Was at that Hawks game with my family! Its too bad there's no where to buy decent goalie gear in Nashville. None of the stores carry anything top of the line. I guess youve gotta go travel quite a distance to fit some Brians, Vaughns or true's. The Hockey stores are one of the few things I miss about Canada
Oh that’s awesome that you were there. But yeah it’s tough to buy hockey gear in Nashville. We have a pure hockey just outside of town and that’s as close as it gets
again the main obstacle in my hockey journey was being born in the wrong country and even tho I made tryouts in the SPHL they had all the imports budget spent. And now I`m to old to even think on being a EBUG so I think I`m on the road to become a Goalie Coach. Thanks for sharing this. I remember asking you how to become an EBUG and you said it was subject for another video, and finally couple of years later you delivered.
Hahaha yeah definitely took my sweet time putting this out. But everyone’s journey is different. All that matters is that you make the most of it and enjoy the ride. I’ll be transitioning into a new chapter soon enough. 35 has been good so far but we’ll how these old bones hold up
well @@BonesyTV I`m 47 and pretty active on the ice from twice to four times a week, two of them are 4 and a half hours three sessions with two zambonis, training my kids, training my self and a screamage with U18 U20 and a mix of beer leagers, national team players and the ocacional pro guy that´s traveling in Mexico.
@@BonesyTV lol that's a long way in the future my friend. Good to see you staying busy and keeping those young guns frustrated out there on the ice! Keep it up buddy!!
Thanks for sharing! I'm an EBUG for a city you didn't mention. My opportunity came in the form of goalie coaching our local AAA travel teams. Some of the skills/skating coaches I was working with at that time doubled for the pro team. I suppose they saw I was responsible, professional, and "qualified enough" to serve in the role. Maybe I should check out the Global Goaltending Retreat next year!
HIGHLY recommend looking into GGR. Justin Goldman can help you out with that. But that’s so awesome! So cool to hear how other peoples roads lead to an EBUG role. What city are you in?
@@BonesyTV Pittsburgh! I'm looking at the website now. Did you apply as a coach or demo goalie? Or sign up as a participant? It'd be great to hear new ideas, meet guys, and stay on top of my game. You know...just in case!
Great vid! I got a question since your an ebug do get season tickets for the preds every year? And also do you have your owns locker in the locker room? Keep up the great work!
Great video, just subbed, excited for future content. I noticed in some of these clips your gear is very similar to a finnish goalies gear. Have you had some of his old gear?
Awesome! That’s what we like to hear. And yeah I’ve worn a lot of his gear over the years. I’m still using one of his chest protectors he gave to before he retired
I’d say be patient and try not to get caught doing too much. I like to use the box control feature on sense arena when I can too. Really helps understand the amount of space you fill and being in the right place.
Who in the organization usually handles/arranges ebugs? I know the odds of being put in service are small but they are zero unless I tell the right person I'm available even for practice or workouts.
@@BonesyTV I do not mind at all and I am excited to hear where this goes. Thank you for the response. I have been following you for a while and it is neat to have a glimpse into the EBUG life.
Can you make an in-depth video on how to shoot the puck? I got a 580 glove to help but I still have no power or lift to the puck. 😂 everyone tells me put glove closer to the paddle or away from paddle and put knob in palm or don’t put in palm. HELP!
Haha I’m definitely not an expert when it comes to playing the puck in any fashion but I can also say that I’ve come a long way. A lot of it has to do with strength. I just didn’t have the forearm strength to get the power I needed. But the other HUGE thing is getting your top hand up. Goalie sticks have a much different lie than player sticks so the angle you need to get your stick flat along the ice is more extreme. And then it just comes down to practice. Passing pucks around until your arms feel like they’re going to fall off and then taking a break before passing a few more. You’ll get there
Great vid! Do you get any compensation from the team for being the ebug? Feels hard to have a normal job while at the same time train, be at the rink for all games etc
How much do you get paid or compensated only related to the EBUG position? If you do get paid are you a 10-99 or W2? Are there any benefits (healthcare, 401k, and etc...)? If you can't be an EBUG on a particular game, is the a back up roster/waiting list to the EBUG position? (Basically is there a backup of a backup position)
Oh man this is an in depth question. On the compensation side of things it’s much more simple. I touch on it in my FAQ question coming up in a couple weeks. But on the waiting list question, I can’t really speak for other teams but we have a list of other goalies that can be called on if needed
@@BonesyTV After the HR/payroll compensation side, how about the non HR/payroll compensation, like free tickets, free food, free hockey sticks, free gear, free ice time, can you practice with the team, and etc...
@@colestanfield-b9llooks like it’s still active!! Not sure if you’re upgrading to a monthly or yearly subscription but apparently the code only works for the yearly
Awesome story! Considering you’re good enough to practice with the pros and even be an EBUG have you or did you consider or try for any level of pro hockey? SPHL or the like?
Playing pro was always the dream but that ship sailed much longer before I even realized. I'm sure I could make a good push to play pro if I put everything into it but at 35 it'd be tough to find a team that would be willing to take on an older guy like me with no real pro experience to speak of.
That ship had said for me well before 2012 and during that experience during the lockout it became very clear as to why. Pro guys are just on a whole other level and I wasn’t even close and at this point I’m a lot older and still have zero pro experience so kinda tough to get a job with a resume like that
