    I’ve been searching the internet for tutorials on replacing a zipper on a leather backpack for about a week now. Your video is the first one that has actually helped me. Your explanation of the process and attention to detail has provided me with the information I need to (hopefully) successfully complete this project. I will be adding your videos to my favorites as well as subscribing to your channel. Thanx for sharing your talent with us!

    Love your videos! You're a great teacher. I just bought my first sewing machine at 52 (weird to say as a man), but it seems like such a practical hobby.

    I used to work in a leather store making stuff. This was perfection! But no surprise because everything you post always is! ;-)

    That was really well done sewing wise and video wise. All was clear and the close- ups were easy to see and follow. Your explanations are detailed and appreciated by sewists like myself. Could you share the machines that you use? I believe they are industrial sewing machines but very modern and quiet. A tour of your studio would be so great. Thanks.

    You could get a high quality flat back side cutter to snip those teeth in half with. That would help you to get those excess teeth off in two little pieces. That would allow you to get them off without messing up the integrity of the ribbon they are pinched onto because you would not be needing to pull them off whole. I am a terminating electrician and I use those things all the time and I thought it might help you to know of them. The ones by Snap-On are very robust and would likely last you a long time but almost any quality tool makers product would do it.

    Question how do you get around a zipper on a leather jacket thats been pre glued. It usually gums up your needles.

  • @morninglaurie

    Do you try to line up needle/stitch length so that needle enters the same holes as original stitching, so that you don’t create a more perforated edge to weaken the leather along the stitching line so it would tear off more easily?

      Yes, we are aiming to put our new stitching through the already perforated needle holes of the previous stitching.

    I have question. A few months ago I replaced a zipper in a sweat jacket. Easy project. Separating zipper. But. The feedback I got was disheartening. I’ve been sewing forever it seems like, but never came across this. I was told I put a “female“ zipper in a man’s jacket. Upon scrutinizing several coats I’ve found my own coats /jackets the pull tabs were on both sides of the jacket. Is this a thing swapping sides? Is there a rule like buttons or a pants fly that the pull should be on a certain side?

    • @sewshowwithshae
      @sewshowwithshae  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, I've never heard of that kind of rule either!

      I’ve also run into this with my husband (and a couple of customers) over the years. He claims there is a male & female side for the zipper pull. After looking at multiple examples I found that all his zipper pulls were on same side. My jackets were a mixed bag. I’ve never found anything addressing this in sewing books or zipper websites but I have not done deep dive research either. If I find anything I’ll repost any info. He passed on a very high end, smooth as butter Riri zip in favor of a YKK on the last jacket I made for him based solely on which side the pull was on, so it’s clearly something some men are fussy about!

      In my experience men’s buttons are usually on the right as well as the zipper pulls. Women’s buttons and zipper pulls are often not always on the left side . I recently heard “Downtown Tailoring” address this in one of her older videos.
      As a man the zipper pull on the left as well as buttons on the left seem unnatural .Look in your closet and you’ll see women’s clothes are mixed but men’s rarely are in my experience. Great video🙂
