What an insane run from T, dude placed 5th with Link in literally one of the most stacked Ultimate tournaments so far. And while I thought he'd be destroyed by Leo, he put on a worthy fight. Why is no one playing Link more at top level seriously ?
I don’t know. Since the games release I’ve said Link was A tier. I have Link as a secondary and he’s by far my favorite character to play. Safe nair, good out of shield options, the remote bomb is a game changer, at 0% he has the strongest Fsmash in the game, he has a good but not great recovery. ( unless you learn the bomb tech) and not to mention he has the master sword 😂 fair kills early, up tilt is an amazing move, he literally has everything you want in a character
@@Thecrimsonchin0 Agree on everything, and most top players seem to think too that Link's easily a high tier. But you barely see him in competitive play that's too bad, I hope players like T are gonna bring back the Link hype a bit.
I feel like once people get really good at optimizing all of Link's tech (like T is for example) he'll be a force to be reckoned with! He definitely has a lot of potential, and he is pretty technical so in the right hands he can be devastating

Really love seeing Link played in ultimate. No one really plays him these days so I often have to go back to old sets like this. T is a treat to watch
I've been watching lately a bunch of crayzgunz on twitch, he's kind of a newer link main I've seen rise as of late. Fun cause the streams are small enough you can play games and what not. But other than that you got sillintor killing it as usual.
But I agree there's mabe like 10 top player links out there.
T has a pretty sick Link and put up a decent fight. Much respect to him and of course Leo for doing what he always does

Great fundamentals (knowing your out of shield options, rarely missing your common opportunities, good spacing) separates the good players from the bad players and covers 90% of the game. But having the extra tools/tech separates the great from the good.
Nair does a lot, but if he only did it without being able to threaten the rest of the toolkit, he'd get bodied.
I mean he switch to Fair on high percentage

T is perhaps the least flashy Link main. That said however, his consistency and fundamentals are absolutely incredible, and probably the best out of all Links in Ultimate.
He's definitely improved a lot since the last time I watched him play, especially seeing him using the bomb more, even if he doesn't bring it out as often as other Links. He really did incredibly against the best player in the world, and stands as a great testament as to the potential and what Link can do in this game.

I know man Link is such an underated character, imo he has the potential to become a top tier but not many people play him, especially since he is REALLY hard to master. But he's got some crazy bomb loop combo's and setup's.

I like how people are suggesting T how to play, hes up there for a reason, because hes obviously doing something different from other Link players.
Yeah they are giving him pointers about arrows and bomb usage... It's like these people have never been to a tourney before and have no idea what it takes to travel and make it all the way to 5th place in a tourney that is stacked as well as this one~
You just cant go for flashy stuff against the best in the world in a match up that is bad for Link, T did as well as he did becuz he stuck to the fundamentals as he always does, he only did what was usually safe moves but this freaking MKleo lul

T reaching winners semis in a S tier tournament is an extraordinary feat.
So proud of “T” but MKleo did great too
Looking back after playing link... It doesnt suffice to simply play as you want.
One must play in a play to maximize the effectiveness of the character.
Namely, link needs to utilize boomerang and not charge in. Control neutral, then pressure. Bomb ledge trap and drops. Rinse and repeat.
T doesn't do that and still manages good results. Imagine if he was being more cheap or "boring". Perhaps so but it'll be more result oriented.
Over a year later and I still come back to watch T. If T can get fifth with such a simple game plan (not shitting on him, I’m a link main and nair is a funny move) just imagine the potential Link has
It has to do more with fundamentals than nair and fair so it’s a lot more complicated than it looks here

Man that last games stock was so beautifully played by Leo. He knew T was desperate to get the kill by what he was throwing and how aggressive he was going in. Leo schmixed T so hard with that tether cancel he took his own stock (or would have put him in a position to lose it)

It is still amazing to me how untapped the potential is with almost every character in this game. I'm sure we have hardly scratched the surface. I dont believe their are any low tier characters in this game for that reason and Link is only going to get better and better as time goes on. Way to go T.
Joseph Franc Yeah. Links bomb is especially versatile but T isn’t using it at all but he’s still doing good with Links severely underrated nair. I think this is an eye opener to what Link can do
@@alfonshedstrom9859 Yeah it is indeed. The bomb set ups are Links biggest strength and T is already keeping up well with Leo even without utilizing them to their fullest. That tells me a lot for sure. Tells me a lot of people are gonna get bopped sleeping on this character
Most characters are fairly balanced but I still feel like Kirby just doesn’t have the tools to be balanced in competitive play
I think low tier as a concept is vague, but there are definitely characters who's kit is just outright better than others. Ie Palutena and Joker.
@@LuxTensyn Only a fair few in my honest opinion. I dont think kanye characters outright BEAT all others with such oppression it's impossible to turn the tables. Only say characters like Kirby and Captain Falcon have a ridiculously unfair task of dealing with say Palutenas nair. But that's pretty much it. This game is really, truly balanced in a way I've never seen a fighting game go before. And we'll only learn more from here

Big Toblerone I agree but the only thing we can truly evaluate is T’s previous matches to see if mkleo truly wasn’t letting him and after seeing all his matches he seems to only play with links sword style and doesn’t seem to bother using arrows or bomb set ups.
He got 5th at one the most stacked tournaments of the year. Maybe, just maybe, there's a reason why he plays Link the way he does.

As a link main I can tell you his frame data really isn’t good but good links and especially T know how to take advantage of Links fast fall ability to make aerials more frequent

@@helpssb2698 Having one amazing move doesn't mean a character has good frame data, Link is too slow on everything else. Which is why he's usually upper middle tier
having one good move can definetley mean you have good frame data. You can use a move as many times as you need. If you think it wouldn't cover many options/only be useful in a handful of situations than you would be wrong. Due to having a 90% fall speed increase when fast falling (majority of the cast has a 60% increase) he is able to mixup the time he falls with a nair. fast fall nair and non fast fall nair are almost entirely different options. Additonally, he can cross up nair, so link has this many options with this one move:
Fast fall nair
non fast fall nair
cross up nair
cross up fast fall nair
if people start challenging him before the move comes out, wavebounce boomerang covers him. Additonally back air has very good frame data.
His moves either have really good frame data, or very large hitboxes. His frame data is fine.
Also i have never seen anyone say link is mid tier except near the start of the game.
I'm getting civil war vibes from this tournament and I'm liking it quite a bit.

Wolf: kills at 80 with back-air and 50 with down-smash at ledge...
I mean when you think about it the numbers don't mean as much as the callouts

Bayo’s up air doesn’t even kill at 140% literally outside of the blast zone lmao
Joker can also kill with back-air at 80 and with Arsene its hitbox size increases and has a big hitbox. Joker even without arsene is better than Sheik and many other characters.

Link is underrated, and T shows why. The Nair and Fair's are such a great zoning tools and T plays a Link completely different than other Link's with projectiles.

Also it really bugs me that T wasn't able to adapt to those joker upairs, he got the jump timing perfectly to avoid it by just a few inches, you can definitely respond with a dair to punish him mid attack since links dair trumps almost everything, could even spike into double dair upB

I just feel like a lot of links shy away from dair bc of the landing lag but it really has a lot of good uses as an areial punishment.
Pretty impressive to see how well T does without using links full toolset tho
In some matchups it's great. I have experienced the Joker matchup though and it's too easy for him (or any fast character) to run to the side and hit you out of it or shark your landing. It's definitely good in certain matchups though.
nair to grab has strict spacing, whereas nair to hero spin is pretty safe guaranteed damage.
@@PinoyYoung that makes a ton of sense, links grab is one of the fastest but has a very short range and the frames it takes to microspace would allow shield

T is phenomenal. One thing, I feel like he could’ve been grabbing more? He had Leo in shield a lot to respect n’air.
Idk joker is so much faster and link isn't going to convert grabs to more damage except at low percent, probably wasnt safe/worth it to throw out grabs.
NotedNuance no option’s ever truly safe if predicted. and I’d say it’s worth it off the merit of Leo having to respect the option and not just camp in shield as much as he was
@@sentientmeat96 by worth it I mean that even if successful it wont turn in to much damage and more likely than working it will get punished. You dont see a lot of grabs in these high level tourneys for ultimate unless the character makes good use of the throw. Meaning either it's a kill move or converts to a combo for damage.

I agree with you that you don’t see it a lot from most of the cast, and that Link would be categorized in that “most”. I do think, as the meta progresses, grabs will become more commonplace. This game is a lot like PM- even having several of the same top tiers- and in the early years of PM grabbing was the least common option in the RPS of neutral.

Yo man T didn't do bad, but I just think it's so unfair that everyone pops off for someone badly wining one stock on MK, while MK is always pulling off reads and crazy stuff and when he pops off I just don't think people give him the reaction he deserves
