President Johnson never met QE2 because he hardly visited Europe during his presidency; concentrating on Asia and Australasia (remember, this was the period of the Vietnam War). He only visited Europe twice (once to attend the funeral of West German Chancellor Adenauer, and once to Italy to meet with President Saragat and Prime Minister Aldo Moro).She would have met Johnson at the funeral of JFK, but she couldn’t travel at the time, being pregnant with Prince Edward.
The Queen's never met LBJ because he was sick and hospitalized with the flu and bronchitis when Winston Churchill died. He "very very much" wanted to lead the U.S. delegation to the funeral (LBJ, De Gaulle, and Kosygin were the only leaders allowed to lead or send delegations of three representatives; their respective countries, the U.S., France, and the Soviet Union were Britain's chief wartime allies) and asked that no final word be made until the doctors could act. But he secured an arrangement from the Queen for a private meeting at Buckingham Palace after the funeral. But when the doctors acted, they barred him from leading the delegation, saying he needed to recover from the hospitalization.
