This was my favorite era for JM. The longer hair, the beard, the extra weight turned him from a good looking guy into an absolutely beautiful man. I know his addictions were getting worse but to me, he never sounded or looked better than this period of time. Over 50 years later & I still say he was the greatest frontman ever. RIP you stunning gorgeous talented poet.
Soft Parade, Morrison Hotel, and LA Woman were hands down there best 3 albums
@@adamcostain612 Their first one is spectacular. The Doors never put out a bad album with JM.
Man, I miss Jim. Such a great writer and singer. Love his poetry. I hate that stupid "27 club" bs. There's plenty of musicians that died at 25, 26, 28.. etc. There's nothing cool or glamorous about dying young. It's sad, it's tragic and it's waste of a life snuffed out before it's time. Jim wasn't finished when he died. He was just getting started imo.
@@user-ee8us7cw2k Agreed. Every Doors album with Jim is great. First two and last two Doors albums are my top 4 Doors albums. Debut, Strange Days, Morrison Hotel and L.A. Woman. Would have to think about what order I'd put them in though. First album would be #1.
They sound very tight, and the announcer at the beginning and the band are more literate and well spoken than anyone on tv today.
So true. Bunch of dumb clowns these days. As deep as a rain puddle. Nothing of substance
The host/interviewer is great. You can tell he's passionate about music and The Doors in particular. Awesome.
@faridthabka1461Yup. People aren’t open minded critical thinkers like they were back then.
He had this aura about him... Can't even pinpoint anything on it. Enigmatic, charismatic, dark, sullen, intriguing, charming, wild, unpredictable.
The entire band was such a tight unit and so powerful.
People try to make him out to be a drunken maniac, but every interview I've heard to do, he is very thoughtful and speaks slowly like he wants to say only meaningful things. I'm angry at him for letting his life get out of hand. He had tremendous smarts that he didn't use. Man, the music and lyrics we could have had for many more years.
He may have been only 27 but he was no dumb kid. I like the music and it’s very unique.
The Doors an American treasure for the world to enjoy…what a band!!!
The Soft Parade is really a masterpiece that nobody noticed. The musical transitions along with the lyrics are epic. I spent way too many hours soaking it up with headphones on, which was really incredible.
Agree 100%--it really is a fantastic piece of music but it's always been overshadowed!!
Love the string arrangements behind all the music on Soft Parade. Most of it came out sounding beautiful. The songs as is still sound great, & Soft Parade woulda been a good record with band as is, but the orchestral stuff just brought out a great side of of the band that I’m glad they explored.
I noticed at first how I heard the whole record! Side by side with Strange days my favourite records!
Jim is the difference between normal and special people
I miss this kind of performance. As live as you can get, raw, plug in and play!!
You cannot petition the Lord with prayer ! Great song
Absolutely fucking amazing!! There's no way to convey what this band means to me.....
You know tell all the people is not a very good song it's the worst of the best band
@@KimberlyBishhI like to think they only dropped it to satisfy the mainstream media
@@zylac4305 this isn’t the first time I’m seeing a comment of someone bad mouthing tell all the people. It’s one of my favorites. It’s one of the main themes of the door’s themselves, freedom! It’s a 3 minute ballad of freedom with Jim leading the way, hence, “follow me down!” Incredible.
This band got me threw hard times i love n cheerish each one of them. The music was amazing and meaningful...
I like the way Jim turns away from the camera when Ray talks about his poetry & lyrics - Just a humble genius of a human being
This was a so powerful and painful show. Jim sang and acted in a wonderful way but he looked like very tired and sad with closed eyes all the time never smiling..Incredible charisma and old man look, he was only 25 years old and two years later he died...
There’s one at 33:03, but his melancholy is really showing through in this, Jim was a cursed with being the most beautiful tortured soul to ever hold a microphone and release himself
He kinda looked like Kris Kristofferson with a beard. Aragorn as well. Regal.
He’s not melancholy at all. He’s projecting the dark, mysterious aspect of where the music comes from with tremendous intensity.
This band was the one that got me through abusive situations during high school. The Soft Parade made more sense than what was happening in my home. Love these guys! Thanks to Jim for inspiration for my singing voice too. One of the greatest frontmen in history!
Ray was such a talented dude. Playing keyboards and the bass part at the same time. Dude can also sing. I've seen him do all 3 at the same time. Impressive and not easy to do at all. RIP Ray Manzarek
Jim Morrison and the Doors' sound defined an epic era of classic rock music. It is deeply intriguing that one so talented could have become so unreasonably self- destructive.
I was thinking about this also.
Self destruction isn't new.
Entry to the 27 club is still alcohol and barbiturates.
I was wondering ,how long do you think Jim would've stayed alive in today's fentanyl environment?
I ask because many older great artists have died since the early 2000's.
This is a great upload from over half a century ago.
Thank you.
Long live The Doors.
It is highly disturbing that the flower power baby boomers of the 60'z openly believed that it was beautiful to die young because an old copse would not be such a good sight to view. Also their mantra of live fast and die young was an unfortunate fad. I believe that old rockers like Mick Jagger, Robert Plant and Eric Clapton of that era who are still around and enjoying their lives and careers even in the twilight of their lives would look back and attest to the fact that it was indeed a crazy and unnecessary believe. I am sure too a Jim Morrison in today's setup would have shunned a self-destructive life as a vehicle to gain notoriety and fame because it is not something that is now celebrated by millennials. @@jimihendrix6969

"See that guy? He is the doors". Jim pointing Ray
Gotta compliment host for the greatest articulation and nievetity in equal measure.
I think thats the best version of the soft parade ive ever heard.
Genius on every level.

If you have any knowledge of where the original masters (or a low generation copy) might be, please contact us through Ray’s Manzarek social media pages. Thank you!

Ray told me in 1988, before this show was released, that they only had a copy of the video. I guess that hasn't changed...
Nobody me jimi better tha ray manzerick but the novel said it if you read it from front to back you woud understand my comments all the doors comments are in there jim was great but his band told it all in the novel even Jim's parents
Were mentioned so I deal from real information so if you need any information contact me I've have lots of accurate stuff
He was a very
Very powerful.entertainer but the novels info is exact
I'd never seen this before, but, wow, that performance of The Soft Parade was A M A Z I N G!
So many thanx to the few intrepid geniuses who invented the amazing motion picture camera, around a hundred and thirty years ago, surely our greatest invention, capturing and preserving the sights and sounds of our reality for everyone to see and hear, like wow.
HE WAS SO AHEAD OF HIS TIME!!!
The soft parade song is so good. Its like a 50s commercial infused with disco and it takes a wicked turn into reality. Cobra on my left, lepard on my right!
Listening to this for the well I can’t remember
It’s just such a perfect performance ❤
I love the doors more than life
In those days we were lucky to get one song played live on t v. Here’s an entire album!
Jim talking about someone with a box making music by himself with the electronics. He predicted dj's back in 1970.
Jim Morrison predijo la música electrónica!!! Wow 😱🤘👌 que gran entrevista 👏.
True art being performed here
I just noticed Ray's keyboard layout.
Original Master.
I read “‘No One Here Gets Out Alive” by Danny Sugerman at 15 and it changed my life.
Great to see these videos and interviews, in your mind it doesn't seem like it was so long ago, but then you realize how old you are and reality sets in and you can't believe so much time has gone by.
This is such an incredible performance. Jim isn't very animated here but the singing and playing is incredible.
Good thing Jim decided to become a musician instead of a cult leader. Great later-era performance here. Jim on top of his game and the band couldn't be tighter.
It’s fucking awesome how he totally explains way past the time he is alive. We all know I don’t need to say anything. Jim Morrison was way ahead of his time. 🤘🏽
Actually, the type of electronic performance he was describing there was already being done by people like Terry Riley and John Cage, but would truly occur as "ambient" only 5-6 years later with Robert Fripp & Brian Eno in 1975.

Great to see them talk.
Thanks you! Really wanted this one to come out.
Can I just say the guy who does the intro is amazing. If he wrote all that himself he must be quite the music lover..
Great intro, from 55 years ago.
I can't wait to hear this performance by The Doors.
"...Heavy rely on tapes - 1 person using machines" - This was 1969 - Jim was ridiculously intelligent; Jeez, just an amazing man

I just love to come back to this
I'd have given just about anything to have an evening where I'd be able to pull up a barstool with Morrison, down a few beers and just talk about life!!
Love there music, Totally Amazing!
Jim Morrison died 53 years ago today, but today I think of his life not death
Richard Goldstein just turned 80. 🎂
Lovely soft voice. Soothing. It’s hard to believe just how wild he was. Strange…
Dang. This is incredible.
So simple and so beautiful ✨ thats it
They really clicked on Backdoor Man. Wow.
This performance was a band in transition, and I love it. Jim already had the Miami trial looming over his shoulders, and this was their first real performance since. I’ve always thought this rare version of the Soft Parade was far better than the studio version and never replicated.
Yeaaaah babe, hit it. That's the best bluesy sound of all time !
😥 amazing 🎶
I will always hate what Oliver Stone did to "The Doors". The band was an awesome mix of jazz and rock and countless other influences. They were tight and obviously very professional in their approach when playing live. Stone made Morrison out to be an annoying and dysfunctional drunk who thought he was channeling the great poets and philosophers. Stone also belittled the other members with how they were portrayed. I blame Manzarek a bit too as he was busy mythologizing Jim and helping stoke a resurgence from which they all profited. Ultimately, they were great musicians who brought something unique together with their oft imitated sound. Also, Jim was a GREAT singer!
'Build Me A Woman' was epic. So bluesy and loose. The Doors were, imo, at their best when belting out the Blues.
So talented 🌹
Archive si précieuse. Si lointaine et si proche. Si lointaine ...
Les Doors représentent un mystère palpable, une forme de trésor éphémère.
Les gars sont au-delà du bon.
Jim est intrigant, fragile, fort, brillant, sombre,
infini.
La sonorité du truc est unique.
Dynamic Densmore, Maverick Morrison, King Krieger and Mysterious Manzarek were the Doors
PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE HOW AWESOME THE DOORS ARE.... ESPECIALLY ALL IN ONLY 5 YEARS......MORE HITS THEN BANDS OUT 30 YEARS....DOORS ARE UNBELIEVABLE....I HAVE THE DOORS TATTOO ON MY NECK 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I'M A REAL FAN...NO STUDIO SONG OR LIVE SONG I DON'T KNOW..... QUEEN..BEATLES.. DOORS 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love the album. Its got some really great songs ..
This is awesome
Ray is so cool that he comes across as cold in the interview. Awesome.
The Doors are perfect - they've withstood the test of time - I hate them sometimes but love the art ALL the time
Hey Jim - I'm sorry you died - the Soft Parade recordings are my favorite except for absolutely live - you guys were a perfect blend making great art
On The Soft Parade VHS from 1991 Wishful sinful, Build me a woman and The Soft Parade are in top video and HiFi audio quality, so they had a better tape in 1990. This low video/audio quality performance of PBS show comes from Soundstage 2000 DVD.
This is fantastic
Blown away!
This is the best footage of the best era of the best band
To think Jim was just 25 years old right here. Quite impressive!
Jim Morrison was a very talented guy. He was mainly a poet who taught himself how to sing and did it quite well.
Amazing🫶😘what a Genius Performance of the doors, and also i was absolutely surprise how Jim was making a Prophecy of how the music today will be , with one men on electonic Synthesizer...The Doors, you give us timeless music until the End, Jimmy you are an Poet, , a Star 🌟 you are hope.thanks a lot that you Help me through the hard years 🙏 forever Love 🦋🔥🤘✌️☮️❤️ Just an example Boris breicha..or Charlotte de Witte
When you were at your best you are the best of all time - true artists - thank you The Soft Parade is as performed here is the best of all time (in my puny opinion)
I'm taurus ♉ into the doors music my favorite band of Los Angeles California.
Music at its peak. ❤
The Moderator is also a big 🌟❣️✌️
This Soft Parade intro verse always reminded me a bit of Turtle Dreams, that Vox definitely has a sound
Amazing is all I can really say…
Jim tu sempre será único ! Amo-te. Tua falta me dói
Yes yor correct he didnt partake in heroin but he new it would do it for him thsts why he said good buy he did it in the tub
I like the doors a lot not trying to put jim down
I woul never but he done him.self I'm I have no respect for any one who throws there life away what shitty waste of tallent but he knew didnt care any.more he bew the heroin woud kill.him thst what he chose .only.if he got help
It's interesting to see Ray Manzarek playing the Vox Continental Organ in a live setting so late in their career. It had proven to not be road worthy and was replaced by the Gibson G-101.
The Lord can take you any time at his convenience Jim
This is their best performance.
Fantastico!!!
Incredibile....
I love his shirt
Jim died in '71 but he didn't miss much - just a luxurious wealthy comfortable life - but who needs it - doesn't matter in the end - nothing we do matters one bit
The good Ole days...
I bought a bootleg vhs of this in 1990. Quality was way less but played it till it died. Loved it. Shamans Blues and Who scared You would have made this better tho. I said it then… I’ll say it now.
@@Momo-zg3ye in their top 5 best songs actually....Who Scared You.
Wasn't one of their songs used in the movie the Shining? A couple moments in the performance sound just like a song I heard and seen in that movie but I do not know what scene, possibly the opening of the movie when they are driving
His voice in 10:05 is so otherworldly
Greatest band ever
Iguales a nadie
Parecidos a ninguno
UNICOS E IRREPETIBLES
THE DOORS CARAJO !!!!🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
Not great band the best band all the time❤
Never knew PBS even had a series like this......clearly in their "pre-woke" heyday. Lizard King......I miss you. Come home. 🥲
Wizards if you will - c'mon they were great artists - The Soft Parade is a triumph - one of there best TV performances
What jim said about an individual, not even singing with his machines was quite prophetic. We have had rap and techno shaping the musical landscape for many decades now so much so it doesn't feel there has bn one I refuse; however to turn out the light
LOL 😆😅 Sold More Copies than my Weekly Reader. I Couldn't wait till Every Week when the Teacher would had them out! Damn that was Funny! 🤣🤣
Morrison hated Robbie Krieger's "Tell all the People".

This was a good day for public television.
NET .... National Educational Television....3 yrs later it became PBS, home to Sesame Street & Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.
Ironically, NET was an outlet Morrison was considering for a broadcast showing of his short & poetic 1969 film HWY, but he never returned from Paris to arrange that.
