Whenever someone turns in front of you, even at a safe distance, you should always apply the brakes a little bit so that you’re not making it look like they’re doing it directly.
The semi driver sees approaching vehicle lights. Has no clue as to distance nor speed. Knowing the length of the trailer, the slow speed needed to make the turn, the semi driver should have waited until no vehicles were approaching from both directions.

Guy in the small truck never even braked, obviously not looking at the road. this could easily have been avoided, I know because this happens to me at least 2-3 times a day.
Why would you think that? The big truck was slow rolling, most people would think the truck was going to stop. If he had been sitting still then pulled out, it would have been obvious. By the time the pickup realized he wasn't stopping, he didn't have a second to respond.

Well did you happen to think most people would have thought the truck was going to stop, since it was a slow roll, it would be impossible to tell. If the big truck had been sitting still then pulled out, it would have been obvious. By the time the truck was in the road, the pickup had less than a second to react. I almost t boned someone in about the same situation, I was expecting them to stop any moment and by the time I realized they weren't stopping, I was within a few feet of hitting them but was able to swerve in time.

Defensive driving is more important than your right of way. You have to drive at a speed that you have full control of your vehicle and when you're speeding you have to know how long you're going to be able to make a full stop.
Speed limit on 183rd is 40 mph. The semi driver misjudged the speed of the pickup truck and pulled out. The pickup was estimated to be traveling 55 mph and never made an attempt to brake.
Of course, with the big truck slow rolling, he was expecting it to stop at any moment. It could happen to you. Pay attention to all the vehicles slow rolling towards a stop sign when you are approaching.
That Publix truck made a rolling stop while the pick up truck had the right of way. How did he not see those head lights moving that fast towards him??

I really don't think this is the truck driver's fault. This is one of those situations where anyone at that stop sign looks left, looks right and again and you perceive that either nothing is coming or what's coming is far. But the pick up driver's speed is soo fast that it covers a lot of ground and or gives a false perception to the truck driver. The pickup truck driver should not have been driving that fast in the night, the rain and through a commercial sector of town. It's a death wish. Please don't blame the truck driver even if he rolled through the stop sign.
If you have a stop sign and you pulling out results in an accident, you have some level of culpability. The standard is stop and yield to cross traffic. Don’t pull out until you *know* it’s safe. It isn’t 100% the fault of the truck driver but you don’t pull out unless you know it is safe to do so. Apparently, it wasn’t.
@@richards758 He rolled through the stop sign, so he DEFINITELY has fault here. Had he come to a complete stop, he probably could've seen the pickup was approaching at high speed.
Let's get all the facts straight since the news stations don't give you facts anymore they give you their opinions and state them like they are facts because they're all idiots! First fact-the semi truck driver never stopped at the stop sign and crossed an intersection without having the right of way. Second fact- The news reporter says the pickup truck was driving at a high rate of speed. Not mentioned is the speed limit on the road which is 40mph , since the camera is fixed and we can accurately measure the distances on the screen we can with a 99.99999999% accuracy tell you that the driver was doing 39.87643 mph
Regardless of speed, lack of attention or any other blame we want to place on the pickup truck, it looks like the 18 wheeler drove out of a yield or stop sign into the path of the pickup. If so the driver of the 18 wheeler has a case to answer.
This is the Publix truck drivers fault. The pickup truck had the right of way not the trucker. Go to the intersection of NW Miami CT and N 183rd street and youll see that.
Looks to me, buddy was trying to get past that light and kept the speed when he needed to slow down. Whichever way he lost his precious life. But it wasn't the front of the Publix truck he hit. It was the trailer, so he could have seen the middle of the truck before impact if he wasn't speeding. It's likely the truck driver was looking in the other direction towards the bus depot to make sure he was clear on that side before continuing. Trucks are like trains. It's not easy to stop that's why both have to be respected when going against a normal vehicle. 😢
This is the best comment! I've been in situation when my "vision" of a truck was compromised due to the back portion. In addition, your view concerning the driver speeding past the light is a reasonable explanation for this tragedy.

Seems like both parties have some blame. The truck driver failed to yield the right of way to the pickup. He failed to ensure he could pull out safely. The pickup truck was traveling at an unsafe speed and failed to stop.
why are they blaming the pickup truck driver?the publix truck driver is at fault he didnt stop .plus those publix drivers cut vehicles all the time that was bound to happen
From what I understand, Publix doesn't hire experienced drivers. They promote from within, and employees have to start out in the warehouse 1st. Correct me if I'm wrong. This is only what iv been told, so I don't know if it's true or not.
Was that a three way stop? There is a stop sign right infront of the camera. If it is a three way stop the pickup truck driver blew through the stop sign.
⚠️NOT FOR WEAK READERS ⚠️ The truck driver failed to make a full stop at the stop sign and, upon noticing the approaching pickup truck, accelerated with the apparent intent of forcing the pickup truck to yield. This reckless decision not to stop as required directly led to the accident, as the truck driver’s actions obstructed the right of way. The failure to stop at the designated stop sign set off a chain of events that ultimately resulted in the collision.
I'm not sure how the tractor trailer driver didn't see that pick up truck coming, the video shows the pick up trucks headlights were on INCLUDING one of those LED light bars so the tractor trailer driver should have easily seen that pick up coming and waited.
The driver in the Publix truck is 100% at fault. One, he did not make a complete stop, two, the driver in the pickup truck has the straight away right away, three, the driver in the pickup truck was by NO MEANS traveling at an excessive speed, and even IF he was going over the speed limit, it is the truck drivers responsibility to judge if he has time or not to make a safe turn into oncoming traffic, and he absolutely did NOT, I wouldn’t even have attempted that turn in my Subaru Legacy, let alone an 18 wheeler, truck driver is 100% at fault and unfortunately was responsible for the death of an innocent life that night…

The full video that is not accesible to the public shows the semi did a full stop when another car crossed that same road. At that point the pickup was not even in sight cause it was a block away travelling 79 mph.

Defensive driving is more important than your right of way. You have to drive at a speed that you have full control of your vehicle and when you're speeding you have to know how long you're going to be able to make a full stop.

IMO, this is the Publix truck drivers fault. This is where the Publix distibution whse is located. Hundreds of Publix trucks turn left onto MG Drive every day here. There is no visible obstructions when looking west (left) on M.G. Drive while turning west (left) at NW Miami Court. Regardless of whether the guy in the pick-up was speeding, the Publix driver pulled out when the PU driver had the ROW. This wreck will cost Publix $$$. It will be settled out of court. Publix driver should've immediately been tested for drugs and/or alcohol too.
@matthewgaines10 re-read my comment
Doesn’t change the fact that he pick up truck did not slow down.
Seems like no one was paying attention. Did the semi not see the headlights??? It’s why I don’t like driving in the middle of the night, there ain’t no one in the road and you’ll still somehow meet toe to toe with an idiot.

the stop sign in fron of the camera is for the parking lot. it's a 3 lane road, pickup had no stop sign

Perfectly explained.
sometime you can be right and also be dead. The laws of physics don't care about who is in the right...just who is heavier. In this case, the 18 wheeler.
Uh, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that paying attention to what's in front of you and not crashing into objects is also a responsibility of all drivers. Yes the Publix truck made a mistake, but the gray truck was clearly not paying attention.
The full video that is not accesible to the public shows the semi did a full stop when another car crossed that same road. At that point the pickup was not even in sight cause it was a block away travelling 79 mph.
How did this "driver" not see that pickup coming ??
At that time of the morning , and with all the lights , he damn sure wasn't paying attention.
Speeding isn't worth losing your head over.

@@wyzemann Watch the whole video carefully the truckdriver had a stop sign he is not only required by state law to stop at the stop sign he is required by law to check to make sure it's safe before perceding thru the interection at the stop sign the pick up driver in this video has the right of way.
@@wyzemann This is not an intersection, the Publix truck driver was exiting a parking lot had to make a complete stop and yield the right-of-way to approaching vehicles on the main road including the pickup truck.
@@mikeall2699 The truck did not exit the warehouse parking lot.
The exact location of that particular intersection is between the Publix warehouse and the old Tootsie’s “joint.” I’ve been down NW Miami ct numerous times to purchase from the Flowers bakery at the end of the street🫡.
No matter how fast the truck was going the Semi truck did not fully stop, 100% he will lose his job
Rest up Uncle Chris
Damn I’m sorry for your loss :/
With someone having absolutely ZERO reaction to a tractor trailer crossing the roadway, you have to wonder if this man was suffering a medical emergency. I mean he was driving at a high rate of speed but had ZERO reaction like he didn't even see the trailer as he made his approach. I mean maybe he was DUI of something possibly. But I can't imagine ANYBODY AWAKE who wouldn't at the very least try to slow down before impact.
If that Pickup truck driver wasn't speeding he would of had time to slow down. Looks like the Big rig driver stopped and looked both ways. Although he didn't stop completely doesn't mean it was his fault. Everyone on the Road has a duty to try to prevent an accident. It's called reasonable Responsibility!! In this situation that person in the pickup truck Definitely Did not try to stop and was Speeding. 🙄🙄
Truck drivers fault regardless of the pickup speeding down the road. That truck driver never completely stopped but rolled through. This is 100% on the Commercial Truck driver like it or not. You could see the lights coming down the road from that camera. Unfortunately the pickup loosing his life for FAFO but the family will make bank suing Publix.
@@DogManDan You have Lost your right to Not stop Completely at a stop sign. If you ever do it again you are a Hypocrite 🤣
Big rig is at fault. Didn't look and wait
sir,do have a radar unit??and when was it last calibrated,??rest my case..😅
@Donaldwewon You need better sense of speed. Or at least just pay attention to what they said. Lol
The comments section has deemed it to be the truck drivers fault combined with elements of the pick up drivers actions. Glad its now been settled.
Pick up truck has the right away. Publix has a stop sign simple
The semi truck was moving slow. It made it halfway across the intersection. The pick up was recklessly speeding and distracted to not notice a big long white rectangle in front of him.
The truck driver won't be charged since speeding was a factor. End up being a lawsuit for the company. Truck driver should have made a complete stop, but he did not fly out in the intersection either. There was a reasonable amount of time for the pickup truck to be able to stop.
Doesn't excuse the fact he was distracted and speeding
@@jamesm568Had the truck stopped completely at the stop sign and then yielded to oncoming traffic none of it would’ve happened. What’s he in such a rush for that he can’t come to a complete stop in a commercial vehicle. That’s who the road laws were made for.
@@tcyres We don't know if that would have made a difference or not. A rolling stop is when a driver slows down but doesn't come to a complete stop at a stop sign, while running a stop sign is when a driver fails to slow down or stop at all. Law treats each instance different. Like I said no charges more that likely will not even happen towards the truck driver If excessive speed was a factor.
Imagine being the driver of the car right behind the truck and seeing everything a from a few feet away.
The good thing is, that pickup driver won't be trying that again.
The idiot in the pickup wasn't looking. However, that doesn't remove the fault of the semi driver for pulling out in front of him. This is getting more and more common. That one party makes no attempt to avoid a crash when the other party is at fault. I'm not talking about insurance fraud. Publix should be able to obtain the cell phone records of the deceased. if the driver of the pickup was determined to be using the device, I think their claim against Publix insurance should be thrown out.
It's a 3way stop how yall gonna sit here and blame the truck driver know your facts before you start running your mouth... The reporter knows what's she's talking about... It's the person driving to fast probably under the influence so that's why he blood is scattered all over the trailer and his roof is missing.. Be mad at me all you want but I'm behind the Truck driver 100000%
You, my friend, are a moron. There is not a 3-way stop here.
I hate to say this because I'm a commercial driver myself...but looks like that rig didn't make a complete stop...did a rolling stop...that's probably gonna cost him...And it looks like the pickup driver was speeding...When you have two people not doing exactly what they should be doing accidents happen. Of coarse neither thought it would happen..but that's why you always need to do the correct thing because someone else may not be doing the correct thing. Had the semi driver came to a complete stop and counted to 3 as most of us know to do...he would've still been stopped when the speeding truck came through..and if the pickup was doing the speed limit, he would've had time to avoid the semi most likely. Just unfortunate
This is your typical hi speed F-series truck drivers that drive reckless everywhere in South Florida! Thanks a lot Luis Fonsi.
If you put this intersection on google maps you can pinpoint the distance the pickup traveled and the time for said distance by comparing scenery.
The pickup drove about 75 meters in 4 seconds corresponding to about 40 miles an hour. The road has 40 MPH signage. The pickup was not speeding.
However if you look at the intersection on street view you can see the semi ran a stop sign and failed to yield to the pickup.
The semi driver was 100% at fault and only he was at fault and caused this death.
You can also see how the pickup truck did t even finch, no braking, no quick turn, no reaction at all. Yeah, the truck driver is probably at fault, but it
Looks like he was distracted, which didn’t even allow him a fighting chance to live
Both are to blame that truck driver saw him coming and still threw that big semi into the middle of the road. The pickup had the right of way, with that said the pickup still should've stopped and not crashed into the semi, obviously. But that truck driver needs to be charged cuz he's just as guilty as the pickup driver
