The best film I've seen from you guys. Great and eloquent storytelling. Superb job.

    Mr.Walker was a class act.

I think by "privateer" they're referring to the fact that Walker purchased cars from other manufacturers to race. Both McLaren and Braun were works teams, building there own cars.

I understand your point and in that regard Walker is a privateer but McLaren is really the ultimate privateer. He designed, built, and raced his own cars...AND stomped all the established 'big name' brands. That good sir is the mark of a true privateer.

@@michaelslack5269 I mean no disrespect. I think that Bruce McLaren is in the same vein as Colin Chapman in that they were "Garagestas" as Enzo called them. I do believe that Bruce McLaren was in the top 0.0001 % of the "Garagestas". JMHO, not saying that Bruce McLaren was not a Gentleman, but "Privateer" doesn't really fit him.

Age old complaint: "Safety Car's not going fast enough!"

Wouldn’t brawn GP be considered the best privateer team? One year 100% ratio.

How is Bruce McLaren not the greatest privateer?

Don't you know...he made his name in 'American' racing. Didn't (really) do it in the prestigious Formula 1 (nevermind he was a rising star) so it doesn't (really) count...
Of course I'm oozing sarcasm so please excuse me.
I fully agree with your point I remember the old Cam Am Series...good God what wonderful racing, drew 'the best' drivers from around the world and was even faster than F1 . A pox upon roger penske! Totally agree that Bruce McLaren is the ultimate privateer, Champion driver, Champion designer, Champion builder and all from a mom and pop shop out of lil ole New Zealand...need I say more? (lol) sorry for blowing you up smash may you have a wonderful day!

Because McLaren built is own cars to race under his own name as did Brabham.
A privateer is some one who purchased a car from a chassis manufacturer and races that in their own name, either as entrant or driver.
