Scored! Nostalgia activated! Parents had an 83 (poverty pack) single range. It became my car when I turned 17. I left Australia in 1996, it sat 24 years in the driveway until I had scrap collectors pick it up in 2020.
Not sad. I have a Suzuki Carry Ute I own in Australia since 2014. I get to drive it for one month each year when I'm back on holiday. Would love to see you rebuild a Suzuki Carry!
I had two of these in the early 2000's. I absolutely loved them. Looking at this one was so familiar. Exactly the same rust, wear on door trim. It was like looking at my old subi. I know have an Outback. Closest thing to the good old '84 Touring Wagon you can get in a modern car.
Thanks Christopher! Yes after a thorough detail and some mechanicals a true gem was revealed. Thanks for watching. A new episode will drop in the next day or so as well.
Mate. You have hooked me on this one. I can’t buy it, I have my own projects happening but I will love watching this. I first had an ‘82 Touring Wagon. Looking at all the little things on it, lots came flooding back to me. That parcel shelf under the glove box was great. The dash was simple and well laid out. Everything was easy to use. That roof was just vinyl and could get a nice wipe down and all good. The rust is all the same as back in the day. Like looking at my old one with that. The corner of the windscreen. Surface rust on the boot sill. All the same then as it looks now. I can’t tell you how much fun we had in these. A few mates bought them as well. Taught us to be good off-road drivers because the cruisers and Hiluxes just plowed the sand with no skill required but we had to get mad skills to get to where we wanted. Always went where people didn’t think they could go. The 82 never had rust treatment but ‘83 and ‘84 had epoxy like modern cars do. They are the pick of the bunch for sure. The seats, have a look at those. They have held up super well. They had either a strong backing under the velour (or plastic) from memory. It was a car ahead of its time. I’d love to buy one and get a modern drive train in it and modern interior features if I had the money. A lift kit, 14’s. Some All Terrain tyres. Even has the factory roof sticker. How good is that sunroof. I put a Weber carby on mine.
That's why I bought it mate. Really is in good condition and apparently the bump out in the roof is only in a few models as well as the sunroof. The sunroof is sticking a little bit. Love your input mate too btw. Seems these were close to many peeps hearts.
What a mint wagon you have found. I was so stoked to see it in the flesh at the classic car show at Banyo. The MY Leone wagon was my first ever car and started my love affair with subis. I have owned a wagon sedan and brumby plus a few L series and now the vortex. I am sure someone will be super keen to own it. Look forward to seeing where it ends up 😎👍
I just saw this car on carsales. Absolutely amazing job Adam. I love Japanese cars from the 80s - so much style!! I just sent a few bucks to your paypal - I wish I could send more. Keep up the good job!
Love it we had one back in the day went around Australia in it as wee high whipper snappers. . Not a major fan of new Subies but love these things can't wait to see how she comes up👍👍
Everyone says they are quite capable. She is in good nick so not a lot of work to do. It has had a repair job on the drivers side rear door area and I may have to adjust the front door as well. Thanks for the comment also mate.
That's a perfect flip for you Adam. Great generation of cars, someone will throw you money for that when it's had the Adam treatment. But this is a quick flip for you. Once your deep clean treatment and rust treatment is done. Tidying up plastics and few jobs around it. It's going to look a beaut. Looking forward to this one.
Just finished the video and completely agree - will bring back memories of their childhood for omeone our generation. That's what first attracted me to your channel with the Pug. I wonder how it's getting on living in My?
@@FLIPMYRIDE They are very temperamental, I have a 1983 Leone 2 door hardtop with digital dash , the clock doesn't work , speedo works sometimes , dash lights come and go . They pretty much all seem to fail at some point . Subaru got rid of them and installed analog cluster.
I've got one of these as my daily driver, although not the touring wagon model. 1981, mum and dad bought it new, I restored it ground up myself with some mods (some clips on my channel if you're interested) You've got a really nice clean example there, personally I've only seen one other wagon on the road apart from mine in the last 10 years (SA) they're getting very scarce, there's none in any wreckers near me any more. They usually rust in the bottom windscreen corners and bottom of the A pillar from the windscreen leaking or the fresh air vent area at the bottom of the windscreen. And at the front of the rear wheel arches, bottom corners of the rear windscreen. Looking forward to see what you do with it! I don't think the sun roof is factory and you might reconsider removing the tint; on a 20 degree day in full sun I either needed the A/C on full blast or all the windows open, these things are like a greenhouse in the sun. Tint on mine fixed all that.
Hi Sam. Thanks for the input mate. I will have a look. This had bee rust proofed so has helped preserve most of the car from major issues. The tints are stuffed. Bubbling and hazy. I may get new tints later on. The sunroof is full factory as well. Very very rare apparently.
@@FLIPMYRIDE that sunroof is definitely rare, also not listed in any of the factory option sheets or the service or parts manual. ( either up front or at the rear, for wagons, sedans or coupes - so well done) mind you the AC was listed as standard for the touring wagon, but was still fitted in the Australian dealers' workshop rather than coming off the ship from nippon with it already installed AFAIK- so that sunroof may well have been dealer fitted from new as a one-off at that dealership.
@@bluedogozwoofer6737 Hey mate. Yeah the sunroof is fitted like a factory fitment. It is fully electric with factory looking fitment and switch gear and still has its clip on plastic cover. No hack job like many had done in the day. And yeah maybe a one off for a keen buyer and was done by an Aust. recommended fitter through the dealer. ???
I had this model , but with the 3AT auto, great that the digiDash works at all for you, THATS extremely rare, For some reason your does not have the AC which should be standard in the touring wagon, Its also NOT a L-series the L series started in 1985 and has very little in common with the MY series (series 2), which is what you have, that rear sunroof is extremely likely to be an aftermarket option, its not Factory AFAIK the coupe models did not have 4WD its a great find in a manual - well done
The little soo-bar-oooo. Wow
Had the pleasure of checking this beast out up close. Beautiful example. Can't wait to see you take it to the next level 👍🏾

Thanks for sharing Chris. They were popular and loved so it seems
I had one of these for my first car back in 2000. Loved it. They almost are non existent these days.
It is in nice condition and the interior is in excellent shape. Great find!
