I just wrote you about the same problem, but I figured mine out. Maybe my answer will help Cindy out. I realized that the pattern I was using needed to be traced, and then placed in the card "frame". I found that out when I went and color filled it and saw that the whole pattern and background became a color. So I went back and did a trace on it and then followed the rest of the steps you said in the video and it worked great. Hope that is the answer for Cindy too.

crmonroe100 Glad you got some use out of it. My videos are really old and for sure not using the latest software updates. Actually, I am still using 2.7 as I like it fine and just don't want to update. Keep making those cards.

      Margaret,
I just got my Portrait, so it came with V 3, but it does not look very different from yours!
These words in a window are my favorite thing to do so far! I want to try putting 2 or 3 words on the same card front...
I am still referring to your video, because I invariably forget the “make compound path” most of the time Smile
Thank you so much for your videos, they are my favorite of anyone else I have found on TH-cam!

You know, the compound path thing was a huge thing for me to "get" when I started working with graphics. It just didn't make sense and then one day it all did made sense. Now I find that understanding it makes so many things easier in the different software for the cutters.

Thank you for this! I love it and, better still, I was able to do it following your instructions! Yay.

Thanks! This helped a lot! I never quite understood the compound path, but now I think I've got it!

When I click on weld the insert goes away. Thought I was following the video step by step but I must be doing something wrong. Any assistance is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you. I've subscribed to your videos in hopes of learning much more.

Sorry I just saw your question on TH-cam about having the ruler/scale around the screens. Go to the grid page and click on "ruler" toward the bottom.

Are you sure that the frame was made into a compound path. You make your frame from two objects...like a square with an oval inside...then choose both and "make compound path." Then type or add your insert, being sure it overlaps the frame you just made, choose the frame and the type and weld. Usually the reason it doesn't work is that your frame has not been turned into a compound path. You end up trying to weld to an outline.

Someone just sent a comment, that I can't find, that this "didn't work for them" and I can only assume the newer versions of Silhouette Studio are different...but it also seems to me that the basic steps should be the same. Remember my videos are three years old and that could make some difference in the way the program processes things.

I want to fill a tshirt with names on the back about 3 rows of names for a family reunion can I do this with my silhouette

First my software version is quite old so I have no clue about how newer versions work. I assume you just want names so you would put them on the page like you want them and cut them out. Just not enough information about how you want it laid out, etc. You would be better finding some recent TH-cam videos for guidance.

I have no idea how to do that. I have never cut anything longer than my 11-1/2" paper. Sorry.
