you will find that experienced Aboriginal players who have the didgeridoo as part of their traditional culture almost invariably play front-on, rather than on the side of the mouth. i think playing on the side might give a 'better' tone and could be more conducive to playing 'melodies'. however, the didgeridoo is a rhythm instrument and playing from the front gives more control of rhythmic patternings.
i reckon you find it easier to play to the side only because that is the way you started... had you played from the front at the very beginning it might be the case that you might say now that playing on the side is more difficult!
i think the biggest problem in the side or front playing discussion is that a lot of didges sold in the "western hemisphere" have a mouth piece with a diameter of 6 or 8 cm... but other didges only have about 3cm. this makes a difference in practicing i think.. on my didge (3cm. mothpeace) i can play front with cb too, but not on a bamboo didge with 8cm., i cant...
No. I have a normal thin lipped mouth and I learned CB in three days. Persevere, it seems impossible at first. Use a straw and a glass of water. You need to develop the muscle memory.
I thought playing from the side was supposed to be easier for circular breathing, and that only very experienced players could use the front of their mouths and continue playing, I find it almost impossible and think my mouth isn't built for that style of playing

I make and teach didgeridoo, and when it comes down to it, you just play the damn thing, front, side, whatever. Don't get hung up on technique.
