Unfortunately, the ‘SS UNITED STATES’ has been evicted from Pier 82 In Philadelphia.
A number of options are being considered, including possibly reefing the ship. A far better alternative to scrapping. The ship as a reef, after extensive remediation, would provide marine habitat for decades and decades, in addition to attracting scuba divers.
As a reef attraction, there would be positive economic impact to the area that would also last for decades. Those impacts thru recreational Sportfishing and scuba diving include marinas, restaurants, tackle stores, dive charter operations, hotels, among others.
