Every rust repair I ever seen where people didn't use fiberglass filler over the welds always failed after 1-2 years showing rust bubbles. And when using bondo body filler you have to use a sealer or epoxy primer over any bare metal otherwise it will always rust through. I tend to use more bondo fiberglass filler as the base filler and once close to the needed level then prime the surface and add your body filler I then to thin my stuff with fiberglass resin to make it a lot easier to spread and reduce pinholes.
Yes, is a good point. That said I’ve had pretty good luck with the higher end fillers like Evercoat. Some of them like Bondo are a little more porous and can delaminate and take on water a little bit easier. But that said your approach may be very good and appreciate the feedback. Thanks for checking out the video and thanks for commenting.
I got these from LMC truck which is really great option. There are a few others like browns of two rivers, amd, even jegs and summit have some metal depending upon the project. For trucks though LMC is pretty good. Shipping costs will get you a little bit but I did like the quality of the metal quite a bit. Let me know if any other questions and thanks for checking the channel out.
For the fenders there's a pocket between where the inner and outer fender meet where salt road debris and water are prone to collecting. That can get there from in front of or behind the wheel well or through the stakeholds in the bed. The rocker panels have holes on the inner portion of the inner rocker panel that allow road debris water etc to get into those. Those can be sealed off. Unfortunately no great way to fully seal off the fenders, but rigorous attention to metal coating can be helpful there. Hope that helps let me know if you have any other thoughts or questions
I am glad this popped up, looks like fun little winter project.
It was! Thanks for checking it out
Good doc

What gauge steel is the actual bedsides on a Dodge truck?
Most of them are 20 gauge. Few exceptions like rocker panels 18 gauge
@MotoXr917 Thanks, getting ready to do some hammer dolly and PDR on a bedside next week...
where do you buy the panels!!!???? awesome video!

Water gets in the inner liner because of factory holes !
