Love AC/DC!! You are right about the lyrics to this song. After the band lost their lead singer Bon Scott to alcohol this song was their return to music with new lead singer Brian Johnson. By saying we're "back in black" basically meant "we are back but still in mourning". So good. Their song Shook Me All Night Long is prob my favorite of theirs, but they have tons of great songs. The song was the title cut to the LP dedicated to the recently deceased lead singer who was remarkably charismatic and an ex con. They'd just had their first massive selling LP and he died. He was a legendary bad boy. He'd perform in drag doe effect in the early 70'sm before glam. He knew the "right door to escape through and the right cop to punch" for the band to get away from any situation apparently. Some say he's done time for armed robbery before he joined the band. BonScott was a legend and there is a statue of him in his home country of Scotland.
"He is going up or down an octave every other second while maintaining his rasp" Dude thanks for putting into words what was only in my head for 30 years. The whole song is just nasty af but especially that guitar outro is nasty. Angus just killin it as usual. This song is legit my vote for the best rock song ever, period, end of story #1

Brian Johnson, the new lead singer, once mentioned that when he was writing lyrics for the song, he was told, "It can't be morbid - it has to be for Bon and it has to be a celebration." The album was also a showcase of both their new lead vocalist, and the new direction the band would be taking; AC/DC's "rebirth," if you will.

That "instrumentation " is Angus Young.
The rasp is semi-natural in that Brian smoked cigarettes for a lot of years (he may still, I don’t know) but everything else was all him.
I think you'd really like the AC/DC song "You Shook Me All Night Long," which is probably their most commercial mainstream hit.
