Great explanation of your experience with Thermalight! I also appreciate your perspective on the expectations for backpacking gear. As someone new to backpacking, I’ve noticed that many people expect their gear (tents, pads, packs, etc.) to be both indestructible and lightweight. You perfectly summarized why it’s important to buy from a company that stands behind their products and offers outstanding customer service.
I had a pop happen on a 3/4 size ultralight circa 2005. A lot of short people love to take it out as a loner pad because the break is near the top and it’s sort of like a built-in pillow.
Happy to hear you've had such great customer service! I have an Uberlite but sadly haven't used it enough to pop it! I just can't sleep comfortably on it (or any pad with those horizontal baffles as it turns out). But when I bought it I certainly recognized that it would be more fragile than other pads given the UL materials. I used an 1/8 in foam pad under it and didn't worry too much though. I'm guessing you are a back sleeper if you sleep that well on it. Wish it worked out better for me but I've kept it as a loaner pad and most seem to sleep just fine on it! And appreciate how little pack space it takes up for sure. Too bad they have stopped making them but as you say hopefully it's to improve quality issues and they will be back.
@lolobeans Yes, mostly a back sleeper. I sleep like a rock. I do turn on my side occasionally. That's when I heard the last one pop. Thanks for your thoughts. Keep Smilin'
Agree, totally with their customer service. Promptly replaced my XLite after a leak from the floppy lateral seam. I think it was two years old with about 30 nights on it. My repair with Tenac. tape is holding well, so now it’s my back up. Would rather have it replaced every so often versus a heavier pad. Every inflatable can and will leak, as you say. Just a matter of time!

A lot of good, and many small companies out there who understand the importance of good customer service. Keep Smilin'
