Great video. The horn sounds like Nathan K bells K1L and KS1. The Progress Rail GT46 locos for the Australian mainline (not the Pilbara iron ore system line like the loco in your video) also use 2 K bells but are instead KS1 and KS2, similar to some British locos and also 70s - 90s Australian passenger stock.
The main issue with battery powered locomotives is the distance that can be travelled on one full charge compared to a diesel powered equivalent. Also the time it takes to fully charge the batteries. Its fine running up and down a test track with two locomotives as "loading", but let's wait and see how it goes on a huge iron ore train in the Pilabara. It will be a few more years yet before they replace diesel locomotives. Great video, well done.
Not sure how the Aussies are doing it but BNSF was or has them in the middle of 2 diesels were they get a charge off them...doubt they will phase diesel out in a few years, these will only save the company some cash....
Railroads should only order FLX Drives and Joules with T4 units as a lash-up imho. Australia has solar powered trains too. They should take that technology to the Outbacks
Solar powered overhead would have been ideal.. These will work in the west where they power up hill one way and dynamic brake down the other, what is lost is reacharged back into the batteries on the down hill runs.. If they can keep a loco powering to researched and designed perameters for its intended use I'm sure it may have benefits on some railways. Dynamic braking already wastes a massive amount of energy, storing it in batteries isn't the silliest thing I've read.
Nice engineer and a duel horn setup YES, I like em already, NGL this thing looks kinda futureristic in a way with how the battery where the fuel tank once was
BHP #9001 is out and about being tested on the line with #2012 and #6006. Let's see how well this locomotive will hold up in the Pilbara region of Western Australia when it's delivered to BHP
Aren't these loco going crew less or crewed? And just like a model loco it comes with diesel locomotive sounds? So what does the battery locomotive sound like? What type of environment will this loc be working in tropical or desert or coastal? Will it catch fire in a hot environment? All i heard was horns and level crossing bells.
Man that baby’s movin!!! 🎉
Imagine if all the Wabtec test engineers were this friendly
Not only I get to see testing units out BUT a friendly crew too :D

Thanks. They plan on pushing the technology to come as close as they can to a diesel.

@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER Technology is evolving so it will be interesting to see where it goes.
Now this one is awesome right there wow😊

@@anjuarunderwood6869 Thanks!
All 3 of those locomotives look awesome! Nice set of catches!
@@WH_Railfan84 Thanks!
More great footage! What an awesome test set!

Another very interesting video. I might have to see if I can film this locomotive when it comes over here to Australia.
By this time next year all of them should be in operation.
Totally awesome friendly engineer awesome 👌 😊
@@DebbieSuttle-m9v for sure!
@stephankoenig5481 I agree with you
Great content my friend! I’m going to miss the sound of those GE 16 and 12 cylinder engines, I hope no time soon!👍🏾
They're not going anywhere anytime soon. There are plans to make them more efficient too!
@ oh okay, that’s good news, thanks for the info!👍🏾
Is progress rail line still in the locomotive building business?
@@proudfoamer2 Yes they build there locomotives in Muncie Indiana.
Cool crew
It kind of sounds like amtraks P42DC's whem idling and at low Notches.
That was a cool share, nice to catch these being tested! (Dave).
@@StormySkyRailProductions Thanks!
@stephankoenig5481 you're very welcome.
That horn sounds like a via rail😂
Did Wabtec buy the B&P AC6000s just to use for testing, or with plans to lease/sell them again?
Those were from the WNY&P/ Bath and Hammondsport. They were bought outright by Wabtec.
All the BHP AC6000s were scrapped in Australia.
Whoops, I meant WNYP, not B&P. Wrong short line
@@amtrak706They were bought for testing to free up other engineering units.

Presumably Rio will evaluate BE locos in their driverless mining trains
Interesting horn on it what is it
@@DarrenHudson-g2x I believe its a KS1
@stephankoenig5481 wierd nathan horn I like it
The new electric loco
Why it got two horns lol
@@MSRTA_Productions I believe there is a rear horn too.

I’m hoping someone can make a meme of that second horn in the back 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sounded like the diesels were up and running to me.
Yes, that's how they test locomotives
Where is this locomotive going afterwards?
Australia
BHP in Australia.
They need to swap out that shitty K2 horn into one of K5 horns! Anyways, great video

A star driver🫡
They all are good guys there.
The new electric loco…😂
That horn sounds soo weird to my american ears lol.
Presumably the horns are to an Australian spec for the Pilbara mining raiways
It reminds of the train from the game borderlands

@stephankoenig5481 you mean Erie, Pennsylvania?
@@Vicstar_is_vibin Yes sir!
These are piles of trash. Just put a pantograph on it and turn it into a standard electric locomotive
