  • This video is about fixing toys with 3d printing and Tinkercad. Using Tinkdercad, a very easy to use, online program designed for elementary school children, you are able to create new parts for games, toys, and home repairs.
    This video walks you through the steps necessary to create a 3d printed part modeled in an easy to use online-program and demonstrates the techniques by repairing a toy airplane.
    The part is printed in MatterHacker Tough PLA on a Monoprice Ultimate 2 printer. The techniques described work equally well on Creality Printers such as the Ender 3 or Ender 5 and high-end printers such as the Prusa i3 Mk3/s.
    Please leave comments about home repairs you have created on your 3d printer and suggestions for future videos.
    Let's continue to learn together.

    @7:10, "Flat view": love the simplification of "orthogonal". As a math person, I'm fine with orthogonal, but as a math teacher, when communicating to a young, or general audience, simplified language is useful/appropriate. Nice job.

    Thanks to your inspiration, I printed a watch band retainer and saved 35 bucks today as I did not have to purchase a new band. Also, this saved me from having to throw out a watch band that is perfectly good otherwise.

    I have a really old toy that I wanted to repair. I wanted to try 3D printing but It looks like the pieces are going to be a little too complex for thinkercad. Still I feel like I learned something and the friendly and easygoing way you present yourself just made my day a little better! 😃

    Love this video. I like the real world application of 3D printing. It's great printing models and ornaments but for 3D printing to progress it needs a purpose for everyday use like a traditional paper printer.

    Great video as always. I have used Tinkercad quite a bit and wished it had a freehand drawing tool. It is very hard to design everything using the shapes available.

    • @MakeWithTech
      @MakeWithTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I absolutely agree. I understand that Tinkercad is not a parametric tool, but a simple draw a shape and then extruder feature would be great. I doubt we will see it because Autodesk would rather you upgrade to Fusion 360. In fact here is an Autodesk course that has you do the initial modeling in Tinkercad and then refine in Fusion 360.

    Hey Dr. Vax, I am a new subscriber that has recently bought his first 3d printer (an Ender 3) and dived right in with various upgrades and a big model print. This is a great little introduction to TinkerCad but I'm wondering if you have any plans to do some tutorials on Fusion 360. I know there are other Fusion tutorials on TH-cam but you have a great way of explaining things so they make sense.

    • @MakeWithTech
      @MakeWithTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A number of people have asked for a Fusion 360 tutorial. I will start working on one. The key is to figure out a way to create a very easy to understand tutorial since Fusion 360 is a bit complex.

    If the plane is an actual scale model (most of them are) and the part you are replacing is not duplicated on the plane you can download drawings to scale and model from that, maybe import a scan into Inkscape and start off editing a 2d drawing.

    • @MakeWithTech
      @MakeWithTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Possible. But for a toy sounds like a lot of work.

    • @MakeWithTech

      The problem with Fusion 360 is that it is hard to learn for non-technical folks. It is a great product but I need to figure out if it makes sense for my viewers.

  • @chazy10
    @chazy10 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    With fusion 360 you probably will do it in like 5 minutes..

    • @MakeWithTech
      @MakeWithTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are correct. But I cannot teach someone how to use Fusion 360 in 20 minutes. So after days of learning Fusion 360 you will be able to model much faster. If you use cad all of the time I highly recommend Fusion 360. But if you only need it a couple of times a year or even maybe once month Tinkercad is rather remarkable.
