if you buy a watch thinking only in resale value then you're a merchant, not a collector
We don't know the resale value in five years. People think "Rolex", but remember you are paying nearly DOUBLE MSRP for the damn things. And if you bought a Panda Daytona last year you are down thirty odd percent. If you bought a Sub you are down about $1K or 10 percent. If you bought an Omega Seamaster you are just about breaking even.
When you buy a watch, whether it is a $20 Timex or a $100K AP, it should make you happy. If it makes you happy, anyone else’s opinion shouldn’t matter. But if you put a picture on social media, you open yourself up to possible criticism. Someone, somewhere will not like your watch for whatever reason, no matter what. And unfortunately many don’t abide by the old adage “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” If you are buying watches strictly for getting approval and affirmation from others, you’re going to be disappointed. The one person you need to make happy is YOU.
I never buy watches caring about their resale value. Firstly, I never sell any of my pieces. They're all a part of my watch-collecting journey, and represent where I was at a certain period in my life. Secondly, it's a luxury item that I'm only buying because I have the cash to burn and my passion for watchmaking. I hate thinking of watches as investments because it takes away all the romance. Buy it because you love it, and because you can
...yeah, but do you like the idea of getting shafted after buying a new watch only to walk out of the store and lose 50% of your money? I know I don't.
@VitalyMack point taken. You could always consider buying used if that's the case. However, for myself, I've always bought new watches and I've never sold a single one. Even if it does not get much wrist time anymore. It's still a part of my journey and so I still keep it regardless. Maybe that's a bit of a unique scenario. For that reason, though I couldn't care less about resale value.
@@chriscline6483 My friend, I would love to do business with you any day. I'm glad people like you exist ; ) I would say in my years of sales you constitute about 5% of buyers, but make-up about 30% of the profits. And buyers like yourself are the happiest with their purchases.

If a small watch makes you less masculine perhaps you weren’t that masculine to begin with. A confident man can rock any watch! At least that’s what I keep telling myself! 😂
Spot on small watches say refinement to me and big watches that fall into the category as Gaudy, are just too much, but we have different tastes and it marks our individuality as humans. I have a large wrist and a 39mm to a 43mm . I favour divers hence the 43mm. I am omore cncerned on the lug to lug size and anything more than 48 mm does not sit right.
@@DavidLee-yu7yz Agreed, but you know what they say, "bigger is better." If you have big wrists I can understand larger dials. But to me I feel, "bigger is, 'I want your attention.'" if it looks disproportionate or just too ostentatious. Big and simple could work though.
So true. I wear 36-40mm watches and drove a Mini Cooper during my college years. Several people commented why I wear a womans watch and drive a womans car. One of the things I absolutely love about the watch enthusiast community is the passion. I may or may not agree with your opinions, but I love to hear them. I’m a casual diver and took my Planet Ocean 8500 diving a few years ago just because I could. Wanted to take my new 8900 diving last week when I was in Aruba but the conditions weren’t good for diving so I didn’t go. Still wore it in the pool and ocean though! For me it’s not about using it as a dive tool, it’s just fun.

Worst attitude for me is saying that quartz is rubbish and only automatic watches are 'proper' watches. I have both movement types and I like all of my watches equally irrespective of quartz or automatic.
True but comparing quartz watches shortens the conversation than when one is talking about calibres and hairsprings and .............apologies, just napped off for a jiffy..
Just buy what you like (and can comfortably afford), and wear it for your own enjoyment. It’s really a very simple thing to do and needn’t be any more complicated than that. If you want to enter into a discussion with other human beings about your choices - or theirs - be prepared for disagreement and remember that we still (for now.) live in a world where differences of opinion are permissible. Life is more happily lived when you let go of being right.
The watch enthusiasts I know all seem to have a good sense of humour about our affliction. I'll pop in a co-worker watch guy's office and say, "I've got a problem." He laughs and immediately asks me what watch I purchased. It's funny to recognize things about myself from this video. Thanks!
Snobs - both regular and reverse variety - are everywhere, in every hobby and profession. They quickly reveal themselves. The only people I have heard say “timepiece” are behind a counter selling watches. I have everything from an F-91W to a Rolex in my collection, but the most valuable watch i own is the one my daughter made as part of a build-a-watch event at the jewelry store she works at - surprised me with it on Father’s Day this year.
Very cool video Jenni! I like how you don't take this hobby too seriously and just enjoy it. Do you have any Japanese watches other than Seiko? I think Citizen and Orient do some cool looking watches.
The Tag Link watch has a beautiful bracelet, paired with an ETA workshorse it makes a great watch that will last. It's not a luxury watch, but it's a nice daily watch.
I only buy watches that hold a significant part of their value. You can’t really expect a second hand item to be worth as much as the same one new but I don’t want it to be anywhere near worthless. Who makes fun of Breitling ? I want their names.
LOVED this video!!! I love any video you do that showcases your personality. I can do with less “look at me” watch/steering wheel photos, by the way. 😊

Reverse snobbery is much more prevalent on watch forums than good old snobbery. I have seen very few owners of expensive watches deriding owners of affordable, but plenty going the other way… “Rolex/Omega fanboys” comments are rife. Is this jealousy? Like the guys that run a coin down the side of a Porsche because they haven’t got one? As watch enthusiasts we should let others wear what they choose, and do the same ourselves.

I’m the guy who made the joke on the Drinking Coffee & Talking Watches thread the other day. It was indeed a nod to our fellow member who always post the same caption with his tacky Rolex pictures. It was only a joke and I’m glad some people understood the nod. I feel sorry for Jenni who thought I was being serious (at least I made the thumbnail of her video haha).
Hilarious how she defends bagging on Tag and Breitling then the very next question gets worked up over someone bagging on Rolex. I don't know if this was intentional, but it illustrated the exact point she made about subjectivity. Made me smile about how ridiculous we all are with this stuff.
She did neither. Firstly, Tag can never be compared to Rolex. They’re miles apart in nearly all criteria. Secondly, there’s this snobbery among so called “enthusiasts” on social media that get irritated by anyone praising Rolex and the points they make are plain dumb. Jenni wasn’t displaying double standards towards different watch brands but she might’ve appeared to “get worked up over someone bagging on Rolex” because of the latest trend to shit talk Rolex and downplay anything they do just to look cool and different.

What a great topic! Regarding "watchpiece," it's perfectly fine; there aren't a lot of synonyms for "watch," so it's bound to be used when discussing watches on literal watch fan forums and pages. Sort of like using "sofa" instead of "couch" etc.
When I took my scuba course dive computers weren't common, so I learned to dive relying on a normal watch. I admit that years later I've still never gone on a dive using a digital computer. I'm definitely that one out of a thousand people who'll wear _a_ watch diving, but I have one or two dedicated to that.
Included my collection is my Grandfather's 1929 Bulova President. Resale value is not a huge consideration, but there are lots of Microbrands that I consider that the same amount spent on a recognized marque would be completely recoverable... so yes, the brand is a consideration.
Hi Jenni. Fun video. Considering resale value in the collecting equation is OK but shouldn't overshadow the less tangible factors of loving a watch. Using watches as an investment strategy is OK too, while watch flipping as a avocation isn't. Car shots are OK, but not the ones with a pair of blurry shoes in the background.
I love watch and knife pictures! I think there are quite a few people who are passionate about both and many peoples' passion for knives has nothing to do with "weapons". I think it's wrong to assume that any knife is immediately a weapon. A knife is primarily a tool, an incredibly useful one at that. Yes, there are knives that were specifically designed as weapons; however, I would say that the majority of pocket knives were simply designed as tools and many even as useful "pocket jewlery"" (and most knives (pocket knives, kitchen knives etc) are also used as tools, not as weapons).
Never tell law enforcement you are carrying a knife for "self defense" that makes it a "weapon". If you say it is for food prep. cutting boxes, tape etc. then it is a "tool" most laws about knives are now about "intent".
In the U.S. the love of watches has a good crossover with other mechanical hobbies like cars and guns. Guns are obviously a huge part of the U.S.A.'s founding and culture so a lot of people carry a firearm everyday just like we carry a knife, flashlight, and wear a watch! Most of us have our license and train at least on a semi regular basis. We carry to protect our loved ones, and we dont mean to intimidate or be aggressive in these photos. The guns are just a part of what we love and carry every day! I totally get how its a foreign concept to most outside the U.S., and they often have a negative connotation, but I hope to break that misconception about gun owners. Maybe I'll do a video on the subject. Great video I love this type of content!
Love Breitling. Couldn't care what people think. Rolex fans seem to suffer "Exposure Syndrome". The moment society drops off, so will the fanboys. (Yes, I own 3 of them, including A Batgirl)
Anything over 44 mm is a clock. There is a picture of Ali wearing Tank and it looks amazing. My 1959 Smiths small seconds is tiny, it's a train engineers watch, train engineers had bigger wrists than a desk pilot of today. Just because it looks good on Arnie doesn't mean it looks good on you.
One more thing I thought of after watching the video again. About "non-manly" watch sizes; I've seen a photo of Muhammad Ali wearing a Cartier Tank. I'm pretty sure nobody told him that his watch was too dainty. 🤣
Hi Jenni. The only point I would like to comment on is the grey market Rolex. I have personally experienced awful treatment from official Rolex channels and vendors. They are the epitome of so and so's, snubs and bellends. So thank god for the parallel markets and secondary markets. What other options do I have? Beg to be placed on a list and wait for years to get my hand on something so common as a Rolex? It is just a matter of price, as Rolex have lost the plot and cannot deal with their own success. Some would say "you are crazy to pay bigger prices for this Rolex" but these are mainly Scottish tightfisted folk who shop 1 tomato, 1 cucumber and 1 carrot every other forthnight and bathe in the same water for 4 consecutive days to save money. If you are after a luxury watch you have to pay for it. It's part of the intrigue and the excitement to outbid someone else.I hope you get my point! Lovely work by the way. I am a fan of yours!
Jenni…question…can you clear something up for me. Pet peeve of mine is seeing watches, mostly diver watches, that have been modded with a bezel ring showing 1-24 hours with no GMT hand. Isn’t that type of bezel only for GMT watches? What use is it other than for looks? I acknowledge I may be wrong about this. That’s why I’m asking. Thanks.
The worst thing I see is when people ask for something like a sub 1k diver and them damn Rolex fanboys commenting "just save up *a little more* for a Submariner, duh".
Also , Mrs Jenni, you have a twin … my nephew is a spiting image of you …. I enjoy watching you because of 3 things … your wonderful accent , you resemble my nephew so well and your content of course!!! 😃🍿
I have been watching timepiece/watch channels since the pandemic started, I do admit to being a bit weary of it now, and that is probably down to the ‘collective neurosis’ of some of those within the community (not you Jenni) making their petty observations.
The worst trait is when people assume you are a “collector” when you have more than one watch. If you have a car and a truck, you aren’t a car “collector” you just have more than one for different uses. If you have more than one shirt, you aren’t a shirt “collector” so if I have a couple daily watches and one dress watch, I’m not a watch “collector”.
There is a beautiful saying in a group called the whiskey tribe. "The best whiskey is the one you like, and the best way to drink a whiskey is the way you like it" That being said i really don't want to hear about your " limited edition " moon watch
I was thinking the same, I'm a big fan of watches and scotch. That being said these channels are why I just can buy The Macallan or Rolex. Both are Beyond the point of diminishing value
Most of my watches are 40mm, but my first--and probably only--vintage purchase is a 1961 Seamaster 562 at 34 mm. I also wear a 36mm Zeppelin LZ 129 Hindenburg (Quartz!). I have an 8-inch wrist, but I like the mid-century size.
You should have mentioned the smart watch craze. Tag. Garmin. Apple. They are not a replacement to a luxury timepiece but a good partner/addition to own.
I learn more about a person when they tell me something they dislike more than I do from the dislike itself. And I'd say in a few of these the 'negative traits' are more in the people pointing them out.
"Snobbery from inexpensive watchowners toward the luxury market and it's [sic] owners." The oppression of the privileged and entitled must not be allowed to fester!

From where I sit, I think one of the more positive things about social media can be an opportunity to digest and be exposed to a diversity of viewpoints, perspectives, and so on, maybe that is the case with the viewpoints of those making such posts. Just some food for thought! Sorry for writing a novel, keep up the excellent work.
I saw this interview where you said you didn't like the sound of your voice but I love, love, love the sound of your voice! And the content too of course! Thanks for all the great content. 👍
Loved this video. I have nothing but adoration for Jenni and this video is exemplary of why that is. Well done!
I need to say that the 20 seconds of gestures and facial expressions from 12:10 to 12:30 are the greatest thing ever. I’ve replayed this more times than I care to admit
Yeah I get it too, Jenni is pretty easy on the eyes...
@@Straight_outta_bounds NO!!! One can do that anytime with far more titilating pictures elsewhere. There is nothing wrong with appreciating beauty where one see it!

Thanks for the great video. Your videos have wonderful production and contact. Also your demeanor is very pleasant. Thanks
I’ve been watching a lot of Britt recently. She’s great…but you never forget your first love. ❤ Thanks for another great vid Jenni. 😀
As a man with an 140mm wrist size, I definitely feel more comfortable wearing smaller watches, esp. 30 to 34mm ones. A 36mm watch is already a big watch for me.
if you buy a watch thinking only in resale value then you're a merchant, not a collector
Key word being "only."
And unfortunately many don’t abide by the old adage “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”
If you are buying watches strictly for getting approval and affirmation from others, you’re going to be disappointed.
@VitalyMack I 100% agree. Very happy with my purchases. I figured I was in the minority, but your anecdotal data is interesting.
@@chriscline6483 lol, I am sure, there are studies done on this. I personally seen this over and over again. For example your typical bargain hunter is exactly the opposite. These people are miserable, rude and even if you sell them a product below cost, they will always feel like they were ripped off....and will come back to complain later and leave poor reviews. If a small watch makes you less masculine perhaps you weren’t that masculine to begin with. A confident man can rock any watch! At least that’s what I keep telling myself! 😂
True indeed. All these big chunky things look awful.
@@ironmic9244 Invicta wants to know you location
Guess what: I didn't give a shit and just enjoyed the designs.
Funny thing is that when look back now. I am probably the one who was getting laid the most out of my fellow students. Take that for your masculinity bullshit 😂
One of the things I absolutely love about the watch enthusiast community is the passion. I may or may not agree with your opinions, but I love to hear them.
Much of collecting watches (timepieces) is subjective. I like to hear the opinions opposite of mine. This really gets me to reflect and consider things I might not have before.
One thing is for sure. Jenni is the sweetest person to have an argument with! You will never beat her, at max it will be a tie! ❤️

I enjoyed this so much, it was so much fun. "Desk-diver? Well you don't fly a plane with your Breitling" (so much sass - joyful!!)

I used the word timepiece once when I was talking to someone about my watches, I instantly felt how unnatural it was and haven’t said it since lol
I only take my timepiece off of my mantlepiece for cleaning. Actually, one's staff does it.

Great content Jenni! Thank you
Love the video! I hope you do more like this! I also got a hot take for you too: wearing a watch without knowing the company's history. It's great that some people know the history behind the brand, but you don't have to lambaste someone for not knowing a watch company's past. Do you know the history behind your wrangler jeans? Or your hyundai car? Or your converse shoes? You can just appreciate the watch and design without getting into a history lesson
Not a fan of Tag but I do think Brietling has been moving in the right direction with some of their models as of late.
Jenni, another wonderful video as always! You bring such a beautiful energy to the watch world.
Watching this video, put me in a genuinely good mood. You’re positive and jovial presentation talking about the list made me laugh a couple of times. Thank you for the work you so entertaining us.
Great vid Jenni. Very entertaining. Based on the wrist shot of the new Kermit/Cermit, can we expect an upcoming vid on that watch?
Great video and topic! Real fun! I am guilty of some of these things. No weapons in forum pics. Get me kicked off. But my black cat...yup. I take pics of my watches at work with flowers.....roses. No steering wheel. Snobbery? To each their own. No interest in Rolex or tudor, but I love my GS. Watch size? I ware from a Seiko sumo to a vintage king Seiko.
Thanks again for the fun video
Great vid as always Miss Jen! Thanks
"wear the watch with confidence" BOOM! Love it Jenni!!
I just did a slow wrist roll with my F91W while sitting in the deer blind. It was classic
Did you scare them away with that flash?
I love my Seiko spring drive watch (timepiece), I love the specs and the titanium case and band...... I could have easily bought an Omega or Breitling but I do love my SNR 033 and I know that it will serve me well for many years to come.
Nice - I love that snr045 too. Fantastic watches flying under the radar. I love the spring drive as well.
Better watch in many regards.

A future classic
Breitling makes amazing watches
That is so bloody sweet! A life time watch right there!
Very cool video Jenni! I like how you don't take this hobby too seriously and just enjoy it. Do you have any Japanese watches other than Seiko? I think Citizen and Orient do some cool looking watches.
Wonderful video Jenni. Your videos are like listening to a good friend.
Thank you Jenni! Have a nice day!😀
Thanks Jenni , enjoyed the content.
The Tag Link watch has a beautiful bracelet, paired with an ETA workshorse it makes a great watch that will last. It's not a luxury watch, but it's a nice daily watch.
As a resident of Texas. It is very common for someone to wear a watch., carry a gun and a pocket knife daily.
ya lots of people find that cringe. it is what it is

I love this video. The star has a fun personality. Thanks Jenni.
Me with my Seiko: Yuck, you wear a Hublot? What's wrong with you?
Also: Oh that's a nice Rolex, but is that an aftermarket dial?
At home, alone: When will i afford a Tissot? 🥲
Interested in your thoughts on Swarovski watches, they just sooooo pretty 😍 ✨️ I would love to see a womens watch gift guide for Christmas 🎄 particularly in the more affordable range. 😀
The "Rolex are beautiful watches" was a very specific sarcastic/humoristic comment aimed at one specific person who keeps posting the same message on each of his posts. I totally understood it. If you didn't, means you don't follow the group that much
I’m the guy who made the joke on the Drinking Coffee & Talking Watches thread the other day. It was indeed a nod to our fellow member who always post the same caption with his tacky Rolex pictures. It was only a joke and I’m glad some people understood the nod. I feel sorry for Jenni who thought I was being serious (at least I made the thumbnail of her video haha).
@@ianmcfly31 I totally understood it the second I read your comment.
And indeed thought the same about this member collection.
@@omarion07 lol, as if shit talking Tag and Breitling isn't a trend? Welcome to people shit talking you, Rolex fan, the rest of us know the feeling well. Both Jeni's and your responses to people talking down your precious Rolex is funny af when you approve of doing the same thing to other brands, and in Jeni's case even make a video about it which she readily admits here. She had to have put those two questions together on purpose because the irony is too great to be coincidence.
Would be nice if Jenni would interact more in the comments section of her vlogs. I don't see her here and some viewers make valid points I would appreciate her responding or commenting on. Oh well....🙄

Great Content! The person makes the watch, the watch does not make the person.
Loved the sassiness today! Thank you for another entertaining presentation.
Definitely experienced snobbery, from people who wear watches under $500. They just think you're and idiot, and they think they outsmarted you buy buying some trashy Seiko, Squale, Steinhart, or whatever micro-brand.
That moment when you see a watch related video and the guy explains that you should take your Omega with you when traveling because if it gets stolen your expensive watches will be safe and you look at your filippo loreti and know you got scammed:)
What a great topic! Regarding "watchpiece," it's perfectly fine; there aren't a lot of synonyms for "watch," so it's bound to be used when discussing watches on literal watch fan forums and pages. Sort of like using "sofa" instead of "couch" etc.
I enjoy the scratches on a watch. They remind me I’ve been lucky enough to own it for awhile.
Agreed on the wrist roll! Can’t be too slow and also can’t be too quick
This was tough. Puts us all on the spot I guess. Ah well, buy and wear what you love and enjoy your collection how you want 😎👍
Hi Jenni, lange nicht in Deinem Kanal gestöbert …. Schön Dich wiederzusehen
In the U.S. the love of watches has a good crossover with other mechanical hobbies like cars and guns.
Its funny how you reacted to the watch roll you clearly edited your response it’s hilarious 😂
As a new fan I really enjoyed "sassy" Jenni, more please.
Love Breitling. Couldn't care what people think. Rolex fans seem to suffer "Exposure Syndrome". The moment society drops off, so will the fanboys. (Yes, I own 3 of them, including A Batgirl)
As with almost every collector group out there, you will find people who are overtly concerned about what others think and do within the hobby.
I am a fan of yours!
scammers? LOL

Agree completely. I always put ice in my single malt. I hate warm scotch.
Can you please try to rate seiko presage what are the collectibles?
You should have mentioned the smart watch craze. Tag. Garmin. Apple. They are not a replacement to a luxury timepiece but a good partner/addition to own.
I've been eyeing wena by Sony for a while now, if they just decide to release it ww sometime soon, I think it's a genius move by Sony.
I learn more about a person when they tell me something they dislike more than I do from the dislike itself. And I'd say in a few of these the 'negative traits' are more in the people pointing them out.

What, no humour in the watch community...I found this video pretty funny and entertaining. One of the annoying things I find are the watch enthusiasts who have plenty of high-end watches but sit there spruiking up the cheapest Casio's and G-shocks as the best watches ever. 36mm & smaller okay for men to wear - What's wrong with that? Not all men have large wrists. My wrist is about 8" & my sweet spot in the 41mm-45mm range. I have several sub-40mm watches.
