Louise has a right to her views. Nobody compares Pope Francis to the Yorkshire Ripper. I was a child in Yorkshire during the time of the Ripper, believe me he caused far more fear than Louise Mensch has done. Louise is clever, beautiful and witty, she is a credit to the 90s generation.

Which shows that underneath all the "edgy" comedy, Frankie Boyle is just another left wing, grievance mongering panderer to the failed Marxist ideology. Perhaps we should nationalise comedians, and take all their money, Frankie would be glad to have all his money taken away, and live in a state owned council house. What no?

The sad truth is that many deluded (and increasingly greedy) people DID vote for Thatcher. My father, to his eternal regret, voted for her in '79 despite voting against the Tories in every other election before and since.
Thatcher was a single-minded menace, but she rode on a wave of like-minded greedy aspiration of people who weren't happy with what they already had. People are, unfortunately, like that and not much has changed.

Thatcher was historically unpopular in her 2nd term, and the unpopular Michael Foot was polling over 50% before the SDP split off and the Falklands War. Thatcher wasn't some sort of super popular politician, but the stars aligned in such a way that she could ride a surging wave of nationalism with the Falklands War.

I personally didn't give a flying shit and the fact that the anchor apologized at the end for Alexis' "word" surprised me and almost pissed me off, wtf? I then realized that the station and tv networks have a reputation to keep up so the short apology was actually a good thing considering their circumstance. If the anchor started apologizing like a lil kid that's not trying to get into trouble, I would then call in myself and tell them to censor themselves less because they're making themselves look like little babies caring more about political correctness rather than presenting the facts and the shitty opinions of their guests.

Alexei Sayle and actually a lot of alternative comedians of the 80s helped me through with my History lessons at School. Because of the 80s humour, this motivated me to learn about Stalin, Trotsky, Marx and Lenin. That and my Dad (being an ex Sgt in The parachute regiment) insisted we watched the local and international news every bleeding night in order to know what is going down in the world . By the time I was 14 I had a pretty good idea and a healthy view on politics. Needless to say that when it came for my time to vote, I had no ideas whose policies actually makes sense, and to be honest, nothing has changed.

Thatcher did have a t the very least a borderline personality disorder and was in fact a terrible politician. She almost single-handedly decimated British manufacturing, she sold off all council houses leaving very little social housing for future generations, she privatised things like energy, trains and telecommunications (hence all the problems we have today!) and she sold off energy companies to foreign conglomerates and thoroughly wasted north sea gas. The former Conservative prime minister was responsible for "every real problem" faced in the UK today, as she had led millions of people out of work.
Of course she was popular, she was offering people their homes at a cut price. But she didn't build any houses.
She created today's housing crisis, she produced the banking crisis, she created the benefits crisis. It was her government that started putting people on incapacity benefits rather than register them as unemployed because the Britain she inherited was broadly at full employment.
She decided when she wrote off our manufacturing industry that she could live with two or three million unemployed and the legacy of that, the benefits bill that we are still struggling with today.
In actual fact, every real problem we face today is the legacy of the fact she was fundamentally wrong.
She will be remembered by many for the destructive and divisive policies she reigned over which in the end, even in the Tory party, proved to be her downfall.
Her legacy involves the destruction of communities, the elevation of personal greed over social values and legitimising the exploitation of the weak by the strong.
Margaret Thatcher laid the basis for policies which wrecked the lives of millions in Britain. But she should also be remembered as a warmonger.
She led alongside Ronald Reagan the escalation of the Cold War. She introduced cruise missiles to Britain and fought the Falklands war. Her arms deals with Saudi Arabia were notorious.
She famously said "theres no such thing as society. Well there certainly wasnt after she had finished. About to lose an election she manipulated a war with Argentina by ordering her defence fleet to withdraw from The Falklands knowing it would encourage the Argies to attack.
THATCHER- THE MOST HATED WOMAN IN BRITISH HISTORY !!!

bighands69 In 1979 Unemployment was 5.7%. This level was never again reached by Thatcher or indeed by any Tory leader in their 18 years up to 1997. Most years under Thatcher the level was more than double this. For goodness sake get your facts right before you make yourself look a total clown Bighands !!!

So maybe Mench should get her facts correct first. I am (sort of) a fan of Thatcher's - I am certainly not a lefty, but I do think Sayle is a great comedian. Mrs Thatcher's legacy should be seen in the context of what was happening before the 1979 Election. 29% Inflation, mass strikes, rubbish piled high in the streets, the dead un-buried & the lights going out regularly due to electricity & mine workers going on strike. Poor quality industries, proped up by government subsidies, making products that no-one wanted to buy (EG Austin Allegro).Mrs Thatcher did many things which were wrong (EG Poll Tax). But to continue the status quo was not a viable option.
