I got into jazz guitar from my classical guitar teacher. He told me to get the Johnny Smith approach to guitar. I also have many of Johnny Smith's recording, and i have to say he was an amazing player. A frequent visitor to Birdland NYC on nights Johnny Smith played was Charlie Parker.
Great, like always. But when it comes to minor blues, I think you have omitted very important song - Oliver Nelson's "Stolen Moments". Maybe next lesson?
It is C# minor. I can understand that C minor is easier, however, on the guitar, because of nature of the instrument it does not make too much of a difference technically speaking, so why not respect the original key of the tune?
@@stephenpepper1790 Yes that is true, instead I should have said Coltrane played it in C#min but I'm going to teach it in Cmin because all Real Books and such, are in Cmin. It is rarely played in C#min for that reason. In addition, it is meant to be a guitar chord melody arrangement which is a lot more guitar friendly in Cmin. 🙂
Thanks. Looking forward to playing around with this one.

one of my favorite songs to jam to...love that Peerless... ( I've had a Monarch for years) they are such a great value!! Great lesson.
This is great - more like this please!
Thanks! 4 more of these minor blues coming in the next month.
Thanks again Richie, another great video. BTW, love the Peerless archtop, it looks and sounds a real honey. Cheers.
Very rich tones at work here, nice interpretation and very accessible. Thank You...! B-)
Thank you kindly!
Great sound on this, and very cool key.. C minor is THE key to play in. I'm on board.
01:17 another cool solo
Love it, Richie!
Thanks William!
Done well...

That's a great tune but too difficult for most when it comes to playing the chord melody version, so I didn't include it.
C# minor, isn't it?

definitley C# minor. Almost every lessonon this song are in C minor, I guess its easier to think about; no sharps or flats and all that......
@@pzarelli75 C minor has three flats. C# minor is indeed the original key. 4 sharps or 5 when playing dorian on the I chord.
@@RichieZellon it’s C sharp minor. Listen to the record that you referenced.
