Hey Brent & team, Just wanted to say that although I don't personally use Gibraltar products I always watch the Brent's Hang videos. Brent and the video team do a fantastic job putting together entertaining and informative videos about your products & it's awesome to see a company that's really on point with their TH-cam& social media content. Definitely one of the best advertisements and marketing approaches in the drum industry. Keep up the good work&cool videos guys! (of course you will!)
Thanks for the support and the kind words. You really hit the nail on the head. We are trying to be informative in an entertaining fashion. And it's nice to know you think we are achieving that.
So if you use the Universal suspension mount , to mount your rack toms (8,10,12) are you able to mount the drum at an angle or do you have to keep it mounted flat.
No problem at all. I'm blessed to work with companies who also have great teams behind their videos and TH-cam channels, but in the world of drumming it seems a lot of companies are behind on the times and the ability to hone in and use the massive potential of TH-cam and creative/entertaining videos. Just thought I had to say thanks for being one of the few really "hitting the nail on the head" with your content. Brent's got a great personality behind the camera and helps to make it fun.
Hey Brian, A 16 x 16 Catalina Maple floor tom should be alright to convert to a rack tom. You can always flip the drum over and hang it by one of the leg brackets to test and see if it will be ok suspended, before purchasing the mount.
3:50 - So, it swings a bit, but what if you're one of the majority of drummers who aren't using level-mounted toms? I've got an old Tama Rockstar kit with the kick-mounted tom arm and so a 13" tom will need to angle just a little bit to sit right where I have it. I love the low profile to be able to clip mics onto the drum hoop/rim.
You can turn your Pearl floor toms into rack toms, but you will need to use the rims suspension system with the L-arm bracket, unless you want to drill holes in your shell to mount the ‘Pearl style SC-670TB’ bracket.
I made my own 8, 15, 18 and 20 inch hoops and used the factory mounting plate. Now all my drums are off the floor. I also built a set of aluminum hoops to suspend my 24 and 26 inch bass drums nicely supported front and back. No spurs needed. Polished and sandblasted to match Yamaha's texture. Even the mighty heavy first and second-generational mahogany Imperialstars to the lightest vintage Slingerlands and Ludwigs are held firmly. The only pieces on the floor are my bass pedals, cabled hi-hat pedals and a pedal for the cowbell. I've also got my snare drum and popcorn snare in a RIMS mount connected to the rack. Screw the basket. All my rack hardware is Yamaha's first-generation steel HexRack produced in Yamaha's motorcycle production lines. I also bought every first-generation spherical collar tom mount I could find. I have over a hundred of these. I also use Yamaha 800 and 900 series hardware in my photographic studio. I won't buy the cheap Chinese pot-metal junk Gibralter produces. Like DW, they're over-priced for what you get. Any additional tubing I use .10 inch walled stainless and run them through my tube bender. For stainless I use the multi-tooth latest generation Hex-clamps, perfect for round tubing and better than the Gibralter pot-metal junk. I then sandblast stainless to match the Yamaha texture. Perfect and tons cheaper. I own eleven different brands including Sonor, Premier, Gretch, and Yamahas (Maple Custom Absolutes my favorites and Recording Customs) and I can swap a different brand in minutes as all sets are the same size.
16 x 16 floor toms need to be looked at on a case by case basis. In general, a tom that deep is going to weigh more, and give you stability issues by hanging it. However, there are some brands who’s 16 x 16 shells are not heavy and would work with a suspension mount. I would not attempt this with a heavy shell, or you may be disappointed by the drum slipping.
Great products but the memory locks for the tom brackets only fit the 10.5 mm l-rods. The good thing is you can change out the l-rod ball mounts on Gibraltar tom mounts.
1:06 all the to 2:32 is exactly what I need for a 12' rack! I'm ordering a pearl crystal beat but the tom mount system was a total turn off (it looks super bulky) I like my toms mounts to be made for L-rods and then just throw the tom onto a simple tom stand.
Hi. Thanks for this vid. There are no instructions that come with the SC-STL2 nor the SC-USS. I have both here and have been successful in installing the SC-USS to my old Ludwig rocker. But how do you get the SC-STL2 attached to the SC-USS???? TIA. Bob
Hey anyone, today is 6/12/22. ...i have 2 floor toms. 14" and 16". I dont want to suspend them . I bought some slightly taller legs, but i need them 4" higher... i want to put a regular snare stand under them and do away with the 3 leg things. The 14" will fit a snare stand, but i cant find a snare stand for the 16". Any idea on a snare stand that is wider than normal ? Thanx 🎶🎼🎸
welp, how do i buy a 13" 6 lug suspension mount and will it work on thoses big, round pdp lugs? i bought something on ebay but it curves inward so that i crank it enough it will chew into my lugs.
I have a question Brent. I have two bass drum mounted acoustic toms from a Yamaha acoustic kit. I also have a Roland TD20 expanded rack with the Roland electronic drums on it now. Is there a way to mount the two acoustic toms to the Roland rack? I want to use triggers on the acoustic toms & plug into the Roland brain. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Regards, Jeff 🤘🥁
I have a bass drum tom mount that I want to get rid of because I have all my toms on Gibraltar racks, but I don't want the gaping hole. Is there a Gibraltar part that plugs that hole, or even just a cover?
at one point i wanted to mount my 16x16 floor tom as a suspended floor tom, but after i put it next to my 14" suspended floor tom, it sounds perfect where it is. to each their own for sure, but it was starting to look pretty hairy to mount that 16 to the rack. my 14 required 2 memory locks and a super multiclamp..the 16 would require an addition to my rack, somewhere along the lines of a gong drum mount..
For the GTS version the only one that will work w/a snare is the 14”/8 lug. This will only fit on 8 lug snares. If you have a 10 lug snare this will not work. For the USS version this will work w/a snare as long as it's at least 6” deep. The mounting plate for this suspension mount is 6” long. The rubber shell protector needs to be able to rest against the side of the shell. If your snare is not deep enough the shell protector will not rest against the shell & your snare will swing on the mount
How would you suggest mounting an 18" floor tom to a GCS-450C rack? I'm not opposed to drilling holes in my birch drums as long as they can maintain resonance and power.
I feel stupid for asking, but just to get things straight, the thing that the SC-STL3 clamps to and the suspension mount all come with the SC-GTS system, right?
Niels Willemse thanks for your question. We don’t have a particular item designed for this purpose, but we have seen others use the SC-EA100 to separate the roto toms from the original rail. You will need to clamp the EA100 to the threaded rod on the roto tom. I hope this helps.
I am using something like that and i am not happy with it. I thought you might have something in store like the Pearl ISS 1216 so it can be used with more toms than only the roto toms. Thanks for your answer.
What about the holes left if you use your own tom bracket? Obviously you wouldnt want to have the mounting holes just sitting there wide open... I'd assume it would make tuning difficult... any info on that? Edit: I swear maybe that would be the business to get in... I know they make metal plates for bass drums but it seems Tom's have to be done using woodfiller/dowels, or other materials from home depot. One would think that a large hole filler would of been developed for those who cant afford custom drums. So we buy cheaper ones and just upgrade them as best we can.
I have toms that are racked onto the kick. The arm that connects the tom to the kick goes into the tom itself. Is there anyway to change these kind of mounting systems?
Is it possible to mount a 16x16 inch floor tom with one of those rims mounts and not have it move? I feel like that's a lot of weight to have hanging and it would start to creep.
If these works with Yamaha Stage Customs, I'll buy it. I love the sound I get from my customs but I hate the design. Kinda why I'm researching this. I'm doing stealth rack but can't use the tom mount cause of the Yamaha design.
Hello, which mount were you referring to? The GSVMS-KIT stealth rack will not work with a Yamaha kit. However the GSVMS stealth rack without the tom mount and snare basket will work great. You can use your Yamaha arm with the rack
+GibraltarDIY yeah, I have the stealth rack with Tom & snare mount. Would this suspension mount GTS system work with the stage custom which would theoretically allow to worth with the stealth Tom mount?
SORRY, off topic a bit, but I have a specific question regarding Ludwig floor tom legs. I have a Bonzo vistalite re-issue with (I believe) 7, or 7.5mm FT legs. I'd like to either: find memory clamps for these to set the height instead of tape, or if impossible, replace the legs and brackets and upgrade to thicker legs that can use memory clamps for height, (like the ones I'm used to using on my DW floor toms. I haven't measured the FT bracket distance between mounting screws so I can't provide that info yet, but hopefully Brent or someone: any ideas on this? Some people just used automotive hose clamps for floor tom marking; I'd rather have something a bit more 'pro' ;) THANKS!!!
Unfortunately the SC-GTS mounts have been discontinued. However, if you can still find them at a local dealer I would grab them. We are still offering the SC-USS mounts, but it will only work with drums up to 14".
i know this vid is old, but do you make these for the 16" and 18" floor toms ?> so that they can be mounted to a drum rack . cleaning it Completely on the floor . I looked on your website and you dont have these anymore for those size drums ..
Will the SC-USS work with a 6×10 side snare? I know the 10" diameter would work, but it looks like the shell protector may be positioned too low and will not make contact with the shell.
Hi Theodore, Unfortunately not. It will attach to the tension rods just fine, but it isn't deep enough for the rubber support grommet to rest on the shell
Hi Gibraltar!! For the Pearl style tom arms, the SC-700HA, do you offer versions with wing screws on either side, or just the one version with the screw stuck on one side? Is the screw direction reversible? Asking because I want create a tom stand for Pearl style drums using the 9713PM 3-mount platform stand and 2 of the SC-700HA tom arms to make a stand which ends up being cheaper than the Pearl stand and also has 3 mounting holes so I can add my Gibraltar boom cymbal arm.
there are bolts on the inside of the drum. unscrew and the mount should come off easily. but make sure to check the lug spacing size between the two parts. a lot of times drum companies make different size spacing. reference drummaker.com for some spacing info. it might help you with your project. don't drill on your drum unless you absolutely have to.
He says in the video that it can but I don't know dude, seems a little risky. I know that it goes around 4 lugs but I fear that it might put too much stress on those lugs seeing how a 14x16 has some pretty good weight to it. I'd just buy 1 and try it out though, worst that can happen is that it's not sturdy enough and you just return it for a refund.
Hello sir,SC-GTS Suspension System seems to be discontinued, does Gibraltar have a floating mount that will support a 16" diameter floor tom? I have a Mapex Mars 5 pc w/14,16 floor toms and the floor tom legs are too "short" for the height I need, is there another option offered?
Question: If I wanted to mount my 14'' and 16'' floor toms to my rack, would it make sense to attach each drum to two tom rack mounts, or would that break the leg holders on the toms in time because of the weight?
I know a dude who reversed the playing side of his floor toms to make use of the leg lugs, heat re-shaped the textured portion of a sacrificial leg a-la cowbell holder rod to use two of the lugs. got them re-chromed. Looks factory! Perfect on a 14 or 16 inch tom. Make sure you have a backing plate inside of the shell so the lug holds better and won't start a crack. Those toms ain't moving.
depends mainly on the quality of hardware on your floor tom. it's an okay method but not preferred... you will lose some sound by attaching it directly to the rack without an isolation mount but that's going to happen to any drum you attach to the rack simply because the metal will absorb the sound and/or give is some unwanted overtones or rattle.. sometimes my toms are a little too open just because they have isolation mounts.. but it's easier to dampen a drum a little with an isolation mount and let them sing rather than choking them with all the metal on the rack
Just stick some the felt things you put on furniture feet to prevent floor scratches. Stick it where the rubber meets the shell to prevent any road rash to your shell's finish. Easy solution.
Brent, can a Gretsch Catalina maple 16x16 floor tom be converted to a rack tom with GTS, or will I need to use the trick you mentioned in an earlier video (flip drum over and use two of the leg stand mounts with L arms on the rack)?
Unfortunately we do not have another suspension mount option. You could turn the drum upside down and use one of the leg brackets to mount the drum to a tom arm.
Unfortunately we have discontinued the GTS mounting system. If you are able to find a dealer that still has inventory of this item, your snare will need to have either 5 or 6 lugs for this to work. There is the 10”/5 lug or the 10”/6 lug. The USS system is the only other tom suspension system we offer. This mount will not work with a drum that has a 2” depth because the mounting plate has a rubber shell protector at the bottom to prevent the shell from swinging. This particular mount requires a shell with at least a 6-7” depth.
I get the idea of using a mounting plate and the rim to mount For 14" floor time that I like to put up in the air what kind of stand do you use to carry that weight ?
Does anyone know why they've discontinued making the SC-GTS Suspension mount?! I've heard a lot of negative things about the universal mount looking for one with 4 contact points
Jiveness thanks for your comment. The GTS system was discontinued due to low sales. We decided to keep the mount that will work for multiple size drums. Please let us know what issues you have heard about with the USS mount.
Thanks for the question. Our multi clamps will work with any tube diameter from 1/2" to 1-1/8". Your Pearl tom arms will fit perfectly. Here are some model numbers of multi clamp options we have. The finish will depend on the color of clamp that your rack has. SC-GCRMC Standard Multi Clamp (chrome) SC-GCSMC Super Multi Clamp (chrome) SC-GRSMC Standard Multi Clamp (black) SC-GRSSMC Super Multi Clamp (black)

Hey, how many drummers out there want to see a suspension system for a 16" tom?

What would work for an 18inch floor tom?? Id like to have it mounted with the 16!
Hey gibraltar did you guys discontinue the SC-GTS Suspension System? I was looking for it the other day and didn’t find it.
The STL3 will attach to 10.5mm and 12.7mm L rods.

Jake Staffin it’s just the one version. I don’t think it has the ability to reverse the bolt.
Could you use this to mount your snare?
One more, when tuning a head currently on the drum with the mounting installed, do you have to uninstall the mounting system?
how do i take my tom bracket off of my tome and put this on i want to put a yamaha tom bracket on but my type of bracket is attached to the drum
there are bolts on the inside of the drum. unscrew and the mount should come off easily. but make sure to check the lug spacing size between the two parts. a lot of times drum companies make different size spacing. reference drummaker.com for some spacing info. it might help you with your project. don't drill on your drum unless you absolutely have to.
Will the GTS hold 14" X 16" tom, 7-ply maple. You posted an video not recommending for a square 16", just looking for clarification
I believe drummaker.com makes a 14 and 16 suspended floor tom leg system. still on legs but it's isolated so it helps tremendously
If I have a 6 lugs drum what mounting system is good for me by the way I have a PDP M5 drums thanks for the video
Sean Diaz thanks for he comment. Unfortunately we do not offer a suspension mount to work with a 16” tom.
someone asked about an 18" floor tom, & what means do you have for suspending 22" gong toms?
someone makes a gong drum stand and I believe it's rope supported with hooks on the stand. kinda like a condenser mic isolation mount
thanks, brother. i can envision that.
Question:
If I wanted to mount my 14'' and 16'' floor toms to my rack, would it make sense to attach each drum to two tom rack mounts, or would that break the leg holders on the toms in time because of the weight?
Thanks dudes!
it seems like the shell protector will leave a mark on the shell.
It does, utter 💩
it does but to be honest it's better than a broken lug... it's happens to me several times...
Just stick some the felt things you put on furniture feet to prevent floor scratches. Stick it where the rubber meets the shell to prevent any road rash to your shell's finish. Easy solution.
I necessarily need the tom bracket? Or I have an other option to put it?
there are other options but these Gibraltar mounts are really good heavy duty stuff with a n extra small footprint
Brent, can a Gretsch Catalina maple 16x16 floor tom be converted to a rack tom with GTS, or will I need to use the trick you mentioned in an earlier video (flip drum over and use two of the leg stand mounts with L arms on the rack)?
will the GTS 16" suspension mount be sturdy enough to hold a drum onto a tom stand 14" deep?
i have a 16x14 tom that was suspended, I.wound up drilling it and installed legs.. its too heavy ti suspend
+Cody Walker Jr. thanks man yeah I'm gonna leave it on the floor
Glad I could help
Can I use this on my old snare so I can have more mounting options?
Harry Pelling Here is a link with the measurements. www.gibraltarhardware.com/?fa=partsdetail&curcat=2&bnd=11&cid=120&sid=669&pid=1793
Where do you buy the universal suspension mount online?
I have a 16 Inch floor tom I want to mount on my drum rack...but the SC-GTS is discontinued...what would you recommend for me?
Unfortunately we do not have another suspension mount option. You could turn the drum upside down and use one of the leg brackets to mount the drum to a tom arm.
@@GibraltarHardware Is there a risk of damage to the drum or it's hardware if i mount a 16 inch floor tom to my rack with the SC-USS?
@@PipeChoir I don’t think you’ll damage the drum, but it may be difficult to get the mount to fit onto it due to sizing.
What if I wanted to convert my 22" bass drum into a rack Tom?
Throw a 22” kick drum head on a standard Brute™️ garbage can and BAM! U have a ghetto timpani😀
:-)) they were damaged already and headed for the trash! But I think they could make an interesting coffee table or something hmmm...
Hey Brent ,do you make such a suspension for a rototom?
Thanks for the question! I’m sorry, but we don’t make a suspension mount for rototoms
do i need this, in order to attach my tom to a cymbal stand? or it will work just by using the Gibraltar SC-SLRM?
you will need some sort of L rod mount to attach to your cymbal stand. this device only attaches to the tom
What about an 18 Floor Tom? Would that be difficult to suspend?
Greetings! I have the sonor jungle snare drum (10"x2"),Which is the best option for a mount sistem? Thanks!

Since you guys have discounted the GTS, are you guys going to have something for the 14 and 16 floor toms, or is that a no go?
Hey Brent! The SC-GTS 16 /6 has been discontinued....Any suggestions for hanging a 16 inch tom with 6 lugs? Thanks
Same problem, but there is one website that still offers it.
Hi, will pdp Tom bracket work with that plate?
Sian Pii this is designed to industry standard specs. It should work with many different brands of brackets
So with these tips I'll be able to make my Pearl drums into rack toms right
Will these work with Pearl export floor toms?
iTzCloudyyy You will need to check the measurements of your drums. www.gibraltarhardware.com/?fa=partsdetail&curcat=2&bnd=11&cid=120&sid=669&pid=1793
Will the plate work with pdp by dw bracket?
I get the idea of using a mounting plate and the rim to mount For 14" floor time that I like to put up in the air what kind of stand do you use to carry that weight ?
Will these mount on a PDP drum rack or any other type of drum rack?
WereFromUrFace Yes as long as the tom arm will fit the bracket. You will want to measure your tom arm
@@GibraltarHardware I saw that the two points system could bend / distort the hoop because the pressure is not well distributed.
I want to suspend my Tama Swingstar toms... Does it match the GTS mounting plate??
Tama’s Mounting plate is different than ours. Our mount will not match the rest of your drums. However, you can use it to suspend your floor tom.
Will this work for 16"floor Tom's converted to rack Tom's?
a 16 is very difficult to.suspend, you'll need a hell of a stand
Will this work on my pdp cm7 14" floor tom
dude, this is good for the floor tom 16" ? i need one.
Sorry, only designed to work with 8-14 toms.
Where can I buy it in a music store?
I have a question, if I have a pearl drum set with toms that connect to my bass drum how could I connect them to a rack?
Thanks for the question. Our multi clamps will work with any tube diameter from 1/2" to 1-1/8". Your Pearl tom arms will fit perfectly. Here are some model numbers of multi clamp options we have. The finish will depend on the color of clamp that your rack has.
SC-GCRMC Standard Multi Clamp (chrome)
SC-GCSMC Super Multi Clamp (chrome)
SC-GRSMC Standard Multi Clamp (black)
SC-GRSSMC Super Multi Clamp (black)
