Yes please, do it! All XK’s as you know are sacred engines eh? Had my first Mk2 when I was just 23, I’m 74 now, loved working on them then and will/do enjoy watching you and others doing likewise now! Hope it’s a good’en! Cheers from England
"guys, do you want me to build an engine stand and try and start it?" - Easiest question to answer EVER!! OF COURSE!! Very pleased for you Adam - great bargain (even if it needs work)
You got a great deal ! Buy a leak down tester to really determine if that is a healthy engine. If the leak down test results are OK, they put it into your XJ6 which has the bad block. Alternatively you could pull the head from the bad block engine and put it on this $230 one, they drop it into one of your cars, maybe the 3.8 S Type.
I saw a machine shop fixing a block Wich had cracks between the liners. It involved new special liners with a lip on top that then was machined into, each other to make a tight seal. The costs in such a work probably high so might not be cost effective always for all the blocks that have cracks.
A great idea to get it running in a stand Adam! That way you can go through the pre start up checks and set up (compression check, cooling system check, oil pressure, ignition, carbs, valve lash etc.) then fire it up and do post start up checks etc.
Very very interesting Adam. Yes, getting that engine running 'including' all the setup to achieve that, would be 'riveting' footage. From my side of the camera, anything you may deem too miniscule for the channel i for one find completely fascinating You briefly said this new engine may have had a head gasket issue id luv to know more if you know anything of its history - when was it last running etc etc
That would be nice to see the engine you just purchased bench tested, just to make sure you have a good backup engine. Good buy! Not surprised about the SAAB, they are sturdy as can be!
Great buy! Just the oil pan is probably worth that, and in addition you got the carbs out of the deal. Starting it on an engine test stand would be a lot of work to set up, but you could use the setup to run other engines on as well. I would think you would want to set it up for a compression test first though to learn more about the condition before running.
Hi adam , IF it has good compresion I wouldn't rebuild. The date should be on the right side rear at top under head. I wouldn't be concerned with it a searies two .The searies two fixed the cooling prob that the searies one had . Blocks cracking sounds like somthing you have just been lead to beleive. The searies three blockes seem to be the the only ones to be having problems with not enough meat inbetween the bores. U hope you have good luck with this one.
Looks to be from the 1979-1982 era, not the version that went into the series III, and it's definitely not an early series I engine. It's a shame the blank plate on the valve cover doesn't have its Jaguar or Daimler sticker, but I believe you can still buy those from David Manners.
Looks like it was pulled out of a scrapped car to be maybe used for something in the future.... a bit like why you bought it ? Now you can finally try some welding making your engine test rig.....

It's this channel - Jim's Automotive Machine Shop, Inc. & this video - Can This 1968 4.2L Jaguar Block Be Saved?

Yes Adam, rebuild that Jag engine and see if it goes ! Thanks for the videos and I love my Living With A Classic long sleeve Tshirt !

Whether is starts or not, a test stand seems like a good fit for you with your planned projects.
Of course it would be nice to see it start! I hope everything is fine with it, but we never know...
Yes! Great idea. A live stream first start for Boxing Day!
Very good buy...would be nice to get it running
yes...like the Christmas special idea!

Yes would be great to see if fire up a great christmas special for sure all the best donny
That'd be cool if you could test fire the "new" engine and see if it is a good one! Thanks man!
The days when you can buy that lot for washers are numbered I reckon. Great bargain. 👍
I think so too! They are getting rare to find for sale
I also want to see if it starts, make that video please!
What a bargain I’d definitely like to see if it will run up I can’t believe it was so cheap really was a good idea to buy it Adam
That engine looks good 👍

Well doctor, It's up to you to bring it back to life. I am sure you will.
So far so good. Hopefully it turns out to be a nice rebuildable engine. If nothing else you could rebuild it and sell for a profit.

It would be good to see it running Adam 👊👊👍
I’ll try and get it to make some noise at least
I'd stick a 4.0 AJ6 into it 😊
Into what?
@@LivingWithAClassic
Is it for the S-type
I saw some posts on Jaguar forums and a few persons were very happy with an AJ6 into their series 3 XJ.
It’s not for any car. I just thought it was a good deal and that I may have use for it some day
@@LivingWithAClassic
Yes good to have a spare engine definitely
What a deal; I would pay that just for the carbs. Need 3 HD8's by the way if you have spares?
You just can't resist !! Well , you can hardly lose on it Adam . What's the score with the V8 "S"type ? Thanks Adam
Engine should be going in the next couple of days. Just put all the accessories and wiring onto it
Have you got a bore scope Adam .useful tool
Did you actually watch the video ?
yup do it
Want 500oo for mine its complete another 250oo for 4spd
Rebuild it, put it in your S-type!
Put a super charger on it Adam that would be interesting if it’s possible
Would be fun but I don’t think I can afford it sadly
@@LivingWithAClassic if you sold the xj40 you could ?
@@LivingWithAClassic make great content
Start it

Are you have one lol
