    I'd forgotten about 'Florentine Finish' by Hirschberg- read it about thirty years ago in the Alison & Busby crime series, enjoyed it I recall. Agree re 'The Green Man', probably my favourite Kingsley Amis too - incidentally, his 'The Alteration' has the same alt-hist setting as 'Pavane' and even mentions Roberts and PKD in the text. Panther really was one of the great imprints, beautiful books.

      I did not know that about The Alteration, another Keith tie in, wow. Thanks Steve👍

    Jules, Great video and great info on a little known series. I collect all the Chester Himes and they are terrific.

      Thanks Gary. Yes, the Chester Himes in Panther are really great editions. Sadly, I'm missing quite a few but have most in USA paperback 1st.

    You tempted me and I was weak. Went shopping today and bought my first Crime Band novel (van Gulik's "Chinese Bell Murders")

    I have a 1980 reprint of Ray Bradbury's _The Illustrated Man_ with the oblate, although admittedly according to the copyright page it's a reissue of the 1977 edition. So, yeah, looks like it petered out around '77...

      That's a very late entry, possibly the last one. Great book!

      Thanks John. I suspect they have got much scarcer in recent years. Recently snagged the first Consul edition off eBay for £9 which was a decent price.

    Jules, have you ever seen the Van Gulik USA released paperbacks from the 1970’s published by the University Of Chicago Press? Those are quite striking. I remember them really standing out on the Mystery section shelves at the bookstores back then. I was an idiot not to pick them up in my younger days, but to be honest they kind of intimidated me!

    • @JulesBurt
      @JulesBurt  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have seen pictures of them. When I was putting my set together, some of the final books, I think, were only published in those USA editions. Even some of my later Panther editions took a long time to track down.

      @@JulesBurt Jules, where did you get that plastic case that’s housing CRASH? I would like to get one for display purposes.

    • @JulesBurt
      @JulesBurt  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ProfessorEchoMedia it was made as one of three different ones as a prototype from GW Acrylic. They make cases for action figures and I asked him to make some for paperbacks. it never got past the prototypes, sadly. They are great, I'd probably buy about fifty off him🙂
