If it wasn't Khorkina, I'd say this was an average floor routine and the choreography could have been better. Sveta however, was famous for capturing the attention of the audience. She smiled throughout this routine and to me that made this performance special. Of course a whip to triple twist isn't bad either. :-) She is my favourite gymnast and this Olympics were her last competition. - กีฬา
Her face just glows after throwing that whip triple twist. She is so expressive and captivating - such a star.

I love this routine, I believe that if Khorkina just walked across the mat she would be 10 times more elegant graceful and artistic than half of today gymnasts.

Oh please, the gymnasts like Morgan Hurd and Brooklyn Moors have more real choreography in one floor routine than Khorkina thorough her whole career, lol.

Today’s so-called gymnasts are rather obese, ugly and pleasing to look at and generally just taking the sport to the bottom level. Thank you for your understanding from a very old man.
Of course she is the queen of gymnastics. She won every single world and olympic title on bars from 1995 to 2001. that's unheard of. she has 20 world medals + 7 olympic medals. she 's the only gymnast to be 3 time all around champion. she's very tall for a gymnast and managed a ten year long career. she has titles on every single apaparatus, and 8 skills named after her. the only gymnast to have a skill named after her on all 4 apparatus. i mean...i could just continue for hours. QUEEN KHORKINA!

Vika Komova did the same thing in London - she used Amy Winehouse's You know I'm no good, and Queen's Show must go on - she also performed very passionately. That FX routine was a gold winning finish - too bad it didn't come through. But I really think it was deep, artistic and emotional performance.

What I love most about this routine is that she got the crowd clapping to a slow song. She just knew how to really preform. There is no where in the music that prompts clapping lol. I love it.
I got mad goosebumps when the vibe changes after her whip triple full at 01:00... she blows the audience a kiss and they're owned. And the smiling... I forgot how captivating and beautiful Khorkina is. Unbelievable.
Nice music and iterpretation. I love when she blows a kiss to the crowd from 1:11-1:13 She had great contact with the crowd. And of course she smiles. She knew she was performing her last floor routin in the Olympic Games,her third and last Olympics,finishing well. Good enough to finally win a medal in the all around.

Yup, but part of this song was also a wise choice, it's "Goodbye my love" by Greek musician Demis Roussos. She basically paid respect to her hosts, but she also made them cheer for her using the song she knew would work on them. :) Anyway, listen to the words of the song, makes this routine even more emotional, Sveta saying goodbye to her greatest love. :) /watch?v=7nZKMm-nOsc.
it's like she put this routine together so she could say goodbye to gymnastics in the best way she could.
That was beautifl. Very hard for the judges to decide either carly or she. Thank goodness she popped that smile! After that the routine looked so much better and the crowd even started clapping. Thats all it takes!

That is so awesome...this is what gymnastics is about...the thought behind the routines as well. I wish gymnastics was more like this and rewarded like this...oh well..I can always remember!

She also has skills that WASN'T named after her because of technicalities but she was the FIRST - and only - to perform, like the sublime, gainer full twist on beam. The Queen.
Nadia and Olga are like the classic Queens, but, Svetlana is the Queen of "modern" gymnastics.

Morgan Hurd is a serious improvement over last years American girls as far as artistry is concerned and I think McKusker has all the qualities to be artistic, just needs good choreo to show it off. Sure the more famous Americans are some of the worst offenders for lack of artistry but so are some of the more famous Romanians and last years Chinese girls, even some Russians have let themselves go.

Of all the active gymnasts I've seen, she was the absolute best. No one compares to her. She had grace, she had poise, she had elegance, she was fiery and she was no-nonsense in her approach to her craft. She might have been the biggest diva of her sport, but she was a genius, an innovator.

I agree Bogi and Khorkina are the best artistically. Bogi is THE ultimate performer... she was tall and crazy difficult skills were hard. Khorkina was brilliant in making skills to fit her tallness. My top two (1) Bogi (2) Khorkina.

They could be in rebuilding mode because there pre head coaches Arkiav and Belu left and they both had to rebuild there system on how they train. Yes Izbasa's gold medal is one to remember :)

@Dancing24 Its funny that you think about Liukin like a dancer when she is not. Her choreo its all about poses, beautiful poses of course but its only that. Khorkina's routines in 1995 and 2000 only to mention few of them can show you about real dancing and artistry

anastasia lesenkia Yup,also Mustafina's attitude towards her teammates is still better and her sportsmanship.
Idk, Khorkina gave up her event final spot in 2000 so her team mate could have a chance at gold. I think she's just super passionate and wants Russia to win medals more than anything, including more than winning for just herself. She has said some pretty unsportsmanlike things too though so I'm not sure.
Mustafina is great artistry wise but she's hit and miss with the choreo, like 2015 and 2016 wasn't that great.

idk ... I have just never seen what many do. she is just too thin and gangly looking. I appreciate her constructing routines around her height and she is absolutely amazingly talented. I just could never enjoy watching her.
that's just her body frame. For being so thin and 5' 5" or 5' 6" she seemingly towers over most female gymnasts. For her height she is amazing at having been able to do these skills. where she found the power in that body. IDK. I'm a US fan as I'm from the USA of course my whole life but Svetlana was the first International Gymnast that I wanted to see in competition just for being different. And I did so (as well as wanting to see Vanessa Atler and Dominique Dawes) at the 1998 Goodwill Games. 💜 She was just AMAZING on bars as usual. Her body can take away from those who like just power power power. But I appreciate both power and artistry. And looking like you are having a good time on floor exercise like she always did is beautiful. You can tell she's so passionate about her passion - Artistic Gymnastics. She was told that she should do rhythmic gymnastics for her height when she was young but refused like crazy and insisted she wanted to flip and tumble not just dance. She may not be the most power and maybe she is lanky. But she exhibited beauty, grace, and power. She is one of the greats whether u can't see it or not. And to go in the sport at such a high level for so many years. well I give her all the props in the world. in she is far from my favorite all time international gymnasts as of today. But she would probably STILL challenge for event final medals today (not on floor or vault) but on Bars definitely and possibly beam even with her old routines. She is one of the best artistic gymnasts ever. Not even the biggest hater can deny that if they have any historical knowledge of the sport.
