I never liked the term "hair band" since the hair was more a part of the 80's than a specific kind of music... You see variants of that same hair style in all sorts of types of music from the 80's. Synth, pop, rock and metal. In my country you were more or less considered a dork if you had short hair in school during that time.

Im 47 so I grew up during their height! And thanks to my parents, i played music and had music all around me. Bon Jovi was MASSIVE!!! So popular! On MTV and the radio all the time. And just pumping out one good song after another. And they always had fun. It was impossible to not like their talent and their energy. The Go-Go journey, Van Halen since lopper the bangles and Bon Jovi and yes, I was in the audience when they flew and yes, I had hair as long as Bon Jovi and I kind of still have long hair and I still have my ears pierced, you know I was told by somebody when I was young don’t let anybody tell you you shouldn’t listen to that kind of music you shouldn’t wear those clothes you shouldn’t drive that car you shouldn’t eat that food you shouldn’t do anything because of your age just fucking do whatever you want. If it was recorded on film, rather than video, then it's pretty easy to clean up, and even upscale. Unfortunaly, it was (and still is) way more expensive, so not too many bands bothered. A really good example of a *CLEAN* recording on film would be Queen - Live in Montreal - Somebody to Love. It was filmed in (I think) 1981, and the quality is still amazing - Apparently there's an IMAX version in some theatres at the moment
