I always like GNB's Rama Katha sudha...no two opinions for me. The crisp Aalapanai of the raga,..the rendition of the kruthi, a.nd of course the line starting with Bama ...during swara prastara..and the swara.prastsra as a whole ,takes.one to a different.plane...divine nature of singing each line specially karma Bandha... Kaliahara me.....Thyagaraja..etc are super.. The ending of the line rasa paana Mohamu raajyamu jesite...out of the world. Ni sa ni ni sa sani PA Bama. .like this it goes on his own Un matched...thrilling..
No match to his Himagiri Dhanaye and Radha Samedha Krishna . I always hear both the songs together immediately one after another . It gives immesne pleasure .
Of course GNB is all pure class guided with precision. But for this krithi ported on U-Tube, it is s case of "guruvai mingina shishya" and Trichur V Ramachandran rendition takes the cake with rich tonal clarity, elevated sruthi and adherence to the GNB style. All others look pedestrian in comparison including the doyen Ariyakudi! Balamurali's alapana effort was a big big let down since he did not bring out the jeevan/essence of the raaga until 03:08 minutes elapsed on the video! Of course, his diction is very good in comparison but overall below an average performance. Both GNB & his disciple TVR unravel the raaga lakshana within 15 seconds of Alapana opening. This kind of manodharma signals a warm welcome to a genuine rasika invoking a virtual handshake without labouring on technicalities that is not of great delight to the connoisseur of Carnatic music.
Madhyamavati has a special place in Carnatic music and is presumed to be an auspicious ragam while majority concerts ends with either a song in this or the ending of the last song is sung in this ragam! Of course , nowadays that preemptive right is gone!. It is very suitable for elaboration and exploration due to even spacing of notes... Ar : S R₂ M₁ P N₂ Ṡ/Av : Ṡ N₂ P M₁ R₂ S. Needless to say GNB really did celebrate this! But he condensed his Kalpanasworam though took-off in an extempored manner. GNB invariably manage the flow of any ragam thats enchanting n perfectly touching souls of listeners! GNB maintained his tone in tact....Thats his USP. Wonderful recital. Pranams to the great soul of the legendary vocalist cum Composer .
We must also note that Sri MSG has given the best violin support besides Sri C S Murugabhoopathy's Mridangam. A great concert. Sri GNB not only the best vocalist, but also a fine teacher 🙏🙏🙏
