- As always, it's simple except for when it isn't.
Also, for anyone who skips the end: I'll be gone for the rest of the week, so I'm making a Q&A video next week on anything that gets asked in the comments here. If you have any questions (doesn't have to be about this banzuke, or banzukes at all, or even sumo), leave them and I'll put them in that video. If there's something you want to know, someone else probably wants to know as well, so you'll help more than just yourself.

Yeah. The math on screen kinda sucks. Previous way was waaaaay better. Soorrry.
I like seeing you manually move rikishi around like you do in the instant banzuke
Sorry to add to the pile, but my eyes and brain much prefer the usual simplistic style as it's already complicated enough to follow as is.
Thanks for all you do though :)
Edit: It was much easier to follow on a wide screen tv, and actually quite enjoyable, but on mobile, I couldn't keep up.
Seems there may be a happy middle
The clincher here is predicting where Asanoyama will fall to, you have him super heavily demoted even though they’ve never gone below rank 10, though the sample size is fairly tiny. Also putting asa at 10E make the demotions wayyyyy better rather than over and under demoting everybody.
Also, from my classes, Studies have shown that the best way to compare changes like in positioning on a map or a list is to have them be overlayed on top of each other and flip between them. People are way better at noticing differences if they don’t have to move their eyes across the screen.
Love these videos, was waiting for this release for what felt like ages! My two cents, for me it was easier to follow the previous Instant Banzuke format where you are moving the mouse/rikishi while you are talking about them. Instead of the pictures. Cheers mate.
Love these videos and was waiting on this one, as this will be the first time I participate in GTB. I have to say I don’t care for the new format, however. I’d rather see the old way of doing the math.
Man, this banzuke is going to be craaazy wild
Been waiting for this one, thanks sumo spiffy
I don't understand how the math works, I just like watching the videos
It's fairly easy, once you know the trick. Just take a wrestler's final record from the previous basho, and subtract the two numbers. The result of that basic math is the number of banzuke slots they should go up or down. So, if a rikishi goes 9-6 for their win-loss record in the previous basho, just do this equation: 9 wins minus 6 losses equals a difference of 3. That means they should wind up three ranks higher on the next banzuke "by the math". So if they were a maegashira 7 and went 9-6, then nine minus six is three, and they should be three ranks higher next basho, or in this case, they'd go up three ranks from maegashira 7 to maegashira 4.
Great stuff, I prefered the previous method tho. Too many cuts and shifts for me
Thanks sumo spiffy. Here is a question for you: Assuming we didnt have all these gaps in the joi, shouldn't Daieisho be a Komosubi? Same thing happened last banzuke with Asanoyama going from M1 to K even though he could have ended in S.
Thanks!
Love the unexpected Konosuba
Hey does anyone know where all the vods from the latest bashos went? It looks like NHK completely gutted their sumo playlist, and Don Don's 2nd account got hit too. So I have nowhere to watch recent sumo now :(
Not asking anything for now, just wanted to say: have a nice travel! 🙂
I have no inerest in doing guess the Banzuke myself, too many moving parts, but I am curious how you have been placing?
Here is a comment for the rhythm
Put some respek on Rogas names son!!!
What has he done to earn it?

Some nonsense but overall interesting video.
I like video
Reasons to keep Takerufuji in Makuuchi;
Fastest progression to the top division from lowest division ;
First wrestler in 110 years to win the championship on his debut in top division ;
Never had a losing record when competiting on the dohyo, his only top division competition is 13-2;
Set a new record of 11 wins in first 11 top division bouts beating yokozuna great Taiho ;
Fastest top division winner since debut in sumo;
Winner of three special prizes in a row in his only makuuchi tournament, the first in 24 years.
Reasons to demote Takerufuji to juryo;
Non appearance for the May basho which must be shamed and punished;
tHe mAtHs
Obviously, the sensible maximum punishment for yusho winners would be to negate all the March gains and start the July basho in the same position as the beginning of March (M17e).
Ranking system should be renamed the non attendance shaming system if Takerufuji is in juryo in July as clearly Takerufuji is still one of the top 42 wrestlers despite missing this one tournament.
People say they want to help and protect injured wrestlers but expect them to wrestle limping and crippled to gain 1 or 2 wins to stay in the division.
Or maybe injured wrestlers should accept the demotion because rehabilitation will just happen in exchange of a reduced salary in juryo.
Maybe Takerufuji should miss out in July also and achieve the double rehab in Makushita. Amateur status but he will feel all the better for it. 😅
