Bought two 1600E`s for a total of £55 !!!! imagine what they would be worth now .......Looked like the £35 one was a MK 2 Cortina series 1, and the £20 one was a MK 2 Cortina series 2 . 👍
Thanks for posting this , I did the same thing around 1980 , paid £ 150.00 for a wreckmy dad said what the ***k have you brought there. after about a years work on and off I ended up with a nice looking car , now after 36 years I have just acquired another one although this time its cost me £ 4000.00. fun is not cheap any more.
Nice looking car. It's too bad you didn't keep it. It would've made an awesome collector car. Unfortunately people don't usually think about things like that when they first buy a car like this.
Shaun Hayes I'm afraid I've never owned a Ford Cortina of any generation. That being said, my favourites have always been the Mk. II and the Mk. IV. :)
I wonder what you did do to it for it to only do 10-20mpg? I had a 1968 Mk2 1600GT, LED 666F, mechanically the same car and fuel consumption never got anywhere near as high as your claimed figures.
my car was a 1600 E, different carbs "bigger" , larger inlet valves and larger exhaust Valves, high compression head, four into two exhaust, Race tuned, the GT was a Grand Tourer, for touring, the 1600 E was for Racing, hope this helps you , Cheers Shiney

Wish I still had the Mk2 now,lol
This is a 1968 Series 1, not a Mk2. The Series 1 1600e was followed by the Series 2, and not a Mk2!

Cheers for that, Carret

Jason Carpp I would have loved to keep this car, but it only did 20mpg, and I was sick of the old bill stopping me.
cheers shaun "Carret"
Shaun Hayes That can be a problem.
