    Enjoy watching your channel. We recently purchased a 2010 Forest River Georgetown. We’ve encountered several repair items. You channel has helped immensely. This week we replaced the front Dometic AC, went ahead and upgraded from the 13,500 to the 15,000. Thinking about adding a micro-air soft start to it.

      One it was cheaper going that route. Second I installed a digital box and Stat from domedic and the Stat had issues off the bat. It would work with cover off but not with it on. The suburban gas heater would try starting as soon as I plugged it in the box. So sent it back got another one and it did work. I decided to add another domedic AC to my fifthwheel ductless had to buy control box and Stat for it to work. I had seen someone do it so I gave it a try and it's works great. I did move the domedic control box and Stat to run the new unit cause I liked the larger residential Stat and it worked great with the heater also. And it was cheaper to buy those parts than buy the domedic digital box and stat.my fan quit working just as the one in your video read a lot on the domedic digital box and Stat and they were mostly bad. The stat more than the box. The only thing is you have to use the domedic a analog wiring harness to put in the colman box. The colman box is cheap and the residential stats are cheap cause all you want is a basic stat. I have seen where people use the new Nest WiFi stat but that's a little to far for a RV I think.

      Might buy the digital upgrade off season as i see it comes with the 3 wire thermostat according to dometic.

    Son, it is EXTREMELY easy to "hook-up" a "Residential" Tstat to a 12vdc RV system. I've had an Ecobee Digital hooked to my Colman Mach8 for years, no problem.
    2 speed fan on roof, ducted overhead to entire house. Gas furnace with it's own fan and ducted under floor to whole house.
    Make, Model or Manufacture mean nothing for the original or digital upgrade.
    If you wanna know how, just ask. 🙂

    • @hillbillyrv

      Thats a different model. The controls are probably preinstalled, but he will have to run communication wire and change thermostat. That looks like just a phone wire, but Dometic told me that it is wired different from a phone cord, so he needs to get that from Dometic. It would have been WAY easier to stick with the same model that he took off.

    I ordered a control box for my Dometic unit that has to hook up ports 1 for the AC power and the second one I am guessing for the digital t-stat the only problem is it came without the harness ,but the new control box has all the wires integrated instead of the wires harness , so I am little confused about it the fact that the control kit itself has two hook up ports.

      I will answer you here, so you won't be getting a call from me. I didn't show that in much detail because I don't want to get anybody hurt. You should be able to take a muti meter and figure out where your 120 volt AC is and jumper power to the fan and compressor to see if they run. If you don't have a meter or you are completely in the dark right now, do yourself a favor and hire someone else to do this.

    @davidsine4390 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a digital unit exactly as you installed in your video. Same exact Dometic digital thermostat. My unit works fine on A/C cool until it reaches the temp. selected at the thermostat. The A/C unit will then turn off...Both the compressor and fan turn off. Then after about 3 seconds, the fan and compressor will cycle back on again. After it comes back on, It will run for approximately 5 minutes or so, then cycle off for 3 seconds, then back on again. It will continue to repeat that process until you select off at the thermostat. If you set the temp all the way down to its lowest setting, it will run normally continuously without cycling on and off until you freeze to death. Would you replace the thermostat first and see if that fixes it? Or would you buy the kit you installed and replace both the control box and thermostat together and hopefully correct the issue that way? I don't beleive I can return the thermostat if I get it by itself and the problem persists. Or, would you simply invest in a nice down parka and keep the thermostat selected at its lowest setting and run the A/C continuously? My trailer is 3 years old. I bought it used recently so I have no idea if it always did this since new or not. But I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to do what it's doing obviously. Plus I believe it could damage the compressor if allowed to cycle this way. Thanks in advance and for your video. Very helpful.

    • @hillbillyrv
      @hillbillyrv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hillbillyrv So here's the long version. I purchased the replacement kit from a local RV dealer. I replaced the control box and the thermostat. The unit then developed a completely different problem. The compressor and fan run, but will not turn off no matter what you set the temperature to, (no cycling). Parka still needed. I replaced the new thermostat with the old one. The original problem with the old thermostat returned, (cycling). I ran new wires directly from the controller box to the thermostat and retried both thermostats. I knew it wouldn't fix it but what else am I doing right? Or course new wires made absolutely no difference. Each thermostats own particular problem remained. After going a few rounds with the RV dealer and their tech telling me it wasn't the thermostat, I finally talked them out of exchanging the new thermostat from the kit I bought from them for another new thermostat they had in stock. I installed the second new thermostat and the issue is now completely resolved. I might add that IMO, the technical aspect of how this system works is sound. The thermostat hardware itself is garbage. Especially since you have to shut off the thermostat just to read the inside temperature along with all the other complaints all over the internet with this and other issues. Engineers are a different breed. Once again, thank you for your input and video. Extremely helpful.

      for 2 ACs, Of course you will need 2 digital control boxes with T-stats and You will need 12 volt + and ground up at the ACs and you will have to run at least 3 wires from control box to T-stat.

    I need to also change my new Brisk Air 2 unit to digital. My MFG# is B57915.711CO. I noticed on the box you showed on the video, it had the B57915. Would this be the same unit I need or do I need to also figure out the .711CO part? Thank you for the video!

      As long as you are replacing a single zone analog t stat, this part should work. Check out my Amazon link. You will find them there.

    Fantastic job! Can you help me out with how I hookup this thermostat? I had an older dometic ac like this unit but I only have 4 wires coming from old ac unit to old bi-metal thermostat (red, green, white, blue) and the heavy romex wire (black. White, bye copper). I have a new 15,000 btu dometic penguin ac, furnace, heat pump I just put up on roof and not sure how to hookup because there was no ground on other thermostat for furnace and this new unit does not have a control box its built into unit. Any help would be appreciated. :-)

    I installed this same system in my RV. What a pain in my backside! Thermostat is stupid. I have to set on 80 to 84 degrees to get the temperature I desire to 72 to 78 degrees!! Looses comm every once in a while? Loose power and have to reset it all over again. I never loose 12 volt power. One would think if it has 12 to 13.7 dc volts all the time you would not have to reset the thermostat?? Of course made in China China the main problem!! Would like to find an American made thermostat to work with the heater and air conditioner??

I don’t need wi-fi or blue tooth. I will not pay $300.00 to $400.00 dollars for a thermostat!!! That’s outrageous cost. I’m old man with a 1995, 29 foot Hitchhiker II.
