    I did veganuary (mostly whole food plant based but not obsessive) and my LDL dropped 89 points! Fasting blood sugar dropped 6 points. Triglycerides dropped 100 points down into the normal range. The results were so good I am now a vegan for life.

      Me too!
      I never knew much about vegans until I watched the documentary, "Forks Over Knives". While the credits were rolling, I was emptying my fridge of meat, seafood, cheese, milk, sodas, and eggs.
      Weight loss was not my goal, but I lost 20lbs. in the first month. Over the next year, I lost another 105 pounds. That was 9 years ago; I still weigh in at 115lbs.
      Prior to becoming a vegan, I caught at least 3 severe colds yearly. It's been 9 years, I still have NOT had a cold. Nor, did I get covid, although my husband and son did.

      @smartbrianna2 love it! Im not trying to lose weight either, still getting used to the diet, and somehow - maybe because it's the north in the dead of winter-I'm definitely not gaining weight but I haven't lost weight. I cut back on fats- still occasionally use olive oil to fry stuff- but its a max of 1 tablespoon for a big pot of food containing multiple portions- I do eat a quarter of one of those small avacados every day. I have 30 pounds to lose (5'7" and 175). If it doesn't come off this summer, I am going to a nutritionist to see where I need to cut calories. It might be the meat substitutes. Or I may need to increase my veggies and cut back on the brown rice and the seed bread. I'll figure it out. I dont really care all that much as long as the numbers keep going in the right direction. Which they are!!! Also, I want to add something here. Vegans have a reputation of being mean and intolerant of others, and that's pure BS. I've never met a nicer, more helpful bunch of people. When you learn about how you can save the world and your own life at the same time of course you want to spread that message, but I have never seen ANYONE be rude about it, or judge people who are say, vegetarian or whatever. People in this community are vey nice and helpful and provide a lot of great fact based info and resources.

    I hadn't realised how much muscles I had lost... noticed that I couldn't wash my feet without leaning on the shower wall or put my socks on without seating. Was starting to hold the banister rail. I'm not on HRT so could be reasonable to assume more muscles and bone loss due to my age/post menopause. However, I've improved my muscles greatly by going to the gym and doing pilates. Now can stand on one foot without feeling like falling. No chances to protein etc just increased the weight bearing. Walking although great just wasn't enough to keep me strong. Not sure if my bones have improved.

    With so much obsession over protein I would have guessed the obsessed persons would have known multiple friends, relatives, co-workers, associates ... with protein deficiency. Surprise, surprise, none of these persons knows anyone who has suffered from protein deficiency except for an unusual case of anorexia here and there. Do these folks believe that any adult male who does not have the physique of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie Commando is protein deficient? Do they believe the only reason every male is not built like that is due to lack of protein? Hey, I'm merely speculating about the origin of this peculiar and seemingly unfounded commonly held fear of protein deficiency.

    Personally, I think our way of eating animal protein is skewed from when we ate the entire animal. That makes epidemiological studies give a different result now from what it would have given historically.
    One thing that's wrong is that Methionine intake isn't balanced with Glycine,
    We now know that it isn't protein intake which is bad for longevity, but Methionine intake!
    And that that effect disappear with more glycine.
    I.e., we simply get less glycine now than we used to, because we don't eat as much collagen as we used to!
    I pretty much ignore research which doesn't take this into account. And make sure I get enough of collagen and glycine.
    Too little protein, and especially collagen, gave me skin problem, which I cured with hydrolyzed collagen.
    It's my guess that skin problem is a strong indication of bad things happening inside the body!

      @jakubchrobry3701 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      What happens to excess protein depends if you are in a calorie deficit or surplus. Excess protein is converted to glucose. If you're in a surplus, it would be converted to fat. If your not gaining weight, the glucose is used for energy.
      Nimai Delgado is 5' 9", 170 lbs, 5% body fat. Max potential for a natural bodybuilder at his height is around 180 lbs. He's won several competitions and is pro. You'll have to provide the names to whom you are comparing him to. Mr. Olympians are all on steroids. It makes a big difference. He also competes in the Men's Natural Physique category, which focuses on a lean beach body physique.

    • @broddr
      @broddr 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Except for the mercury and other heavy metals in fish. And the ever increasing amount of persistent organic pollutants (POP), including “forever chemicals” being found in fish. If you’re going to eat fish, eat low on the food chain, e.g.: sardines, anchovies, etc.
      And remember that the primary (maybe only) benefit from fish is omega 3 fatty acids. But fish don’t make those, algae do. Fish get their omega 3s by eating plankton or smaller fish. And plankton get their omega 3s from algae. So you can skip all those middle steps that concentrate pollutants at each step and take an algae omega 3 supplement. Those are made from algae grown in purified water, no pollutants.

      “Replacement of 3% energy from animal protein with plant protein was inversely associated with overall mortality (risk decreased 10% in both men and women) and cardiovascular disease mortality (11% lower risk in men and 12% lower risk in women). In particular, the lower overall mortality was attributable primarily to substitution of plant protein for egg protein (24% lower risk in men and 21% lower risk in women) and red meat protein (13% lower risk in men and 15% lower risk in women).”
