it made me very happy when you ratchet strapped that tank to the forklift. Atta boy! Also, I'd have put that crank facing the outside of the tank, then you don't have to reach over tank .
I’m not sure I got the same exact name brand, but, I bought one identical to that one off of Amazon a couple of years ago. I put it together, put gas in it, went to crank the handle to fill up my side by side, and it was stuck… locked up. I contacted the company through Amazon to get a replacement pump and they informed me to return the whole thing, that’s all they could do. This was after I just filled it up with 30 gallons of gas mind you. I syphoned all I could out of the tank into my vehicles, cleaned the gas out as best I could and shipped it back. It was a total mess. They did refund my money, so at least I got that. I hope you have better luck.
Me I welded on 2 lifting rings on both sides. This way if you have a crane like I do you can lift it off your truck, because that 30 gal take will be heavy taking it off $3.05 in west coast of tennessee
Hey Brock.. good video except you forgot the whole reason for that specific type of tank… you never connected the grounding wire to a bare metal surface of the mower when you filled. The ground wire is to prevent accidental spark which could start a fire. Much like touching the metal on your car before touching the fuel nozzle when at the gas station, especially in the winter when static electricity is more prevelant.
Same for when filling it up at the station...since the truck bed has a liner, static could build in the tank and a spark could occur at the nozzle from the pump, which would be VERY bad. That ground wire should be attached to ground when filling or emptying that cannister.
I bought a similar one (Sunoco) a couple of years ago. The hand crank went bad after a couple of months. I ended up having to put a Fill Rite hand pump on it and attach it with a coupler that has rubber gaskets. Works well now.
$5.29/gal for diesel at my MiL's house in Kalifornia. I fill up my 40 gallon tank in Nevada before driving out there so I can make it there and back without having to fuel up in that messed up state.
I bought a similar Roughneck transfer tank from Northern tool about 12 years ago. It has worked fantastic. I fill it using 5-gallon containers since I have no way to legally haul it. The construction is quite a bit better than the Vevor unit but then again it cost twice as much.
Just curious why you say you have no legal way to carry it? How big a tank do you have? You don't need any type of hazmat endorsements or markings as long as it's less that 119 gallons.
@@thebaldeagle655 I have a similar transport container as the one in this video. I don't have a truck. I have a SUV and a landscape trailer. It is illegal in PA to haul this container on a trailer. When hauling gasoline in a vehicle the containers are limited to 5-gallon cans and there is a maximum of 4 cans. I may have my numbers wrong but there is a limit on the number of small containers within a vehicle. The rules are a bit different if you have a container bolted into the bed of a pickup truck. And of course the transportation rules are completely different and less restrictive for transporting diesel fuel.
Looks pretty handy for home. When out mowing a fire is always a fear, wish there was a good tank for that, I just don’t trust it and fill up at gas stations.
I paid 2.89 last night in Etown KY 30 miles up in Louisville its 3.89.. I'm not a fan of the crank handle tanks. I just use a 14 gallon with a gravity hose and 2 old 5 gallon ones without the government approved nozzles that suck.
That looks handy. We run two mowers, each holds a little more than 5 gallons, plus a few various machines (pressure washer, push mower, etc). I get tired of hauling 5 gallon cans. I may have to consider one of these. It would greatly reduce the number of trips I make to get equipment fuel. If only the cost of 100% gas would go down!
First, thank you Brock for another good video and review. I have bought two Vevor products and was happy very with them for the money spent. Second, from some of the comments I'm reading there's some straight up haters. Maybe it's just me but if I'm critical of something or someone it should be done with respect. Just saying. Please keep up the good work 👍🏻.
Thanks for the encouragement. I don’t know how good this tank is. It might have problems in the future, but it works today and that’s all I can comment on. Actually stated in the video that it seemed to be fairly cheaply built, but it is a lower cost product than some competitors
I was looking at these last week. Thoguh right bow i am considering getting a 150-300 gallon tabk and getting gas delivered. I figure i could save some money using it to fill my vehicles, gas tractor and ATV. Still need to check in the actual price for 200-300 gallons delivered.
Nice video! Can you store that thing horizontally when it’s full of gas? I want to keep it in the back of my truck with a cover over the bed, so it wouldn’t fit standing upright. Thanks!
My wife does the lawn mowing and can not handle 5gallon cans. This unit is great, as I no longer need to fill her mower every 2-3 hours. We have 10 acres of lawn. Takes about 10 hours per week. I used wd40 on it to make it easier to turn and this caused it to leak at the pump handle. I pulled it apart and redid the seals and all is good!
That sounds like you're cutting an acre an hour. Are you using a pushroller or something similar? Unless she enjoys spending 10 hours a week cutting grass you could consider a ride on tractor or zero turn. Your wife might well enjoy it though. If I had the time to spare I can see it being a relaxing activity.
@@ruk2023-- she does enjoy it. We have a cub cadet with a 54” deck, but the yard is very bumpy so she cannot run full speed without beating her self silly.
only problem I have had in the past year is about every 3 months or so the pump would seize up. it would take me a few weeks of arguing with the company to get another cheap chinesium pump sent to me. I said screw it and went with a properly grounded system. good luck
Gas in NW Illinois right now is $3.699 I don't buy gas in Illinois unless I absolutely have to. I cross the river to Iowa (the closest 'chain' gas station to home) and save 40+ cents a gallon.Springfield gets enough of my money, without paying 40 cents extra in gas tax.
My complaint about hand cranked fuel pumps is you have to be close to what you're filling to see if you're going to overflow it or not. My Kubota L4701 has the fuel filler cap on the top of the hood, one of the few things I dislike about that tractor. Unless I want to know it's full by watching it overflow, there's just no way to monitor it while cranking the pump from the ground. That's one of the advantages of the electric units is that you've got the valve (dispenser handle) right where you're putting the fuel in.
Go to the auto wreckers ones that wreck 1 ton or bigger get a saddle tank mine comes from a 75 GMC 3 ton truck we converted to propane it has a built in pump and holds 45 gallons of gasoline used to put in my pickup and take it to the gas station to fill it Our gas per litre in Drumheller is 133. 9 which if converted to us gallons is 3.785 times that =5.06 81 Calgary is worse at1.58.9 but a used gasoline tank shouldn't cost more than 60.00 dollars
I hear ya about those gas cans. I have a weather guard 100gal diesel tank and 3 5gal gas cans. I wanted the one they sell at Atwoods its a 14gal with nozzle like a gas pump but the price is a little high for me. Bought gas this morning at 2.99. Got some yesterday for 3.06. But the gas prices vary in my area drastically. From 2.99 to 3.49 just for regular gas (that's 10% eth) not the (real 100%gas) stuff.
The front wheels are too small. They screw into small spot welded nuts . Mine bent & the weld broke. The gas gauge never worked. As you can see the pump is hard to crank., (Notice the crank position change). The rear wheels on mine would not turn freely when the axle nut was tight. . I tossed the pump and gauge, Replaced the front wheels with 3" casters. ( Metric size 10 shank ) Big washers and double nuts. Rounded the shoulder on the axles so they'd not contact the hub and got a battery powered pump with custom extension and check valve. It now rolls good & the DC Volt transfer pump is SOOooooo much better.
you almost can't these days the stupid ethanol draws moisture but as long as it's vented right it shouldn't be that bad plus u can always put a water block fuel filter on it which he probably should
Is it DOT approved to haul this fuel tank in your vehicle? I think your State Patrol may not give you the stamp of approval. I do have a similar tank that I fill at home with cans.
I didn’t do any research on this, but when I looked previously, I was thinking any portable container under 50 gallons can be hauled without special consideration. The caveat being a metal tank with gasoline should have a ground strap I could be wrong.
doesn't look like it has the DOT blessing just looking at the reviews it looks like a piece of junk 3 out of 5 stars and nothing but pictures of either broken parts or fuel leaking out of it I'd Stay away from this thing
I also recommend putting the container in a front corner of the truck bed. Reason is, you always have control of how you accelerate BUT you can't control the stop sometimes. Not a good result if that tank breaks loose and shifting forwards.
Howdy Brock! Yeah, people don't appreciate how important it is to ground gasoline transfer tanks like that. The flashpoint of gasoline is right around -50 degrees F, while diesel is closer to 130 degrees F. One of the few things I remember from my days as a career firefighter lol. The chances of a spark igniting gasoline vapor at room temperature are there (you still have to have the right mixture of fuel and oxygen), the chances of a static charge igniting diesel vapor at room temperature are slim to none - mainly because diesel vapor doesn't naturally occur at room temps. And before the keyboard commandos jump in... YES it is possible, just not probable. It is possible to get struck by lightning twice in the same day... but it isn't probable lol. We never shut down the firetrucks or ambulances when we fueled them, and if you go to any truck stop many drivers do not shut down while fueling. Interesting to see how your tank holds up for you. Thanks for sharing 🤠 EDIT: After reading some of the comments on here, wanted to add the following... using a larger tank designed for diesel to store gasoline can be dangerous. A couple of gallons of fuel in a 5 gallon plastic container easily demonstrates how different the flashpoints are. A 15 degree increase in temperature and the gasoline container starts to bulge from the interior pressure. You can have an 80 degree increase in temperature and as long as the ambient temp isn't exceeding that 130 degrees, the same amount of diesel won't affect the same plastic container at all. I went out to my shop this spring to top off my gas and diesel 5 gallon cans and the gas one dang near looked like a basketball lol.
u should have stuck with your original setup and not listen to the people on here the vevor tank is basically the same thing u already had but lower quality. i did the same thing you originally done with the 2 50 gallon tanks and its the best thing i ever did no more gas cans lol
Running gas in a diesel-only rated tank is foolish. First, you're assuming the materials in the tank, pump, hose, and dispenser handle are ethanol compatible, and as ANYONE who has owned a gas powered piece of equipment knows, ethanol will eat anything rubber. Second, diesel vapor is far less flammable than gas vapor. Unless there's a proper ground between the tank and the dispenser handle, there is the potential for static charge build up, which is a fire hazard. The pump motor must be ignition proof, either in a rated housing or using a brushless motor, otherwise, just like the sparking you see on an electric drill, it's an ignition source. Lastly, tank venting is different between diesel and gasoline. Brock's tank is outdoors so it's not much of an issue, but in an enclosed area, an improperly vented tank can lead to gasoline fumes, which can be ignited by a flipping a light switch if the air/fuel mixture is correct. But if it's worked for you keep doing it. If it doesn't, I'm sure we'll read about you in the obit section.
@@JCWren ok safety Sally you mean I shouldn't pump my fuel through a garden hose? lol yea all his stuff and my stuff is rated to pump gasoline the only thing that techincally isn't is the tank itself cause the govt doesn't like you hauling gasoline down the road in those tanks so how is the cheap amazon tank different than one you'd by from the farm store thats "diesel only"
You shouldn't buy gas for your farm from a gas station. That puts you paying the highway tax, and you shouldn't pay that since you AREN'T using it for highway transportation purposes. Setup your tanks on your farm and have your fuel delivered if possible.
Thats cool i should get one northwest minnesota near the border gas is 3.39 a gallon but we have a bunch of democrats in charge in st.paul so go figure
It came in the bag with the pump. The instructions specifically tell you to put it on those threads. There is even a picture of the pump and the bottle in the set up guide
Over priced and doesn't solve any problems. You put gas in 2 self propelled pieces of equipment that could have been easily driven to you stationary dispenser. It has to be completely empty to get it in the back of a truck. Its 50 pounds empty. At 260 pounds full, most people don't have a way to get it out of the truck. Ramps? Yeah, I'd watch that show. You'd still have to use equipment to put in your truck to get it to the sawmill and again to take it out. I got 55 gallon fuel barrels for free and I already had a hand truck to move them if necessary and I fill and empty the transfer barrel the same day and easily get it out of the truck by hand.

@@Sgt.k everyone does even if they dont. 1 more year and I am out if this communist stare.
Some why don't you just put a ground wide on white tank? After having for months, WTF . Paint is red if it makes you feel better?
Think the most important part is that it's in a well ventilated area!
u should have stuck with your original setup and not listen to the people on here the vevor tank is basically the same thing u already had but lower quality. i did the same thing you originally done with the 2 50 gallon tanks and its the best thing i ever did no more gas cans lol
@@JCWren ok safety Sally you mean I shouldn't pump my fuel through a garden hose? lol yea all his stuff and my stuff is rated to pump gasoline the only thing that techincally isn't is the tank itself cause the govt doesn't like you hauling gasoline down the road in those tanks so how is the cheap amazon tank different than one you'd by from the farm store thats "diesel only"
If it’s UL-142 listed it can be used for gasoline. The fact is that the tanks are made of metal.
You shouldn't buy gas for your farm from a gas station. That puts you paying the highway tax, and you shouldn't pay that since you AREN'T using it for highway transportation purposes. Setup your tanks on your farm and have your fuel delivered if possible.
Paid $3.79/gallon two days ago 🤢
👍🏼🤠 5/7/23
Thats cool i should get one northwest minnesota near the border gas is 3.39 a gallon but we have a bunch of democrats in charge in st.paul so go figure
Dude just put locktite as thread sealer…..😮
It came in the bag with the pump. The instructions specifically tell you to put it on those threads.
There is even a picture of the pump and the bottle in the set up guide
Those hand cranks are absolutely worthless you'll be getting rid of that believe me.
$2.69
This has terrible reviews I actually considered getting one for a secondary fuel station. Broken cranks, leaks, locked up pumps, more leaks..
The only thing I don’t like about it is it is hard to refill
@@RockhillfarmYT yeah not ideal it seems but I got excited because it’s basically $175 now but after looking at the reviews I’m not convinced.
