Hey guys, if you remember a Purifier campaign in the past, you are right! We did play one. This seems to be VERY different though, so I hope that is okay.
Played through this recently. Yeah you're gonna have a time, it is definitely balanced for your level of play. Have fun with the new mechanics! Edit: Also lol, I applaud your ability to make things hard for yourself, but there was an entire extra section on the left of the map that let you bypass the extra protoss structures. It's not the first time that the mod adds extra parts of the map, so be careful of that in future! Don't wanna miss content, do ya?
I'm wondering how long it'll take him to notice the heal aura on the nexus, there were a few times he could've noticed on mission 2, but I think mission 3 is where you really can't miss it, but we'll see.
I do adore basically every Faction Swap I watch you go through Grant, all the moreso hearing what you opened this video with- that there's mission layout and goal changes. Just starting the video, but looking forward- Already sure this is gonna be a good time.
One thing I`ve noticed is that separation of the enemy players like red and blue zerg on the first mission and that little base of the yellow zerg. Love it. And also while Grant was destroying the yellow`s base they actually were trying to rebuild and stuff. I hope it stays like this, cause it gives vibes of the first StarCraft campaigns. I actually hate the thing where the enemy just spawns a 200 limit attack waves out of nowhere in LotV especially and in coop too, it is much more interesting to me to fight an AI that I know going to build stuff from the production structures and going to suffer from supply blocks and so on.
Amith puts a lot of effort into his campaigns, as far as I recall this is exactly the case, if you can kill an enemy base it won't be sending attack waves anymore. Be warned though, they can be real hard to bust, guarded by stronger hybrid and other elite units hanging out in wait
Weirdly enough, I forgot about how much protoss coasted on supplies their ancestors stashed away just in case. And how their split four ways to sunday society made it harder to kill them.
Amith is such an awesome modmaker. I swear if this is even half as fun as the enhanced swarm or revolution overdrive, then amith officially would have made my 3 most favorite sc2 mods (i also love the perpetual randomizer lol)
@@CalebStearns I’ve been playing the betas. it’s really good. got stuck on the second mission for forever trying to hunt for the bonus objective because I was blind though lol
For Aiur is so much my favorite mission. It might be a big A-move, but it's so cinematic while showcasing what you will get later. In my book, it's how a first mission should be done.
Hey Grant. Wanna give a polite correction, but the adept were even better than you read. Unless you simply misspoke while reading. But the adepts gain up to a maximum of 13 shield REGEN and up to 50 maximum shields, making them pretty damn bulky for ranged mineral only units.
And that's just one of the variants, the others have different bonuses which can be just as good. They're an excellent mineral dump, far better than standard Zealots.
Having the Instigator as a Dragoon feels wrong yet somehow right when you think of it lore wise XD also, the first mission was insane, I'm so ready for more of this ❤
@darkregin2 the Stalker was originally a Nerazim invention, inspired by the Dragoons that reached Shakuras after the Protoss escaped from Aiur. For that reason, the Instigator being based on the stalker model breaks a bit of canon there. Being based on Dragoons would make more sense, though the fact they don't technically need the tech per se (since they can just relocate their AIs through their imitation of the Khala) is still quite odd XD
@@Terry_T_ODST At least the dragoon variant actually makes _a lot_ of sense for canon Purifiers. They don't "need" it, but their creators might have designed more different platforms in the image of their own living warriors, potentially including dragoons, high templar and even archons as all of those were venerated in their own ways. Or, even if they didn't, the Purifiers themselves could have decided to do that for pretty much the same reason. They aren't evil killbots after all, and without the past mistreatment they'd probably even feel fine as "just" symbolic representations rather than true equals. Plus from a purely utilitarian perspective I'm not sure there were any ranged foot soldiers they could have copied instead to fill that combat role (adepts are SC2 era not from the time when the original Purifiers were created).
"You do Mindhawk's Challenge Gauntlet and you instantly become the greatest gamer of all time." Yeah, we worked SO HARD in Twitch Trolls Grant and you overcame most of them on your first go.
It is a large extended family... Which i now need to see in a mod. Perhaps Memes covert ops. When you fight Blightbringer it is actually Blightbringers family reunion.
I was about to make a "Giant Factionswap Games" joke but then you mentioned completely revamped missions and this sounds absolutely awesome... not that I mind just factionswaps or anything lol
Aeon of Purification is easily one of my favorite modded campaigns out all those ever produced by the community. Super fun faction to play, really neat abilities and interactions between units, and some _very_ intriguing and engaging map changes. I'm looking forward to seeing how Grant plays through it and what he thinks of it!
I've always wondered one thing about the lore here. When the overmind died and kerrigan took over, why didn't she assume control of Aiur, the best and richest planet we know off in the sector?
Even the original Overmind was not fully able to reclaim zerg turned feral by the violent death of their commander. We outright eradicate the brood of Zasz after his death in the zerg campaign under the direct command of the Overmind. I don't think it's ever fully explained _why_ this happens or how it can be rectified (after all we do see Kerrigan reclaiming _some_ feral zerg, those on Kaldir were assigned to a Broodmother rather than a Cerebrate though so they might have already evolved new methods for it) but it stands to reason Kerrigan would need to spend a significant amount of time on Aiur personally taking control of the zerg there. And that would immediately cause the protoss to throw absolutely everything they have at her, as in not just a war fleet off to Char like in Omega but straight up every single combat-capable Khalai protoss running right at her. Also, zerg troop reserves aside, Aiur might not be the "best" or "richest" option _for the zerg_ based on what we see. Kerrigan can't really use protoss tech, she wouldn't be able to assimilate the protoss even if she managed to capture any, as a "highly developed" planet there won't be many powerful forms of wildlife, and we don't know exactly how many usable resources are hoarded on Aiur but taking a dozen uninhabited or virtually uncontested worlds surely is a better deal than picking a fight with one of the few truly threatening factions on their (former) home turf. In hindsight the Spear of Adun most likely would have completely obliterated Kerrigan and her forces had she approached Aiur for feral reclamation purposes rather than with an already fully equipped invasion force.
@@Photoloss The death of Zasz sent the overmind into a catatonic state, where he was unable to create a new cerebrate or exert control over Garm brood before they would rampage thru the hive cluster, so Daggoth and Kerrigan took the reins of the sitch and eliminated Garm Brood. The overmind comes to in the very next briefing.
Ah, you're finally playing this! I love Amith's mods, they are the most fun faction swaps/edits I've played in SC2. I can't wait for his WoL mod to be finished.
For those who dont know this mod was created by Amith, the creator of Enhanced Swarm. The campaign reworks the entirety of the legacy of the void campaign, INCLUDING Prologue & Epilogue. If grant does skip the Prologue, I do hope he plays the Epilogue as it completely remakes the missions.
"Purification is at hand!" - Purifier Sentinel The Purifiers in this campaign being this fleshed out is really cool and I'm excited for how units like the High Templar, Dark Templar, and Void Ray are done in this mod.
Yea, i saw it too at the minimap i think thats a shortcut directly to the objective so you can skip the zerg base and not accidentally destroy the protoss buildings
Not sure if it was spotted in the final level of this video, but I think units regenerate hull damage while near a Nexus? There's that green radial range marker around them, and I saw a few Instigators regenerating while inside the range. Can't be 100% sure because Grant kept them mostly out fighting enemies, but it might be a huge balance point on later defense missions/early in levels.
I am so looking forward to playing this! Enhanced Swarm is my new fav HOTS mod and this is already looking to be probably my fav LOTV one (although Real Scale will always have the number one spot for me 😁)
Love this :D That looks like so much fun! (Just a note: I know that you always take care to call out the creators, so I thought I'd let you know that I don't think you mentioned the name of the modder, just of the mod. Thank you for everything you do
I noticed something in the fight around 22:00 - it looked like Grant was able to manipulate the zerg's AI by blinking instigators forward for a single volley, then back behind the adepts. the enemies were already in range to hit the adepts, but stopped fighting for a moment after the escape blink and walked forwards a few steps without shooting, like they'd all changed targets to the instigators. I don't know if that's default behaviour with instigators/blink, but it seems like it will be a good tool to use on future missions just as a default micro loop. blink, blink, wait, stutter-step backwards until at max adept range, then repeat. Probably especially good once you unlock undying immortals, since their regen mechanic really encourages de-aggroing at low HP.
Oh boy. So! I've been trying to do this one, and I'm a much, much lower level player than you. That is to say, I don't play vs, and if I did, I'd probably be bronze. This is a mod that's definitely well suited to your skill level, and I think you'll really enjoy it, but it is very, very hard. At least for a scrub like me. Edit: Also, this mod changes the Prologue! And one tip I'll give you since I don't think you noticed on mission two, the nexus has a very slow passive healing aura, so hull damage, while a massive pain, isn't permanent so long as you get your army to a nexus to heal, or build one in the front lines like a medi-station
I continue to await the day a video is uploaded where Grant *doesn't* open up with "hello my friends"; guess I'm gonna have to wait until the next main channel video, or TTG series.
Definitely depends on the faction. A WC3 race swap with decent production value (Human Edition had some serious compatibility issues...) is very different from "Wings of Liberty, but with Co-Op Raynor". And with a completely custom faction, which these Purifiers seem to be, it's honestly more interesting than a lot of non-faction-swap campaigns. Take Archipelago for instance, an extremely impressive and very well-made project, but the gameplay Grant goes for in a lot of mid-progression missions still boils down to "do this mission with these 2-3 poorly suited vanilla unit with bad upgrades". It's _challenging_ sure, but Grant could just as easily self-impose such a challenge by playing the vanilla campaign. And the "meme" editions are little more than faction swaps too, although they do sometimes tweak the maps themselves in gameplay-meaningful ways. Also, based on the rules of the current mod funding applications, this mod probably wouldn't qualify as a "pure" faction swap because it changes map layouts, enemy loadouts (ravagers, chokers) and objectives in addition to the player units.
I wonder if the protoss buildings can be set to neutral but still produce enemy units, so that way your units don't automatically target it down even if you a-move through, however still lets you kill them if needed
It's possible to disable auto-acquire even on enemy units. Or their threat priority could be lowered so everything else gets shot first, although I'm not entirely sure that would work for a hatchery vs a photon cannon (the AI at least is smart enough to prioritise targets which can fight back, not sure to what extent idle player units respond while higher priority but non-threat targets are in range). I think at least the potential failure due to your units shooting back when left in range of a cannon is intended.
and this is why i flat out demand channel with raw unfiltered stream vod. I cant be there for your streams its in the middle of the night. i scream my lungs out every time there's cut to , stuff to difficult see you in the next video, fact that i could not see you arrive at that conclusion. i want to see 50 hours of resetst
Or even a non-meme mod, if someone happens to be working on a "terran jerks controlling zerg" setting. Sounds like the kind of name mercs would give a Cerberus infestor after strapping a laser gun to it.
Uh nice you go Fenix! But remember, purifiers to live in coexistence with the other protos, humans AND even Zerg. So... they are just neat freaks wo constantly purifie their own spaceships^^ OMF... the Purifiers are the Mass Effect Quarians^^
@@atraxian5881 If anything the Purifier lore is sort of inspired by the Geth, or a prior common source. Except to my understanding the Purifiers were deliberately created with sentience instead of developing it on their own by accident, but they were STILL treated like garbage so the protoss were just outright jerks compared to the quarians.
20:22 girls doing all the heavy lifting again smh my head ... xD I love SC1 bases, having just one gas in middle of nowhere and stuff like that made the mission progress much more interesting, WC3 and SC2 have the same "heres your main, oh look expansion right next to it"
Mod makers improve at a rate big game developers can only dream about. I know partially it's thanks to a Starcraft 2 engine being super solid and convenient, but still. Mods this days are awesome, and even lack the characteristic mod-type junkiness the old ones always had. I'm happy to see them, but in a way it reminds me every time how blizzard buried so many of their goldmine franchises. It wasn't easy, but they had the persistancy.
Didn't you say yesterday that you were sick of faction swaps..? I'm not trying to catch you out here, I just want you to be doing things you wanna do! I'll watch almost anything if it's you doing it, man, you're just a nice and fun guy. :) This campaign looks RAD AS HELL though, so like. If you saw it and went "okay yeah this one looks cool anyway" then I am 100% here for it
You really should have explored the map a bit more - especially west side from the first zerg base. There's a nice little shortcut that would have saved you a lot of pain.
Pretty sure NCO and Co-Op featured the Blightbringer well before the multiplayer campaign with Dowadiru was released. The model has existed since before WoL release, as it's an older infestor design they originally kept in the files under the name "Fatty".
@Photoloss I am aware it's "vanilla" model used for many mods including some arcade game modes I used to play when I was younger but it is and will be dowadiru for me :3
When/where does dowadiru show up I'm sc2, isnt it just Blightbringer? I've seen Grant and the community bring it up for what feels like years, but I have no idea what they're talking about.
@@ohb54 it's for heart of the swarm coop version when 1 player plays as kerrigan, 2nd as niadra or Zagara or other swarm queen and 3rd as dowadiru himself
It may be a bug in the sense that they shouldn't interact. But what they did was shoot at the air units Grant was fighting, acting completely normal in that context.
Also I'm willing to come out and defend grant on the tooltips tbh. It is kind of boring to watch 2 minutes of reading tooltips, especially on mission 1 where you know you're about to lose access to all of those units anyway before the main campaign's drip feed begins. I think it's perfectly reasonable to only skim read them before the units are properly unlocked in their main missions.
"undying" - it what immortal will become in Google Translate Edition. Seriously someone should make it for StarCraft (not even with AI generated voice, just old janky text to speech)

Or even a non-meme mod, if someone happens to be working on a "terran jerks controlling zerg" setting. Sounds like the kind of name mercs would give a Cerberus infestor after strapping a laser gun to it.
THE RETURN OF BRIGHTBLINGER!!!!!!!
Uh nice you go Fenix! But remember, purifiers to live in coexistence with the other protos, humans AND even Zerg. So... they are just neat freaks wo constantly purifie their own spaceships^^ OMF... the Purifiers are the Mass Effect Quarians^^
Difference is Quarians need to keep their environment clean literally to not get killed by the common cold.
Ooohh! I played and finished this one. I hope you like it!
20:22 girls doing all the heavy lifting again smh my head ... xD
I love SC1 bases, having just one gas in middle of nowhere and stuff like that made the mission progress much more interesting, WC3 and SC2 have the same "heres your main, oh look expansion right next to it"
THE PURIFIER SITUATION IS CRAZY
Mod makers improve at a rate big game developers can only dream about. I know partially it's thanks to a Starcraft 2 engine being super solid and convenient, but still. Mods this days are awesome, and even lack the characteristic mod-type junkiness the old ones always had.
I'm happy to see them, but in a way it reminds me every time how blizzard buried so many of their goldmine franchises. It wasn't easy, but they had the persistancy.
Mind hawk challenge gauntlet is like hitting the Gym for missions. An coming back jacked
Those Colossi are nuts.
That looks like a cool faction :o
Looks like Nexus has a passive repair aura
This looks very cool :)
"I'm going to start telling easily disprovable lies" Grant not so subtly telling us he's going into politics.
Didn't you say yesterday that you were sick of faction swaps..? I'm not trying to catch you out here, I just want you to be doing things you wanna do! I'll watch almost anything if it's you doing it, man, you're just a nice and fun guy. :)
This campaign looks RAD AS HELL though, so like. If you saw it and went "okay yeah this one looks cool anyway" then I am 100% here for it
You really should have explored the map a bit more - especially west side from the first zerg base. There's a nice little shortcut that would have saved you a lot of pain.
In the name of the emperor,
we purify.
The nexus has a passive repair beam aura that you missed
Yay! Dowadiru is back! How nice of the creator of this mod
@TheAzorg thank you!
AOP includes the Prologue too
Impossible! Proper pathing and micro-able dragoons on Aiur!
Frickin auto storming Colossus seem incredibly strong and cool. I wish I owned lotv to play this myself.
Also, Protoss Necromancers???
Nexus appeared to have an aoe heal ability for units in range of the big circle
I briefly saw an instigator healing near your base at one point. Do pylons or the nexus provide a regeneration aura or something?
Take a shot every time Grant fails to pronounce Blightbringer.
it may have helped to wait & let your healers heal before going on
7:42 Those phoenix'es just did a 360 while flying by.... is this how they work or was that a bug?
It may be a bug in the sense that they shouldn't interact. But what they did was shoot at the air units Grant was fighting, acting completely normal in that context.
Also get used to nyduses spawning behind your back without warning.
Also I'm willing to come out and defend grant on the tooltips tbh. It is kind of boring to watch 2 minutes of reading tooltips, especially on mission 1 where you know you're about to lose access to all of those units anyway before the main campaign's drip feed begins. I think it's perfectly reasonable to only skim read them before the units are properly unlocked in their main missions.
wow buddy, the defillers have instant burrow.. i guess that means all zerg have the instant unborrow/burrow
This campaign is awesome when I played it, felt like it actively discouraged F2 in later missions…
It most definitely does the later missions require quite a bit of multitasking
did I see it right that nexus has a reconstruction beam?
or more like AOE heal in certain range
That you didn't say "Blinkstigators" angers me greatly. I'm disappointed Grant. Very disappointed.
I was hoping to make Kaldalis and the AIs
the starcraft engine can do a lot of great things, but the particle effects in this are stretching it to the limit
I wonder if Grant will ever try out a Blitz Archipelago race vs other content creators.
Uhhh if you ever need healing, the nexus have a heal ability but its pretty slow
i am still waiting for somebody to create a Essence of the swarm mod where you get coop primal zergs
I seem to have missed something, how was the hatchery left alive helping Grant?
Chokepoint blocking enemy zealots while his ranged units shoot them.
blink dragoons feel wrong. its like they patched out the stalker forever
Is it different to the Legacy of the Purifier?
Apparently looking at the colossus just confirms that it is indeed different.
Please god, give us the Ombudsman again
Is this mod available for the mod manager?
Who's Blightbringer? I only know Dowadiru.
Nydus me once.... Shame on you. Nydus me twice... Won't be nydus'd again.
"undying" - it what immortal will become in Google Translate Edition.
Seriously someone should make it for StarCraft (not even with AI generated voice, just old janky text to speech)
I need creat 6 7 gate and frontline nexus to beat this mission 2 in normal.
Giant just crash the road like nothing in brutal.
More please
