This worked incredibly well for me! I had several bees circling my deck having drilled 6-8 holes. Within a couple of hours of putting this up, they were gone! It’s the best possible solution I could have hoped for: no killing, no pesticides, no cost, no clean up. Thank you for this knowledge. ❤
Worked for us too! They seemed to have cleared off our whole 3/4 acre lot. I used it in on our front porch and it took care of the ones drilling holes there and also on our shed in the backyard.
Hi catherinechristie4350 ! Well, it has been 1 year since you posted about your experience using this brown paper bag idea to combat carpenter bees. I am wondering how you are doing so far this Spring? Thanks!
I had so many carpenter bees around my deck and home, and I just wanted them to move out, so I came upon this video. At first I made the bags and over the next few days nothing was really happening, I said oh well I guess this isn’t going to work for me and I just left them up and forgot about it, over the next two weeks I noticed the bees were gone. They really did move out, I just can’t believe this worked . I can’t thank you enough, I’m so happy to be able to use my deck without bees swarming over my head. I’m so impressed and grateful for you sharing this info. Thanks again!
I tried your idea a year ago, and I think it worked. The bees were going under my rear steps and drilling their holes. I tried spraying, bee traps, stopping their holes up, but that required me to lay on the ground and do a lot of that, and nothing worked. I put the bag up, and I never see bees going under there. Many thanks for such an awesome solution.
I hung these bags on the corners of my shed, and all the carpenter bees went away. I haven't seen one anywhere near the shed since I put them up. Thanks so much for the tip! No carpenter bees were harmed with this trickery.
Wow wow wow 🤩 It Worked !!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 The neighbor’s tree had a bee’s nest not sure if carpenter bees but after one hour of putting the fake nest they got out and were suspended over the area and then left. We are so happy, you made my day !😃
I found out about the bag trick last year. I was being carried away with the little boogers! I did a smallish bag and put another bag inside of it and nailed it up under my porch. It took about two weeks and there were NO MORE carpenter bees nowhere on my house or property! It had been so bad I couldn't even enjoy the deck off of my bedroom. I have a cedar home and they were all over the place. And btw .... the bag resembles a hornets nest not a wasp.
I just accidentally discovered the perfect answer to Carpenter Bees… Hummingbirds! After 2 years at my house the bees had already done alotta damage. Last year I bought a couple of 2 hummingbird feeders. It was an impulse purchase. I’ve always enjoyed watching the little birds zip around 90 mph 😁 The Carpenter Bees returned early this Spring, but I knew my lil’ buddies would return. After a couple of weeks the birds returned! From day 1 of their return, all Carpenter Bees disappeared!
I’m thinking that this situation is just a matter of timing. I’ve seen hummers tease the carpenter bees but they don’t kill them. Most likely by the time the hummers arrived the bees had already mated and were boring deep in the wood to lay eggs.
@@randygreen007 This is the first year I've gotten the carpenter bee's under the eve of my enclosed porch. The hummingbirds are just starting to come around. The hummingbird feeder is close to the eve hanging from a stand. These bee's are huge. I wonder if I make the bag and hang it there if it will also scare off the hummingbirds which I definitely don't want to do..

At 5:25 in the video, a carpenter bee does a fly-by, as though it is checking out the hornet's nest, and then bugs-out. Great video, and thanks for posting.
Bags are working for me! Thank you so much. Just after I put them up, I patched 4 new holes and have not seen any holes since. The difference between this summer and previous summers is amazing.
@@MandyT444 Hi mandy! I suggest that you pre-treat your holes first, then use a wood filler. I pre-treat with cotton balls soaked with white, distilled vinegar. If you can't stand the smell of vinegar, you can use ethanol. Be certain that you do not see bee activity for 2 weeks at least before you fill those holes in your wood with wood filler, or you will waste your time. And you must remain vigilant. Once the bees learn the location of your tasty wood, the word will spread from one generation to the next, and then the next. So, close examination of all the exposed wood around your home, every spring and late summer, to learn the location of new carpenter bee homes, must now be an annual ritual for you. Good luck.
That's an excellent idea, my wife and I have a huge wasp nest problem, thing ya'll can't leave the fake wasp nest outside because when it rains it will destroy the bag, I do believe they have other ways to make fake wasp nest so that they wont get destroyed by the rain, not saying you're idea isn't good, its a very good idea, you made those nest look real.. 👍
Another way to fill that bag would be with spray foam insulation. Not cheap, but it would make a solid shape that should stay intact even if the paper weathered away. It could be painted with gray paint to mimic the color of a hornets nest
Good idea! And sealing the the bag with a light coat of lacquer as some have suggested may be helpful too. I would also put the gravel or little rocks in a plastic zip lock baggie before placing them inside of the paper bag. Just in case the paper bag started to break apart. Does this bag decoy trick work for wasp or hornets too? It’s a frugal green method that’s worth a try. Thanks again for sharing!🤗
I watched another guys video that showed the bag attempt just like this and he said it not only did not work but even showed carpenter bees fling closely around it. So I just made some cheap and easy to construct bee traps using a block of wood and a jar.
@gregatkinson7276 it takes a couple days for the bees to figure out what's going on. They leave a scent behind, and if they smell it, they try to go back to that area. They now sell paper nests at big box stores that look realistic. I just like this cheap method and it's always worked for me.

I just installed a large pressure treated wood garden fence 6 ft high 14 4X4 post and 24 2X4X10 support boards between them in , lots of wood and within 24 hours i find a boring hole in one of the post from these bees. I tried this , I put one on each side and have not seen one since so far. I did see them fly into the area and then leave. Great idea seems to work , thanks. Jim
Giving this a try with a slight modification. I put a ziplock bag over it and tied it off with zip ties then cut the bag sealer off. This way it is waterproof. I just hung it maybe 30 minutes ago and I am already not seeing any wasps. I am hoping it works for yellow jackets as I just had to destroy a nest that was starting by my garden!

I had this problem until I created a few bee houses in the far corners of my back yard! Creates a home for the bees since they don’t have much space for options. Only thing is it’s better if you have more than one since they are solitary creatures. Amazing native pollinators!

I'm sure it helps but if u wanna know how I got rid of hundreds of holes in my house I just spackled the holes and boom all trapped in the holes and dead or can't get back in the holes ever, didn't look that great in the house but I painted over it , not sure if that's a thing or not but it worked great
Great idea. Thanks for sharing this Sara.
You are so welcome!
Thank you for posting! I'm getting obliterated by them despite multiple recent treatments. I can HEAR them drilling and it's just the worst. I just put out 3 of these in the plastic home depot like baggies stuffed with packing material in hopes that will work like the paper bag.
It's always worked for me! Keep trying! It takes a few days for them to go away because they leave a scent in the holes. Once they give up, you'll be happy with the result 😀
@@TheBigBlueHouseHomestead Today there were almost no bees (only saw 2-3) and it was sunny which is when they like to work - so that's a very good sign! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video!
i have been battling carpenter bees for YEARS here in east texas...put two of these bags up two days ago and i think they are gone....i am totally impressed as i have caulked the holes, sprayed demon and they always came back....is it possible something so simple will work????
Be careful it may just be the placebo effect
Are they still gone?
@@Jim-Mc YES YES YES!!!!!! 13 days later now and i have NOT seen even one....i am stunned......AND i have learned that the carpenter bees buzzing are non stinging males, like mosquitoes only the females sting, so the males see the bags and think it is a hornet/wasp/yellow jacket nest and go away....WHOA!!!!....PLUS hornets/wasps/yellow jackets only build new nests where there is not already one....i think these two bags have gotten rid of carpenter bees, hornets, wasps, and yellow jackets....the only thing i am dealing with now is dirt daubers....is that possible???????.....seems to be the case,,,,,
Thanks! Wish I 'd found this earlier in the season but will definitely try next year!
Thank you for sharing! Nice greenhouse too!
Thanks!
Love the greenhouse
Amazing video!!!!!! Thank you so much!!!! I never want to hurt the bees so I usually leave them alone. I am going to try this! Thanks again! 🐝💛
You're welcome! This just scares them away, and it's not harmful. I prefer it, to the other traps.
Use Dawn dish soap and white vinegar, mix w water in a spray bottle.
@Joyce De Lima
@@MxK589 thanks 😊
@@MxK589 does this kill carpender bees? Or just keep them away?
I had this problem until I created a few bee houses in the far corners of my back yard! Creates a home for the bees since they don’t have much space for options. Only thing is it’s better if you have more than one since they are solitary creatures. Amazing native pollinators!
Thank you. This is an excellent idea. I plan to make one tomorrow morning.
Wow. That's great. I don't want to kill the bees. I did that my first year, but then I noticed them pollinating in my yard. So.... Why kill useful bugs? Thanks for the tip.
This is awesome, no one dies! Thank you!
I will try this today on my deck
Thank you for offering a humane means to relocate these pollinators…
This is going to be a lifesaver for my birds and the wild animals around here hopefully because I have big problem with parasitic wasps. ✌️🌿 I will let you know how it works out I'm off to make this I have all the stuff in my house. Many thanks 🌿
I know this video is over a year old and I love love this idea! Because I have them making holes in my back porch and under my bathroom window. My question is, do you have any idea of having this bag hanging around would affect my hummingbirds?? I don’t wanna scare them off!
It's in the Bag Lady! Thank you so much.
My dads house has cedar siding and after the cedar oil in the wood diminished the bees had a feast and i know he has tried all kinds of methods so i will have to share this one for sure
Thank you so, so much. I just bought a house and these guys have apparently lived here a while. Killing them is NOT what I want them to do. I just want them to relocate from my back porch. I just moved from Florida, and everyone here is just recommending killing them. Jeez. Thank you, thank you. I'll be hitting up the dollar store for lunch bags!
Mercy! I need to try this!.
Thank you. Great voice.
I think it works the same I've heard for other wasps too cuz I kept getting them wasp nests in the same spot and knocking it down all the time till one time I just I hate to say it sprayed it and left it and they never came back at that
Can't wait to try! Thanks for this.
I just keep a badminton racket on my porch. Swatting them is actually quite satisfying and truth be told I'd be a lil upset if they stopped coming around lol
Thanks. Appreciated. I wonder if you spray the bags with Flex-seal or similar if it would withstand rain even better.
I’m wondering the same
I've had a few people suggest that i should seal the bags. They said it works great!
i put motor oil on my wood and that helped but i will try this as well
