I looked up what happened to his life after this show and it was actually sad, but eventually it became okay. He became an alcoholic/drug addict in Hollywood while pursuing an acting career. When that didn't happen he returned to Pittsburg and got clean and got married and has kids. He works for a distribution company now.
It made me sad when he said he was embarrassed and felt like a chump for a long time. But I guess he eventually realized nobody had ever said anything bad about him being in the show and came to a peace about all of it. They might have framed the show in a positive way when they realized how kind he was. But it was still a traumatic thing to put someone through. Especially for a sensitive soul like him.
must have been hard. he got known bc he got duped but was a nice guy himself. that popularity doesnt translate with acting skills. some agent probably convinced him to use his popularity that way. too bad it was too soon, he could have been earning money as an influencer with his popularity
Imagine every time you see Kristen Wiig in something, you get to say "I was the 'star' of the show that launched her entire career." And that you damn near gave her a concussion and possibly were the reason she left the show when she did!!
This was a fun rabbit hole to go down with Hassan. I’m not a twitch subscriber but Hassans content and commentary is golden. Thanks for doing the whole show.
Bro this episode was peak ADHD, but I'm happy it all worked out in the end for Matt. Also all the Pittsburgh jokes made me so happy, yes it's true we all wear basketball (and khaki) shorts all year round in 30°F weather 😂
Hearing Matt in the post-show interview, he was a surprisingly insightful person. Even acknowledged perspectives outside of his own in an empathetic way. His drug/alcohol story is sad and of course we all hoped for more but even though he's a horn-dog Matt showed he truly was a good person that was just down his luck a bit.
I hope he does season 2... I binged season 1 and 2 after seeing Hasan watch the first 3 episodes of season 1 and can't wait for his reaction to season 2
As entertaining is the rest of the show was, this ending makes me feel icky for having enjoyed it. So much of it comes off "how do we break it to him without him getting pissed and suing us?" And yes he could have a lawsuit because even though he signed a bunch of papers, but they acted in bad faith as to what he was signing up for.
Wow...that was actually really beautiful in the end. I didn't expect a reality t.v series hit home so hard, but the relatable nature of Matt, mixed with him not knowing it was happening, that made me really happy to see his reaction. He must've been so damned happy and shocked...I really wanna see season 2 and 3 now haha
the stress of hearing they're all actors and he won must have made him violently sick for a week after this, that shit takes a toll on your physical health.
1:27:00 I kinda see what Hasan means to say but the whole point of the show is making Matt think he ISNT the center of attention, even though he actually is, he didn't question it because he just assumed that he was one of many contestants competing for a prize not the center of the show, there really is no reason for him to have thought that the show was actually about gaslighting him lmao
I appreciate Matt's honesty with being salty about "Hutch" winning It definitely shows character to admit your feelings when you're in a secure situation
Awesome show. Honestly great, but wheeeew. If you ever wanted to give someone main character syndrome, this would he it bro lol. He's gonna think the rest of his life is a scripted show hahahaha
While I'd imagine a show like this being a net positive for most people, it must really fuck with your head and exacerbate any trust issues you may have had, or create new ones. Glad he's doing well now.
@@sickandpretty I can’t remember honestly but that sounds right, I stopped watching in the middle of the second season because I couldn’t get into it lol
Yea I don’t know I think I would’ve started swinging once I’ve realized the way they tried to frame it like they did it for me. Also when you consider the whole Bryan best friend angle and he also sexually assaulted you and he’s a writer on the show might beat his ass

Lmao when he started talking about the producers and writers of the show, that was when Ralph realized that they weren't on a TV set, but really Matt's Shoney's
It's crazy to think this guy is just a year younger than me. I remember watching this show back when it aired and my kids were little thinking what a lucky guy he gets to do that. Can't believe that dude lives in Pittsburgh which I've been too several times and isn't far from me. Wonder if he eats Vinny Pies.
I had a Matt moment 52 minutes in when I recognized Chapel Waste standing in front of him. It took getting to the season finale for me to finally have the frame of reference to stand in his shoes.
Honestly would have gone over better if they said the whole point was to show that there is no such thing as a Joe shmoe. That even the "Joe shmoes" of the world are still human beings and they each have their own complex goals and emotions. Nobody is a Joe shmoe everyone is somebody to get to know.. would have seemed like a more wholesome goal and made the show look angled to highlight his personality and originality
Kristen Wiig might have been the one that became the biggest star, but David Hornsby, aka The Hutch, is Rickety Cricket on It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and he married Zoey Deschanel's sister.
"okay, so your entire life has been a lie, but here's 100,000 dollars and a bunch of other shit, just don't think about the first half of this sentence too hard". my god the emotional wiplash. You can see the difference in his demeanor once he's had some time to reflect on all the fucked up things that happened but doesn't want to shit on the life changing amount of money he got. When he says he wants to go home, it breaks my heart. like no doubt you wanna go and be around the real people who actually love you after that shit show.
@@AlKhafajiOne okay so I'm guessing you genuinely lack empathy. Remember that the majority of the cast of The Conqueror died of cancer from filiming in Southwestern Utah because of nuclear testing and that that is where Matt is going.
Not to well actually you but… Well actually it was a minority of the cast that developed cancer (about 41%) and an even smaller number died from it (21%) which is completely and firmly within the margin of error for US adults naturally developing and dying of cancer within their lifetime, not to mention a few of the crew were heavy smokers and drinkers. I’m saying this because myths like this scare people off of nuclear energy which is in my opinion has an important in combatting climate change and the elimination of fossil fuels (of course the tests conducted where for nuclear weapons but the fear of radiation does still affect public support of nuclear energy).
