He's sensible. That's what I like about Indian armed forces chief. They never make stupid statements against any country by naming them.
A true gentleman what an Indian soilder should be.

The Marut served on in the IAF through the 1970s. The IAF developed two Air Staff Requirements namely the Deep Strike Penetration Aircraft (DPSA) and the shorter range Tactical Attack & Strike Aircraft (TASA). The IAF was not interested in waiting for HALor DRDO to develop the Marut further to meet either of these requirements although with the right effort and sans the bureaucracy the TASA requirement could have been met by a Marut powered by the RollsRoyce Adour that powered the Sepecat Jaguar. The IAF went on to select two very fine aircraft to meet these requirements - the Sepecat Jaguar for the DPSA and the Mig-23BN followed by the Mig-27M for the TASA. Unlike the Indian Navy and the Chinese Air Force who both supported their home industry with orders for step by step improvements the IAF chose not to do this.

IAF which took deliveries of 150 + HAL developed HF-24Marut fighter jet started retiring them by early 80’s while HAL wanted to follow up with further development of elegant looking fighters like HF-73, HF-24-M.53 and evenprooposed single engined HF-25 all of which were shelved due to lack of interest from Indian Air force which was more interested in acquiring fighter jets from abroad and instead opted for Jaguar and Mig-23 over proposed successive Marut program .The Early demise of HF-24 Marut fighter jet without immediate successive projects meant that it took India nearly 30 years to initiate LCA Program and also needed to invest inadequate resources in terms of manpower and infrastructure for the program to lift off.on the other hand, Mazagon Docks and Indian Navy followed up with building four more Leander class of frigates while Directorate of Naval design used re-designed hull and add upgraded weapons and sensorswhich later allowed India to produce three different classes of warships. While Navy heavily relied on the development of Indigenous Warships to build up its inventory of warships, Airforce instead relied on the import of cheap Fighter jets from abroad overlooking Indigenous options.Today we have reached stage that even when India which is emerging Economical powerhouse at the world stage, is still acquiring fighter jets from abroad to meet Indian Air forces requirements which is becoming a costly affair while Navy which carefully matured its Directorate of Naval design and nurtured Indian Shipyards with repeated orders of frigates, destroyers, support ships and Submarines that now Navy is keen to take up more indigenous projects like development of Nuclear Attack submarine and Nuclear Aircraft carrier which could put Indian Navy into group of Elite Naval power in the world .

Great person. However unlike US India doesn't have air artillery divisions for mountain operation. Inducting new capabilities and maintaining war assymetry is necessary.🙏

With all due respect, the marshall is making a donkey of us when he says Rafale is MWF and Su-30 is heavy weight fighter. In reality, both below to the same twin engine class - Rafale payload is ~8 tons while Su-30 is ~9 tons. There are making this artificial distinction to justify buying more Rafales and to avoid the reality that Su-30 is an obsolete aircraft with very poor BVR combat capability(Hence Mirage-2000 was used in Balakot and hence Russia with their Su-30/27/35 has not been able to penetrate Ukrainian Air Defense).

It should start making it..We are Still third world country and we still have large number of poor and un-emplyed people..We need to save money at every oppurtunity we get..Navy must be commended for its approach to reach indeginisation...

Airforce cannot make aircraft, it's not permitted. It's not capable either, no airforce in the world makes aircraft.

Post Pulwama our deterrent power was evaluated by enemy forces. We are not upto the mark was the drawn conclusion mostly due to primitive mindset of our government and lagging behind capabilities improvement.
