I found this point interesting of releasing sanctions when the war will end and a liberal sort of puppet might be 'installed' within Russia. Of course it's highly speculative, but I think it's also highly probable and I felt like it was a great point, which could come down to this: how much will truth and responsibility be worth in a future world? Because you better believe some are going to want to bring trade back immediately, and pretend nothing ever happened. I believe we mustn't allow that, not before responsibility by the political class and elites within Russia, such as the oligarchs and all-powerful notorious Siloviki will have taken full and sustainable responsibility for what is happpening now, and there will be measurable sustainable changes within Russian politics instead of some 'puppet' while only common people would pay for the sins and crimes of the elite. I strongly believe in the future, and maybe already now we, by which I mean western and global watchdogs, should really pay attention to what's happening with regards to these dynamics.
I just love konstantin's live streams of his channel of youtube " Inside Russia" and his views about the war and the political issues in Russia. Very interesting. Congrats for this excelent guest !
Unfortunately, his content is extremely biased and doesn't show both sides of the coin. He's just a part of the typical narrative "Russia = Mordor = North Korea"
As bad as it might be for Russia it is far worse for Ukraine, even with all the support and involvement from USA and it's vassal states. Just considering the sanction war on Russia, any other large country would be destroyed by it. Not to mention all the money, weapons and spy satellite/drone intelligence given to Ukraine to defeat Russia. Just think of all the countries that participate in sanction war, and give support to Ukraine are at war with Russia. I think they are doing far better than many in USA/UK/NATO expected. August 2023 Saudi Arabia hosted Ukraine peace talks, the plan was that Russia by that time would be defeated and would come to Saudi Arabia begging to stop the war. Russia didn't go to Saudi Arabia.
Russia will have to pay compensation for all the distress and damage they've wrecked upon Ukraine. So when the war finally ends it's echoes are not over.
And how did it happen? As the excellent YT defense economics channel "Perun" explains, 'vranya' is the RuZZian system of lying/exaggerating/BS'ing as a way of life. Remember the mindset of, "We pretend to work and they pretend to pay us"? Well, Vranya means, "We lie to them about our work, and they know we're lying but don't object because they're lying to their own superiors." Putler is at the top of this pyramid. He thinks RuZZia will win, based on what's reported to him. Reminds me of Hilter 1.0, the original, in his Reichsbunker, as portrayed in the movie "Downfall".
Thanks for this. And he did not even ponder what sort of reckoning there will be, after the war, for the many who died in what might end up as a fiasco. (And wait until people realize how unequal the sacrifices have been among ethnic groups.) And who shoulders the cost of care for the wounded?
To all the Pro-Russian supporters in this chat, I have one question. If President Putin is so great and Russia the best, why is it that every country that was ever in the past and under its yoke now, either moving away as fast as they can to join the EU and NATO, or done so already? If Putin and Russia is so great wouldn't all those countries be clambering to JOIN Russia? Think about that for a while! 😉
Finland has closed its borders with Russia because of asylum seekers from central Asia and middle east. Questions are: 1) Why doesn't Russia grant these people asylum? It would help with their labor shortage. 2) Why do the asylum seekers want to go to a NATO country instead of staying in Russia?
Because their leaders are corrupt and after some time in politics persuaded to become member of kabal, a agroup of corrupt world elites to run the world based on law of mutual profit and in league with each other, countries, nationsot societies and people of their own country have remain no issue to them in this high global kabal political game. Russia is 14billion dollars in defecit compared to 106 billion dollars in credit in 2021. The economy is a war economy and expenditure is 35% up because of military needs. Oil production is down and China and India pay using yuan and rupees. The interest rate has increased. At least Russia should be ok for curry powder and noodles 😊
> Oh, very droll. But the bottom line is that it will be hard to force Russia to do what Putin is not willing to do when Russia produces more food and energy than it can eat and consume. So far, that strategy has not worked. Perhaps that will change..... or perhaps not..
Most countries would be delighted to have such a trivial deficit. These are military expenditures Russia can easily afford. Unfortunately, Russia has proven to be a lot more resilient to sanctions than expected. It's hard to destroy an economy that produces a lot more food and energy than it's people can consume. Indeed, Russia resembles the economy of the United States during WWII.
@@todd-617 Unfortunately, Russia is proving to be resilient and resourceful in the face of the sanctions war. Cuba has been living with American sanctions for sixty years.
Russia (Putin and Kremlin) needs to decide what is more important to Russia. Is the invasion, occupation and annexation of the tiny, tiny Ukraine oblasts of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporitzia, Kherson and Crimea worth losing ALL of Russia for? If Russia continues on the current course their geopolital status will be extinguished, their military standing completely destroyed and their economy setback 40 years to the point of bankruptcy, from the sanctions most of the world have and continue to apply. And that's before you consider the internal strife, coups and disappearance of high ranking generals and China's distancing from Moscow. Is the break up of Russia worth Putins madness in Ukraine ? 🤔 ------------- Putin has created internal conflict in Russia, isolated Russia behind a new wall (NATOs fence), halved it's economic capability, crippled it's manufacturing capability, increased fear, surpressed all freedoms, especially freedom of speach, made opponents disappear, or be imprisoned for life for no reason, increased powers of the FSB, increased corruption and kept the population brain washed and subdued. So hasn't Putin already returned Russia to it's previous Soviet state? 🤔
Ukraine has always been the key. They have lots of resources and smart people. Once it falls or some peace deal starts where they give up the richest areas. Putin will rebuild everything.
@@perkunast9680 With what? Russia is running out of money, that's evident from the Russian Mariupol rebuild, that was just a few show apartments, with rest in ruins. Russia can't give 85% of its own citizens electricity, gas and a flushing inside toilet!
@@perkunast9680- exactly! It’s of no coincidence that 80% of Ukraines massive, untapped natural resources, resides in the areas Putin is trying to steal! This would be a massive coup for Russia
@perkunasti - Ukraine is not theirs to take. Ukraine belongs to Ukrainians. Russia has an overabundance of natural resources - but they must be properly managed. The Russian government has mismanaged extraction, processing, refinement, and re-selling, so regular Russians are not benefitting from their own natural recources! You gotta fix your own house first, otherwise, you bring nothing to the table. Why would Ukrainians want to be ruled by such irresponsible government management? Ukraine is beloved by Europe, the United States, and the enitre free world. We see their potential and want to invest in their future - especially Ukraine's vibrant IT sector. You cannot rule those who demand to rule themselves! (And that goes for Russians, too, should they accept responsibility for self-rule. It's hard. It's messy. But democracy is always worthwhile.)
Indeed. To the Covid death add the 300k deaths (and god knows how many injured so badly they'll be a financial burden for decades) and I think we can see how serious is the situation in Russia.
True, but relatively few of those will have been of men of military age. Covid probably didn’t have much effect on Russia’s manpower generation capacities.
@@mebsreaI wonder how much Long Covid, particularly Covid Brain Fog and rapid exhaustion, has affected decision making. I have seen otherwise healthy under-50s suffer from it.
Excellent listen. I also think Russia will eventually throw putin’s dumb ass under the bus and want to reintegrate back into the global community. Thank you both for the great listen.
Given the top down gangsterism of Putin’s regime it’s inevitable he will be expired early, and it’s not unique to what he’s created, just a more mafioso version of what Russia has been in previous incarnations.
That's th spirit, unfortunately mostly a western hope. Did italians hoped the same for Mussolini or Spaniards for Franco, or even Germans for Hitler (or Chinese for Mao) at the height of their reigns? There's a reason some (majority) part of today's Russians and even foreign rashists are labelled 'zombies'. It's a desease, whithout a cure for now, unfortunately. Not a doomer, just to disspel unfounded hopes, for now.
> Well, perhaps. Or perhaps not. The put down of the Wagner Group rebellion and the death of that leader does not promise much. Russia produces more food than it can eat and more energy than it can consume. That makes it highly resistant to the economic warfare the west has been waging. Meanwhile, Ukraine appears to be fighting to the last Ukrainian. Unfortunately, I don't see Russia capitulating to the West any time soon.
In Canada we used to jokingly say “I just signed my life away” when we got a bank loan. I never imagined in a country like Russia it would literally be true. Such a horror can only come from the mind of a madman.
Its literaly not true. Russia has one of the highest home ownership rates in the world. It doesnt matter if its gonna be house, or an apartment in a commie block or even an old dacha, a russian always has a roof over their head.
Perhaps the older generation think the younger generation have had it too easy. They have lived through hard times and don't care if the younger generation has to suffer.
Thank you Konstantin for your valuable insight into Russia and (for me anyway) unfathomable Russian mindset. I have always been skeptical of those who say the Russian economy has bounced back. This just seemed to be completely impossible given the circumstances. I also wondered why Putin has not announced his re-election so the next few weeks will be interesting. I look forward to your next update. Go well, Slava Ukraine.
But Putin did announce his plans to run in the next election.... With an 80+% approval rating it would be hard not too. When the unhappy Russians left the country and the EU sanctions reduced much of the Oligarch's wealth and they too moved to US/UK/EU, Putin's popularity soared. With the EU sanctions, Putin has discovered the majority of world countries think of him as a world statesman. With their help of increased trade, Russia is running its factories around the clock. Their grocery stores are fully stocked. They still have a cash society, with limited credit use, and little debt. I have read that Russian's have been disappointed they can no longer purchase German and Italian vehicles. According to US articles, Xi is planning on supplying reduced cost or free EV luxury cars from China to Russians. I didn't think EV was the best in cold weather but China is making huge technological progress.... We will see!

It is very true that the oil field production capabilities are failing in Russia. I worked in the American transportation industry for decades. You cannot believe the amount of drill casing pipe, sucker rods, jack pumps, pipe pigs, Chickson joints, Christmas tree pipe joints and wire line inspection units were shipped to Russia. Complete shiploads of bags of bentonite and spearzine minerals for drilling mud. All of which I took to the SeaTac shipping ports in Washington state of the USA. All going to the Russian oil well drilling locations. Places like Kamchatka Russia. Participating companies such as Exxon-Moble and Sinclair, Neighbor's, Calfrac, Hess, Occidental, Continental Fraking Chesapeake Energy and ConocoPhillips that had the expertise that built the oil well industry in Russia. Now forcefully nationalized by Russia. Don't ever think anyone will forget how Putin stole all that investment. Good luck trying to get help in the future, Russia. You wasted your chances.
Russia and Putin will have a bad go at it when there is an unfortunate oil well fire. Only the Americans are good at extinguishing oil well fires. Two companies in particular. The Red Adair Company and Boots and Coots Company. Red Adair invented and developed extinguishing oil well fires way back in the 1920's. Mr Boots and Mr Coots were the engineers that worked on what was nessessary. Boots and Coots separated and made their own company. It will take no less than $4-million in US currency or solid gold bars per oil well to entice these companies to go to Russia at this point. No credit, just 100% payment prior to the job. As you wait there will be $7-million in oil burned up every 24 hours. Putin really made a mistake in invading Ukraine. One of the job performed by Red Adair and Boots & Coots was extinguishing the oil well fires in Kuwait in the early 1990's. After Saddam Hussein set off those oil well fires. Putin you better hope that no oil well fire starts. It will cost you dearly. And $4-million is just to start. Depending on circumstances. The final cost per oil well may exceed $20-million per oil well. That's each oil well.

I don’t think Konstantin is right about why western companies are not leaving. You have to black mail alot of executives and board members to make the companies stay if they really wanted to leave. They might be able to do that, but not without someone leaking the circumstances or the fact that they are black mailed. The real reason is the investments made in Russia, the real reason is greed.
A third of the next budget goes to the military industry. Okey, but how much of that money will actually end up in equipment? My guess is that at least a third of that will end up in the wrong pockets. The military in particular knows what's happening in Ukraine, and the upper echelons will be desperate to snatch as much as they can to secure their own survival in the years to come. So what ever number goes into the military industry, there will a lot less built, maybe not in numbers of equipment but in quality. Like thinner armour than on paper etc. It's just a thought 😊
The Oligarchs are already pulling out less cash. However they fear the regime of Putin. The buildup will be sold as necessary and a move for volume over profit that maintains the status quo. It's the lack of industrial investment and loss of human capital that might change minds. I suspect China will supply both. You're not wrong, but everything in Russia moves slowly.
The only question is, can Putin stall and hold longer than the Western nations’ (especially the US) continued willingness to keep supplying Ukraine’s war needs? Also, does Ukraine have enough fighting men left to outlast the Ruskies, despite the large Rusky losses.
In a war stalemate, the country with the larger population has an added advantage. Ukraine is now seeking overseas Ukrainian men to serve in defense of the country. Hope Western resolve to aid Ukraine does not falter. And oli and gas embargoes are being circumvented as mystery brokers are lining up tankers (some not very seaworthy) to buy Russian oil and resell them to willing buying countries. Russia still makes millions of $ from this operation. Iran and N. Korea allies also a big factor in this war.

We should have make a determined effort to expand non-OPEC oil production 2 years ago. We should make a determined effort today to increase Non-OPEC oil production.
U.S. domestic production just set a new high. Sanctions were eased on Venezuela. A large field off Brazil turned out to be a disappointment - but if it hadn't. All shale oil from Canada is making its way to market, Keystone XL or not. It's not like non-OPEC nations have been sitting on their hands. Check out the inflation-adjusted price of gasoline. Gas costs less now than at many times in the past, and if you smooth out the curve, the price of gas has been flat for over 40 years.

The worst stat is the sheer Russian losses, they are recording 800 a day 5000 soldiers a week are being lost week in week out, Ukrianian losses are a lot less, probably half or even less. Unrest is as Konstantin says evident, but not unexpected and you may already see 1000 civil loses per week, even moving higher than military losses. 20 million 2nd WW losses to me suggest Stalin had civil war during the 2nd WW.
During WW2 Stalin’s army pre-razed everything ahead of the advancing forces. History blamed Germany for its scorched earth methods. It was actually Stalin just trashing everything and killing everyone.
@@JohnCSmith-lp1qr Yes, my error 325,000 Russian is a Ukraine estimate which includes wounded, ok fairer figures may come from Aljazeera who use US figures 19th August 2023, approaching 300,000 Russian losses including 120,000 deaths. Unfortunately, what you are describing is Russia being flexible and resourceful in dealing with difficulties and shortages. Get back to me when the reports are that the prisons are empty. You are describing an economy that is under stress, not one that has collapsed. I don't see Putin's power being effectively challenged absent widespread actual collapse. The Wagner rebellion of a year ago shows what happens if you are too eager to throw Putin out. I would be delighted to see Putin replaced. But it's tough to destroy an economy that produces more food and energy than people can eat and consume. That's the problem we face, it seems to me. Still, may happen. If so then the old saw is still true, whaddya know.
Konstantin is the reason I subscribed to your channel. I think our views about Russia are virtually identical although not our emotions. Personally I've hated Russia all of my life. Not Russians, Russia. It has been a direct threat to my life nearly every day of my life since I was born. In 1962 we couldn't work in school because we didn't know if we'd still be alive at the end of the day. We hoped that the end of the USSR in 1991 was the end of the threat but a leopard never changes his spots. Therefore I never had any illusions about it, nor its people. I'm not generalizing but there is a mainstream culture that is in synchrony with the way Putin thinks, sees the world and everything in it. Those who support Russia have the same warped view. My question to Konstantin is how much money does Russia still have left available to it in its national wealth fund, how much of it is in worthless yuan and rupees, and what is its burn rate financing its deficit? Alternatively what is its balance of accounts. Konstantin never acknowledges me on his site even though I've watched every episode since the SMO. Perhaps he doesn't like me because I've made some very disparaging remarks about Europe which I don't think much of either especially having lived there for a couple of years. I know he likes Europe very much but we see it through very different eyes.

I've just spent several hours watching an excellent video of the downfall of Napoleon. The parallels between Putin and Napoleon are stunning. In both cases, the megalomaniac dictator extends his power militarily into foreign lands. The nations united against Napoleon are, however, not presently seen united against Putin. Money is no substitute for armed columns approaching from opposite directions.
That, of course, is the issue. Unfortunately, the Ukraine military war appears to me to be a stalemate --- a war of attrition. That does not bode well for Ukraine. Then there is the sanctions war. Can that be decisive in the face of Putin's intransigence and the resources Russia has? It hasn't been so far. Perhaps that will change, and perhaps not. Those are the two issues from what I can see.
One should not forget the Napoleonic Code. It is different from the evolutions of the English Common Law, but different is neither good nor bad per se. The fantastic agglomerations of inconsistent and archaic laws that it swept away were terrible.
Despite all the similarities, you should not overlook the biggest differences: the Corsican was actually a very competent commander and legislator (as already mentioned above), while probably no more feature films will be made about the bald Kremlin dwarf in 200 years than there are about Gaddafi or Saddam.
There is an inaccuracy in how Konstantin described the price russia gets for oil. First, the sanctions worked until the beginning of July -at which point Urals price climbed steadily until the beginning of October and peaked immediately before Oct 7 Since the Israel-Hamas war began, Urals oil prices have fallen sharply and are back to sanctions level. It could be that russia approved of the war because they expected oil prices to go higher, but reality was the opposite
The head of Russias central bank tried to resign 2 days after the war started but was not allowed to. I personally think she is trying to keep her reputation and professional career. I wonder why she didn't collect her family, leave Russia instead of trying to resign. She is now directly related to the war crimes and war criminals because of her actions.
Yes, Elvira Nebuillina tried to resign TWICE, I believe in protest because Putin was destroying the 10+ years of work she had done building financial security. She stayed and you can imagine the threats that were involved. Probably involving hee family, herself and the number of open windows in Russia.
I also remember that Elvira Sakhipzadovna wanted to leave Russia. But, about the same time, there was another woman with very high rank in the Russian bureaucracy; very sorry that I don't recall her name now. Anyway, when she disagreed with Putin, she was immediately pushed out of a window from a 12 story building. Certainly, Sakhipzadovna knows far too much about the Russian mafia to be allowed to roam free. I'm sure the only way she would be allowed to leave Russia is in a coffin.

I agree with all that’s been said. This war is a total disaster for Russia.
it is a disaster the scale of which they dont understand yet, and when they do it will be devastating to the country.
Не путайтесь в словах, для Украины и европы
Questions are:
1) Why doesn't Russia grant these people asylum? It would help with their labor shortage.
2) Why do the asylum seekers want to go to a NATO country instead of staying in Russia?
Because their leaders are corrupt and after some time in politics persuaded to become member of kabal, a agroup of corrupt world elites to run the world based on law of mutual profit and in league with each other, countries, nationsot societies and people of their own country have remain no issue to them in this high global kabal political game. So far, that strategy has not worked. Perhaps that will change..... or perhaps not..
Most countries would be delighted to have such a trivial deficit.
These are military expenditures Russia can easily afford.

-------------
Putin has created internal conflict in Russia, isolated Russia behind a new wall (NATOs fence), halved it's economic capability, crippled it's manufacturing capability, increased fear, surpressed all freedoms, especially freedom of speach, made opponents disappear, or be imprisoned for life for no reason, increased powers of the FSB, increased corruption and kept the population brain washed and subdued.
So hasn't Putin already returned Russia to it's previous Soviet state? 🤔
Ukraine has always been the key. They have lots of resources and smart people. Once it falls or some peace deal starts where they give up the richest areas. Putin will rebuild everything.
@@perkunast9680
With what?

Doubtful. russians have ZERO expectations for themselves so nothing will change.

Yes, good point. The graft and thievery has not ended!

Actually, only real issue is...Trump. It's Trump who's driving the Republican opposition to appropriatiating more money right now.
But the short term prospects of that seem weak.
And in the meantime, can suffering Ukraine survive?
I am horrified at Germany ‘s proposal for Ukraine to give up. Let’s pray that does not happen!😢 Germany 😢. They are too comfortable and need to suffer so they can experience oppression!! 💙💛🙏🏻
Uh, right now, Germany is promising more new military equipment to Ukraine than any other country.
That was a poorly-sourced article in a single trash tabloid, that no other paper gave the time of day.
Russian law forbids those owing more than 30,000 rubles ($482) from leaving the country until their debts are settled. +7 mil. Russians, were refused travel!😅 in the past.
I've been following both you and Konstantin from near the start of the war, listened to what both of you have said separately, and still agree: these conversations are in themselves important; you do bring something extra out in each other - or am I just restating the old saw `two heads are better than one`? If so then the old saw is still true, whaddya know.
Best insights into the effects of the war within Russia 👍
Why do you not like Europe? and please do not repeat any of Trumps bullshit.
hi K,
always good to see you over here as well.
good channel, Jonathon.
Before I see this. I do like the Information. I saved this for later tonight.
ALways fascinating to listen to Konstantin. Thanks a lot.
The Titanic wasn’t hit by an iceberg. The iceberg was hit by the Titanic.
It was an attack iceberg.
Trivia: If the Titanic had hit the iceberg head-on, it probably wouldn't have sunk, though the front of the ship would have flooded. In trying to avoid it, the ship raked along the side and breached too many compartments to stay afloat.
Hey I’m here now. Johnathan, I commented on Jake’s channel. But I want to repurpose it here. I’m a premier activist for Ukraine on yahoo news I spend every night and half of my morning fighting disinformation. I’m pretty sure I’m #1 with responses and time spent there. I think we need to tighten the support circle and formulate a plan to reach as many people as possible. I can’t post links there, but I do respond to as many trolls as possible. Every article. Thoughts?
It’s tough increasing the audience for this material. One way is to do more collaborations with other TH-camrs- which I’m trying…
I'm sure advocates of Eurostatism might express the same sentiments. And Kaiser Wilhelm and Adolph as well.
Despite all the similarities, you should not overlook the biggest differences: the Corsican was actually a very competent commander and legislator (as already mentioned above), while probably no more feature films will be made about the bald Kremlin dwarf in 200 years than there are about Gaddafi or Saddam.
@@robderich8533 I can see it providing the basis for a Blackadder-esque comedy.
Excellent and insightful commentary.
There is an inaccuracy in how Konstantin described the price russia gets for oil.
First, the sanctions worked until the beginning of July -at which point Urals price climbed steadily until the beginning of October and peaked immediately before Oct 7
Since the Israel-Hamas war began, Urals oil prices have fallen sharply and are back to sanctions level. It could be that russia approved of the war because they expected oil prices to go higher, but reality was the opposite
Has nothing to do with anything. Russia moving oil by 3rd parties has always taken a haircut, and they factored that in
The head of Russias central bank tried to resign 2 days after the war started but was not allowed to.
Excellent analysis
Stunningly level headed explanation of the situation, many thanks
Total bullshit pack of lies.....unreal to thing anyone is dumb enough to believe this crap
Really interesting to hear from someone Russian who has good insights into what might happen in Russia if there is an economic meltdown. Sounds like it could be brutal .
My two most favorite people together in one show! I don't even have to bother clicking to change to another channel - just sit here and be edified! However, regarding oil & gas, one of my other favorite persons is Joe Blogs and he shows, using Russia's own data, that the oil & gas industry in Russia has really been devastated despite the machinations to evade the sanctions - revenues from that sector are down by at least 50%. Slava Ukraini 💙💛
Hello. I left a comment here at roughly 10:40 pm, which has disappeared (now 10:46) I believe it is a comment worth reposting, so I will do it repaste it:

Thank you for your talks
Russian Telegram channels reported the largest plant manufacturing diesel engines for military equipment is on fire in Russia's Chelyabinsk. Later reports clarified that the transformer yard supplying power to the plant suffered a transformer explosion / fire and blacked out the plant.
A tank factory has also gone up in flames.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Don’t you mean a “fireworks” factory ;)
Damn, that smoking problem is really out of control.
Happens in America every year
Thank you, gents
Konstantine is so insightful. Great interview. I pray for peace in Ukraine 🇺🇦 🙏
Really enjoyed this conversation, thanks to you both
Konstantin you look tired, take care of yourself and family, thanks for the continued insights into the economic widescreen picture of Russia.
