There has never been a rendition of this song as passionate and amazing as Morissette's. It is her rendition, and it absolutely works for me. There are no flaws or inaccuracies, as you state. There is 100% Morissette in this performance. You won't find anybody who is able to perform this song in the same quality. It doesn't get any better.

Thank you, Dr. Dan, for featuring this "Run To You" performance by Morissette, live on a TV show. It was not actually a contest, like "The Voice", but a segment of a weekly entertainment show where two amazing artists get to do a "showdown", but nobody would be declared a winner. By the way, Jed Madela is years senior of Mori.
I agree with your comments, those "Mori squeaks" as we call them -- which are part of her signature sound, and which she adds to the covers she makes so as to make her own version different from the original -- are awesome to listen to, although they may add to the wear and tear of the vocal chords. That's why in the more recent performances and new songs she put out, she uses less and less of these vocal inflections, which are also as advised by her doctor. As a matter of perspective, I think she has already shown to us that she could all do these vocal techniques, whistles included, that other singers and us mere mortals, can't do and wished we could do, and how amazing they are. So now she could do away with them to be able to preserve her voice to be able to sing and put out more music for many more number of years. 🥰

Its not in a competition but rather in a noon time TV variety show every weekend, its a segment called Versus where professional singers battle it out. Mori is part of that TV show along with Jed, the guy she shared the stage with. Both world class singers!

The name of the Sunday Variety Show is ASAP. They had that segment where they sort of match two singers, one which is usually a seasoned singer which is Jed Madela and the other singer is quite new to the scene which is Morissette. It is not a competition: it's almost like one, but the whole performance would also show the two singers finishing a duet of another Whitney song. Jed sang also another Whitney song for his part.

@@DrDanRobinson I actually had at one time the whole video, except for the voting. Jed is an accomplished singer who has won many awards over the years. Like most of the male singers from the Philippines he has a high voice. He moves from chest to mix to head voice seamlessly. His performance lacked the heart that Morissette brings to each performance. It was good, technically, but didn't have the heart.
I found two videos, one is the commercial to build up the challenge. Second are the total performances so you can be the judge. Both are good, but Mori is Mori and he is not. My feeling about it.
OOPs!! I had never played to the complete end, because she comes back out and they end their Whitney battle with a rousing chorus of 'One Moment In Time' where they give each other their best. I am not ashamed to say they brought an emotional out-burst from me that could not be contained. Good thing I live alone because I might have scared the crap out of them. So now I call it a draw between the two. You decide for yourself. ENJOY!!!!!

Hey Dr. Dan. The 'in ear' issue with Morissette is prevalent in many of her live performances. Morissette is constantly taking one can of her headphones off while singing on the Wishbus and in many live songs she either does not have her 'in ear' in place or she pulls one out. Yes, I agree....a little imperfection only shows that she is human and in a world of 'pitch tuning' those imperfections show how insanely talented she is because most others would have to rely on those tools to fix their performances.
Imperfection is good it's means she's singing for real because some people accusing her using lipsync 😅.
I've heard covers of this song by various artists...but i know that Morissette's cover is one of the best among the covers because of the power in those upperbelts.... i didn't like this performance at the beginning either but on a closer inspection the little imperfections and the rawness gives life to the song in my opinion... but my favorite performance of Run to You by Morissette is the one she sung inside the cathedral or a church

I'm as big a Mori fan as there is, but I too have always noticed a few very minor imperfections in this performance and others. However, they are easily overlooked and far outweighed by her exceptional and extraordinary vocal prowess. She has a quality that is just so sonically pleasant to our ears, plus she's a beautiful, passionate, captivating performer, which is not that common. Not to mention that this is not unexpected in a live performance as opposed to studio recording where imperfections are removed with technology and retakes. Near perfection!

Pitch correction is so commonplace that some people forget what uncorrected vocals actually sound like. It's also given some people a warped expectation of "perfection" that actually isn't being achieved naturally.

It might have been performed at ASAP, a Sunday variety show in ABS-CBN. Jed Madela, one of the hosts in ASAP is a winner in the World Performance Arts

I once asked Jed what it was like to follow a vocalist like Morissette and he got SO fukn mad. On a live he got seriously mad. I couldn't understand why.

I know you think Morissette is a wonderful singer but I can't help but notice you always point out imperfections in her singing. I watched you do a couple of Gigi songs and not once did you point out any imperfections in her performances yet there had to be because she is not the singer Morissette is as far as versatility goes (my opinion). I love listening to Gigi also but is it because no one is perfect and she is as close to perfect as one can be or what?
