    Incredible flying machine that will never be matched. Old school design at its best.

    Mooney should seriously consider a transportation company like Kerrville Bus Company did, and training a thousand pilots nation-wide. They could easily be the next generation public/private transportation. The R&D folks in California hopefully will always stay true to the German aircraft influence, inverted tail section and maximum performance.

    He said that the Mooney is the fastest production piston aircraft ever, not sure if it would outrun all models of the Piper Aerostar. The 700 models of the Aerostar, had a 260kt cruise speed.

    The Acclaim is truly a bucket list "must have"...now for scrounging up the clams, hmm?! I surely hope they come out of the recent tailspin! The big focus has to be getting the cost down from $700k to a realistic number in the $400k range. The average working person could put money down and finance something in this price range; GA pilots are getting as rare as hens teeth and to be competitive and profitable you have to find that price point for a larger consumer base that can afford your product and are willing to part with their money for the value proposition - $700k "plus" surely is not that number. Comes down to technical design efficiency, labor, scalable manufacturing efficiency, and materials cost (i.e sourcing). God love the entire manufacturing team at Mooney, I really mean that...they have created the most amazingly beautiful and pilot-perfect plane in aviation. May better winds of fortune blow for them again.

    Nice interview. Too bad it is with a former CEO and who probably held the shortest tenure of any CEO with Mooney, lasted less than a year. As a Mooney owner, I can attest to the greatness of Mooney. However, to claim that it is the fastest piston engine airplane ever, not hardly. You could say it is the fastest single engine retractable gear piston airplane in production (lots of caveats here) but it certainly is not the fastest piston airplane ever.

      Hi Greg... We'd love to catch up with current management at Mooney and were promised the chance not too long ago... but have yet to see it happen. We'll keep you apprised.

      I was thinking, 'wait, what about the P51' when that fastest statement was made.

    • @Agwings1960
      @Agwings1960 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah if you exclude piston engine aircraft built in WW2 and stay with the civilian market, you have something like the Piper Aerostar 700 series to deal with.

      @@Agwings1960 He probably assumed people, especially pilots, were mature enough not to think that he was referring to what's obviously too ridiculous to be considered when he made that statement.

    Nice plane. Many faster piston engine aircraft. Not sure how it stacks up against the Lancair for speed. Pretty much all the piston engine fighters in ww2 were faster. Ever been to Reno? This might be one of the fastest four place single engine pistons I'm sure.

    800k for this is a joke. It's 30-40 knots faster then the rest and it doesn't bring anything else what is not out for 500k. And as they are not talking about the fuel efficiency, i expect it to be poor. Others are out with 10 gph engines and lightweight constructions for years now and are experimenting with hybrid/electric drive.

      Go buy a cirrus

    • @Eo_Tunun
      @Eo_Tunun 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have other planes cracked the rig that tested the wing for stability at the equivalent of 9g as well? ;o) Okay, that was way back when, the 230/231 Generation, I think. New Mooneys are heavier, so make that 7g. Just to be on the safe side.
      I have every bit of respect for all aircraft designers from all over the world, but it's a fact that Mooneys really have proven they are worth each and every cent. They *do* have an edge over the others when you want a fast long distance plane for up to four people.

    • @jbw9999
      @jbw9999 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why buy a much slower plane?

    • @ldmax
      @ldmax 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Continental IO-550G/N is the most efficient avgas engine available. It's the same engine the competition (Cirrus) uses. The Ovation Ultra cruises 196knots on 14gph. There's nothing that can touch it. Diamond recently announced a new version of the DA-50 that will have retractable gear and a 300hp Diesel engine. If and when it goes into production, it will be a new era in efficiency - though still slower than a Mooney.

    What hideous paint work. Listening to customers, Did your customers want horrid paint jobs.

    • @mojogrip
      @mojogrip 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Great color scheme in my opinion. The paint job makes it unique and sets it apart from other airplanes you may see on the ramp.

    • @johnnyyuma9326
      @johnnyyuma9326 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should accent the lines, not ruin them. I've been painting custom cars, bikes and what ever comes through the door for a long time, and that does not look good (My opinion), Very nice plane otherwise. I learned to fly in a Mooney, A 1963 Master converted to a Mark 21. It also has a horrible paint , still all original too.

    • @johnnyyuma9326
      @johnnyyuma9326 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is for sure. And if you go to the museum of modern art, They call that crap art too. That paint is Fugly, so is the other mooney. Even Cessna has some ugly paint With line in all directions, It looks like a 5 years old colored it. For that matter Car designers should pull head from you know what And stop making them all look the same!

    • @thething168
      @thething168 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Horrid paint jobs?... lol buy one and then paint it the way you like it. If you can afford to buy the aircraft you can afford a new paint job, otherwise you just trash-talking.
