    Roy Khan's era of Kamelot was incredible, a classically trained male opera singer joining a symphonic metal band is a match made in heaven.

      I totally agree and add that Roy Khan is one of the very few singer I've heard who sounds even better live than in studio recordings with mastering and everything.
      An absolutely wonderful singer in my opinion.

    Kamelot is still around and thriving. Roy left for health reasons. Tommy Karevik took over for vocals in 2012. Their newest album, "The Awakening," came out this year. The newest music video from it is "Eventide".

    I think you should check out Simone Simons separately. Because she's amazing. And definitely something from fresh performances, not old ones. For example this: Epica - Unleashed (live at the AFAS live 2023) ✌️

    • @wildhoney126
      @wildhoney126 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @s1mperadicator13 Well, actually, Simone's vocals are really few in this song, there's not much point in focusing on her. That's why I say that her live vocals need to be analyzed separately. and the vocals are not from old 20-year-old performances, like this show, but from modern performances.

    Oh my gosh. You've opened Pandora's Box with Kamelot. I LOVE Kamelot... the current lead, but, especially, Roy Khan. I discovered Kamelot over two decades ago, so I am a die-hard Roy fan. And, yes, Roy is classically trained! He is currently back with the band he sang with prior to Kamelot, called Conception. At least, last I heard.
    This video is from One Cold Winter's Night... as was Elizabeth (thoroughly enjoyed that reaction!)
    The entire concert was AMAZING. And this live performance is much better than the 'official video', in my opinion.
    So now I have a request. Please do 'Abandoned' from this concert! I love your reactions. I particularly enjoy reaction videos from those within the music industry, or with real musical or singing talent, who are checking out genres that are not their typical 'cup of tea' lol.
    Anxiously waiting.... lol 😊

    Roy Khan also sings on the song Lost Children of the Universe, on the Star One album in 2021 (a project by Arjen Anthony Lucassen). In Ayreon projects, one of the vocalists is Tommy Karevik, who is now lead singer for Kamelot.

    When the album/official music video for this song came out in 2004, it was my first time hearing Simone.. I don't think she'd created Epica just yet.
    After Roy Khan burned out, Tommy Karevik took over, and Kamelot is still around today. Roy eventually returned to his old band Conception, so he's still making music.

    FYI: Retrospect is the 3rd live album by Dutch symphonic metal band Epica in celebration of their tenth anniversary. The recorded live show took part in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Because of the great demand by international fans, Epica announced a live stream, called the Retrostream, on March 4, 2013. Epica performed on stage with the same orchestra that accompanied Epica in the recording of the live album The Classical Conspiracy: the 70-piece Extended Hungarian Remenyi Ede Chamber Orchestra and the Choir of Miskolc National Theatre.

    So Kamelot is still touring, just saw the last show of their US Tour at the Hard rock Cafe in Orlando, Florida. It was bar none the best live performance I have seen to date at every level, and I'm 46 and have seen most of the greats, from Maiden to Queensryche in the metal world, and Bob Dylan to Tina Turner, otherwise. The particular point you make about the impeccable vocal delivery in this video was my feeling thought the whole concert. As a singer myself, all great singers I have scrutinized as a student live have slight imperfections, sections you see them struggle and maybe not be spot on. Tommy was impeccable, as well as everyone else in the band, and Melissa Bony that filled the female role in the concert is the best thing in metal since Floor Jansen. You need check this new line up out. This link is from their new album with Melissa Bony, get ready because besides a great voice she will feast your eyes! Cheers!

    I thought I had seen Epica reactions on your channel before, but a quick search now didn't reveal any! Can that really be the case, or have you deleted some videos?
    Assuming you are new to Epica, you have a lot of video watching to get through! I encourage you to always prefer the "Retrospect 2013" versions of any songs people request (when possible), since that was their special 10th anniversary concert with a full orchestra and choir, whereas their normal concerts have those things playing off a backing track for obvious economic reasons.
    Some songs you should definitely include:
    * Unleashed (thumping rock song)
    * Tides of Time (one of the best rock ballads of all time, basically a classical aria from our time)
    * Skeleton Key (one of their newer songs, proggy, look for the Omega Alive version, which was their pandemic project, a concert without an audience but with a full stage show)

    Roy Khan was studying to be an opera singer after High School. So yes, very much trained background. He made the choice to focus on metal because he felt it was a good way to utilize all his vocal skills.

    You definitely should dive into Simone's vocals from some live Epica performance. For example Unleashed - Live at AFAS live or Sancta Terra live from the Retrospect. You can also see a more theatrical side of her vocals on Ayreon - Daniel's Descent into Transitus, where she sings with the current Kamelot lead singer.

    Kamelot is still together, but with a different singer. As Roy was also a co-songwriter, they sound very different now without him. But he is with the band Conception now, eho he was with before Kamelot in the 90s, and I would love to see you check out something by them - it would be cool if you did Silent Crying and then Silent Crying 2.0, a new stripped down version recorded almost 30 years later.

    #suggestion: On the channel of the Barbershop Harmony Society, there's a new version of Ylvis's silly pop song "Stonehenge" , sung here by the quartet "The Newfangled Four". I know, this sounds like it should never work, but the arranger did a marvelous job, the quartet sings amazing tags, and the overall result is as hilarious as it is musically brilliant.

    Very skilled/accomplished vocalist who can easily put a ton of character into his phrases. So why am I not feeling this? Simone was a very nice addition here, but nothing spectacular. She's steadily gained in vocal power/performance throughout the years. With the Ayreon Live Beneath The Waves concert last September she was amazing.
    Saw her with Epica this summer and they stood out among the other acts at Summer Breeze Open Air. With Kahn dunno.. there's also something w/ his stage persona here that doesn't do it for me. Is "oversinging" a valid term, like overacting? It's all drama on each & every syllable right off the bat. Vocal skills are superb tho w/o a doubt. Cheers!
