Hey if you mess up somehow in the beginning and don’t make a jump or something , do you need to restart or can you still make up for it later in the run?

I’ve been playing Skyrim since the day it came out over a decade ago and I never knew you could kill Alain early lol
well he is a bandit in a dungeon… would be kind of silly if you could kill all the other bandits there except him
I always tought you need to get the letter with "we know" first before you get kidnapped. Killing Alain first skips that?
You have to go to sleep after the courier spawns but he doesn't have to give you the letter
