Here's what happened: The author had like, 6 really good scenes that they just had to write. And everything else just serves to reach those scenes. It's like a fan fiction, but serialized, animated, and extremely popular.
The show really does make more sense when Yuki is shinji and Yuno is asuka. They’re both Whiny bitches that have something deeply wrong with them (the hospital scene for shinji and using yuno for Yuki) and yuno has the badassery of asuka
@@mlgwolvesmeepeven tho your statement is kinda true I wouldnt really say they are alike, theres a reasoning why shinji is like that since childhood he was shown stuff that he never meant to see and always seen as a failure his entire his life and at the end he losses everything he loves while yuki is a insecure scumkid that is terrifed of everything so they arent really alike the comparing yuno to asuka is like comparing a girl that would do everything for u to a girl that cant let go being a bitch, asuka is just a person that pushes people away and overestimates her ablities and doesn't even want help so shinji>yuki yuno>asuka
Yuno is the only reason people even watched this show. There aren’t that many yandere characters before or since that exemplified the archetype like Yuno Gasai.
I'm glad you said, "There aren't that many" instead of "There aren't any". Because I was just about to bring up the OG of the yandere archetype and then a yandere who actually scares people (despite not killing anyone in the anime she was in) and not only because the anime she was in was rather prophetic for it's time. Pretty sure you know which two I mean. Just in case you don't know, they're Yukako Yamagishi and Anna Nishikinomiya
What's especially odd about this is that you would think Yuno's Japanese VA would have been catapulted into stardom, being given a shitload of roles left and right Nope! Last I checked, she had like 3 roles to her name. Like, she showed up to voice one of the most popular characters of 2012, realized that she had peaked, and just stopped
He didn’t even mention the white haired boy(Akise) literally staring at Yuno dead in the face and then aggressively making out with Yuki which pisses her off so much she decapitates him😭💀
@@cyberpsychgreen Legit, akise(?) is the only well written character there. I legit was rooting for akise and yuki to get together and kill yuno at the end, but no, akise's head just go bye bye.

Haven't even started the video yet but ive got a funny story about Mirai Nikki. Ive tried to watch this show on 3 separate occasions several years apart. Without fail, every time i get to episode 8, i get the most sickening and painful migraine. I have absolutely no clue why. Theres nothing in the episode that would trigger such a physical reaction, but having it happen 3 different times has to be more than a coincidence. This show has actually cursed me, and i dont think i will ever get to finish watching it.
I used to LOVE this show as a young teen and I remember tearing up bc of the music and shit and now I'm completely baffled, shocked by how batshit insane this anime is
What honestly carried me through this show was just how bonkers insane it was. Every episode felt like a fever dream of logic that you were just so curious where it was going.
Bro, I’ve actually never seen the ‘true’ ending of future diary, this whole time I deadass thought that it ended with piddles just sitting in the void depressed for all eternity, and that honestly carried the whole show for me 💀
i mean it technically was the true ending as the alt ending isnt apart of the original season and is an OVA, prolly added it because the OG ending was too depressing considering all the shit that happened up until this point.
@@deseanlothian well, thats not canon tho, the manga ends when yuki becomes god and is left alone in the void, that true ending is just bullshit made by the studio that adapted the anime because they couldnt handle the story ending in such a depressing way.
My only problem with this anime is how, out of the six women that are shown naked, 5 are 14-15 age range, 3 of them were during sex scenes, and two of those sex scenes were non-consensual. I dont judge but damn it seems like the author had a weird fetish or two
This show is a shining example that you don’t need good writing and story that makes sense. You just need to have enough confidence and you’ll bullshit your way into success.
Okay one gripe I have on this take: The amount of notes you get and how detailed they are, are directly linked to how many notes you take on a given day. Yuno and piddles have that many notes because yuno documents everything about piddles and piddles documents everything about himself. So nobody else wouldn't have as many notes as them and to the same detail they have them. So the episode one guy not knowing where they are actually does make sense.
His diary will tell him where his victims are located, as well as how he kills them. But it doesn't tell him very many details aside from that, so it's really only useful in tracking down his prey. When it comes to making the kill happen, he seems to be on his own. He was in fact killed the first time in his attempt to use his diary to pinpoint where they were, though really he probably should have checked before standing out in the open.
Yeah he probably did not expect two highschool kids to off him, as he was seeing himself as the predator. Which is kinda dumb considering he was in a death game to become god. Never underestimate your opponents. Journals have also been shown as unreliable anyway. All the journal holders had the ability to alter the future. So they were more of an help than an actual guide.
Some of it is cultural. Japanese storytelling differs from Western storytelling. It's more about the interaction between characters and a clashing of ideals, and is less concerned with consistent story tone and things like a "hero's journey" in favor of debates taking the form of soliloquies between two opposing figures. It's why there tends to be a discussion going on during a fight so often in anime. It's more about personalities interacting than reaching a narrative end. Western stories tend to be more rigid about tone and having a consistent narrative arc. I don't disagree that Anime has a lot of awful writing though. Even if you consider this cultural difference, there's a ton of just plain bad writing. Though, you could really say the same about western writing as well to be fair. Still, at least some of those who complain about "bad writing" in anime are at least partially due to some degree of culture shock and not understanding how Eastern storytelling differs from Western storytelling.
Mirai Nikki is unironically a fantastic viewing experience. I watched it with my roommate and we debated and discussed the mysteries the whole way through. It's so bad it's perfect
@@edgelord121 tbf, domestic girlfriend is unironically good, right up until that horrendous deus ex machina ending. It went from a dumpster fire you can't look away from, to just a regular dumpster fire, where you can smell and hear the burning raccoons.
I like this show but OH MY GOD…Yukiteru Amano is one of the if not THE most unlikable protagonists I have ever seen in any anime. There is nothing about him that makes him relatable and someone you want to root for. And when the crazy yandere girl is a more entertaining and likable character than your main character, something is very VERY wrong. But Yuki has no personality, no charisma, no intelligence or agility, or even an understandable reason as why he needs to win the game over the majority of the other players. He doesn’t even have any believable romantic chemistry with Yuno. Yuki is supposed to be the one we want to root for over everyone else winning and yet all I wanted the entire show was for Yuki to die. And honestly, it would have improved the show immensely.
You hate protagonists that aren't somehow "cool" because you need to project into or fantasize about him. It's how Levi from AoT is worse than Yuki because he has nothing going for him except how he has a sad little backstory which is shallow and generic compared to Mikasa's. People literally only like Levi because he's a generic badass with a sad backstory, but hate protags like Takemichi or Yuki because they are special badasses and people want to feel like the protagonist whenever they consume media. I guess one's life has to be very mediocre if you care enough about a character in fiction not embodying your fantasies.
Me: Gives multiple reasons I don't like Yuki as a protagonist. You: You don't like he doesn't appeal to your fantasy or is cool. Lol. Okay. Sure Jan. And by the way, you don't need to be cool or have a tragic backstory to be a compelling protagonist. Yeah sometimes it definitely can help but it's not the cardinal rule. But the most important thing is that you can emotionally invest in them and their journey and in the case of Yuki, the story does a very bad job at doing that.
@@sophieamandaleitontoomey9343 Still a better protagonist than Naruto, Luffy, or Ichigo. I don't understand how self-proclaimed critics declare an anime being "bad" because it is "trashy" or "generic". I generally don't like criticizing anime anymore cause it is the most weeaboo thing to do, and I have a life now, but I will say, in MY opinion Future Diary is a decent anime. Yuki is wimpy, sure, but that's the point. He's a mediocre 14 year old teen who wants to live a simple mediocre but happy life. Everything he does is what most 14 year olds would do if forced to fight a battle royal and stuck with a girl who is psycho as his only form of survival (unfortunately the "stuck with a psycho girl" part is no longer true because we are stuck in an age of down-bad teens who can't get some). I personally like Yuki since he isn't a self-insert protag, but more of a "LOL this wimp is YOU" which subconciously pissed people off. Overall, I think this anime is decent, but not amazing like Attack on Titan.
@@thevigilant6884Bro the only person here who thinks they're cooler than they really are is you with your "I'm gonna do the thing I claim I have too much of a life for" nonsense. @@Thund3rDrag0n12 I don't think that... I literally am better than 99 percent of you crybabies. Only people who complain about "wimpy characters" (like Takemichi and Yukiteru), but drool over "badass" characters (like Gojo and Levi) are those who use anime to cope with their shitty/mediocre lives. I literally did not have time to reply to you until now, and did so because it is funny to make fun of you guys.
I kinda liked how Yuki had what may be the most understandable reactions to being a 14-year-old placed into a death game with 12 psychopaths. He kinda made sense. The only thing that would have made more sense is if he asked Deus if he could just non-lethally bow out of the game since he, clearly and understandably so, didn’t seem to want to be there.
I think a portion to Future Diary's success was its release date. It came out during the perfect time for "battle royales." Every middle schooler has read hunger games at that point. To see an anime pit characters to the death in such a manner was appealing.
I like how the girl who murdered children gets to be happily married while the guy who was indecisive and passive is banished to a realm of emptiness and eternal despair 😭
He put himself in a realm of emptiness and despair. And what are you fucking talking about. All the adults were raping and killing teens just so they could be God. That was the point of it. But sure she’s the evil one.
He wasn't "banished" he just had 0 will to create after what he's been through. The punishment is self-imposed because clearly he is still indecisive and passive. And he's gonna stay like that forever. It wasn't a "heaven or hell" scenario.
The reason he's so pathetic is Yuno never allowed him to grow. It's probably him who was the lead in the first world, that's why Yuno is head over heels for him. But then she drugged him to win the game and res him later. Spoiler: It didn't work, and that's the first scene we see in the anime. That's the reason why Yuno does the whole "kill my alternate self and take her place" thing. All this to be with him again. Yes, the execution is lacking but boy is the premise good
@@DaveSmith-cp5kj Almost like the anime itself didn't understand the concept. There being a good concept doesn't mean ANYTHING if the execution is horrid.
@@AzureRoxe was the execution really that bad though? It is strongly hinted that Yuki, when forced to be mature, actually matured in the previous life he and Yuno shared and as such, she fell for him. He showed signs of potential with the darts though, and with the girl who had Yuno held down, and just about any scene where he was forced to mature he did step up. Thus you can believe he was reliable in his other life, and when things changed, he instead became reliant on the girl who compensated instead of letting her partner grow.
The dub actor for Yuki Josh Grelle has an amazing talent to sound absolutely terrified at every moment his voice is perfect for someone who literally doesn't know how to wipe his own ass

I think about Mirai Nikki the same way i think about The Room or YIIK. It tries to tell a complex smart story full of complex themes only to fumble it so fucking hard, but you can't help but admire how earnest the attempt was and how fucking goofy the final product ended up being.
Exactly. It's one of those try hard edgy shows that's wants to be taken seriously but ends up being funny as hell once you turn your brain off. It's basically a 12 year old edgy fanfic
I think you need to point out that the concept of the show is based on the japanese trend back in day to keep a diary on your phone. Since it's your own diary, it is limited to your own inputs so it doesnt always show everything that happens in the future. This will explain some of the plothole points you mentioned. The MC got an advantage because he records everything he does so his diary is extremely detailed compared to others.
@@realshmo yeah the skirt rockets into motorcycle, motion sensor bombs, obliteration of children without remorse, the diary mechanic not making sense or working properly for 85% of the show , the first killer contradicting his diary, the cop being stupid asf and literally everything about the main character definitely falls if u pay attention. @@criticalrevel actually the definition of joke is "a thing that someone says to cause amusement or laughter, especially a story with a funny punchline." My biggest gripe was all the SA. Like some anime pull it off and you feel the impact. But this anime throws it on us TWICE and it's such HORRIFIC scenes both times. I still gag thinking of this anime because of it. The entire anime leaves me feeling disgusted and lacking
Okay, but isn't that the point of SA scenes in media? They aren't really supposed to make you say "wow, what a well pulled off scene", they're supposed to make you feel uncomfortable and horrified. SA in real life is horrific and awful, so why do SA scenes in media need to be 'well done' in order to be impactful? Because it sure isn't 'impactful' in real life.
This anime is the definition of "this is so bad it's actually good?" like there are moments where everything happening on the screen is utterly obnoxious yet you can't help yourself finding it entertaining because it's ridiculous in its own way, and that's where the show truly shines.
Yeah there's a point before rockbottom where its so rediculous its funny and this show Is far beyond it, this was an excruciating experience for me I want to KILL every character on screen, who actually approved this show? Like actually wtf think about how many good shows get turned down and then this garbage makes it out most of the time.
Finished this show the other day. I agree fully. There is some good (not a lot but like Yunos plot twist somewhat imo) and a lot of bad but the bad is really entertaining. This show is the furthest thing from forgettable and I will always have fond memories of it. The good and the bad that is good.

Yuno is crazy in love, but imagine you manage to survive this whole ordeal once before. During the first lap of this royale the things this boy had to do to cause yuno to become like this, he must have taken the weight of all the killing, protected her at all cost and at the dying for her. If everything happened like this it is perfectly reasonable Yuno acts the way she does, she is not just a crazy out of nowhere yandere like every other one you see in anime. And first iteration Yuki must have acted like the chadest of chads. I believe this anime is as popular as it is because it tackles a subject no other anime does. If you met someone willing to sacrifice everything for you, how far would you go and how much would you sacrifice for them in return.
You just summed up the plot of Madoka Magica. Except it doesn't work in Future Diaries. Because Yuki is a carpet. He barely has a will to live. I can't see achieving anything on his own, in any dimension. Whereas Madoka was bright lifeforce, and would have taken the deal if not for the intervention of Homura. She had it in her but was made indecisive specifically through the ripples of her own actions.
@@oneoranota I mean clearly it did work in Future Diary...He wanted everything to just go back to the way it used to be and eventually just went along with it so he COULD go back to that life he so desperately wanted. He also got some stockholm along the way.
Kind of a wild take, but I think the fact that Yukki never really changed throughout the show and never redeemed himself is sort of true to life. You can't expect a character like him to really "grow" anymore than we could expect Yuno to suddenly grow a conscience about killing everyone in her way. We love Yuno for not changing and hate Yukki for not changing, which is interesting.
Major Spoilers: *** The best part is he and Yuno did change, and he became a manly badass with him and Yuno mutually falling in love and becoming a power couple... in the first world... But because of that, Yuno's crazier, is even more Yandere, and loves him even more making her protect, baby, and do everything for him in this world so he just stays a useless little bitch boy for our story instead. The better story is literally just the twist backstory you barely hear about from world 1 that's actually the prolouge for the main story in world 2.

You know one is in trouble when the characters one is probably most likely to like(at least in my kid/teen-memory) are: -A terrorist who blew up how many teens and had fun doing so -A funny superhero-knock off who dies basically right away(though at least there is some epilogue-attention) I remember really liking the anime because the sheer entertainment factor somehow tied the plot together in my head. Kinda like how we eat junk food because it tastes good, even if it is horrendous and may just kill you. Though even me in "brain off"-mode realized that it is the most random thing to suddenly have an episode be "Yuno snapped and kidnapped MC. We gotta save him" or that one time when MC was literally confronted about Yuno being a sham of some kind an hour ago, yet randomly is driving a car on the highway with her in the seat. 20:41 The floating godbaby, lmao. 22:30 That whole arc is just so incredibly hilarious. Bro is essencially ending the world and goes:"Yeah, this is fine."
People watched the show to have stupid entertainment. Hence why the child-killing terrorist, the superhero knockoff, the psycho with the axe and the saw-trap making kid tend to be favourite characters. It's farcically over the top, laughably edgy, stupid as hell and not serious. Hence why any time the show tried playing something "straight" or "subversive", it doesn't work. Oh, now her being obsessed and whatnot is suddenly played straight and as bad and oh so dark? Doesn't work, you never primed us to take it seriously and barely do it again, it just comes over as badly-placed mood whiplash. Same reason why Yuki doesn't work at all as a protagonist. He's a spineless dweeby Shinji-knockoff in a setting that isn't Evangelion. In evangelion, the dark atmosphere, the bleak setting, the realistic characters and brutality of it all are all used to examine how a normal kid thrown into it and to subvert the shounen hero, it makes sense to have a frightened teen act "spinelessly" and "Overwhelmed" there. In Mirai Nikki, every shounen trope is played straight and the show isn't serious at all... except Yuki, who clashes heavily with the show and just isn't entertaining and and annoying in a show where it's supposed to be mindless entertainment. You can't have a "realistic depiction of a 14 year old thrown into a death game" when literally every other character isn't realistically depicted that way, the setting isn't realistic, and the tone is comedic at best. He needed to either have competency to the point of at least not being annoying, or be over-the-top comedically spineless and useless by basically making comedic quips pointing out all the insanity Gintama style.

it's almost impressive just how terribly written yukiteru is. i don't think there's a single moment in future diary where he isn't doing what other people tell him to do. i don't mean he has very little agency. i mean im pretty sure he literally doesn't make his own decisions even once. the only times you'd think he is he's just following the script written either by the diary or by yuno. it's insane.
seems to me that he DOES have agency...in the sense that he makes conscious decisions not to do anything for himself and just let others do the dirty work, which actually makes it worse when you think about it because now he's a wimp AND a sociopath!
If I remember correctly. Even in the last episode he still was a simp. Considering everything that yuno and yuki went through. There was no reason at all for them being together other than being horny. Even at the last episode that at the end he had to wait for yuno to go to him. In the entire show, there was not a moment where yukiteru wanted to do something regardless of what others think of him. The best example of an empty husk of a character.
Actually to this day I really like the plot twist, when Yuno was actually from an alternate dimension and had murdered this universe's Gasai family. I think it was Yuno’s yandere personality that carried the show, and you kind of enjoy Yuki being helpless, like honesty of the whole show was just about that dynamic without the whole battle royale it’d likely be more enjoyable, like a weird edgy romance comedy.
It was both the yandere and the battle royale that carried the show. Yuno 100% popularized the yandere character, but at the time when this show aired, the whole battle royale genre was still pretty fresh and new.

Like with Jojo's a major part of each encounter is trying to figure out what the fuck kinda power the enemy stand user has. But here the fuckers just scream their powers at the top of their lungs.
The same reason people in shonen tell each other how their powers or special moves work. It's not about being plot/story consistent...it's for the audience. It is important to mention that all of the characters assume from the beginning that, as God, they can just undo all their actions and spawn a new timeline. This makes most of the "nonsensical" things you mention actually make sense, such as why Yuki is willing to forgive his father for ending his mother - he plans to undo it all, so in the end, it will never have happened in the first place. Most of the characters directly base their actions around this idea: What I do has no consequences, because I can just erase what I've done.
I feel like this show perfectly represents how bad stories can still be very entertaining. The worst thing any form of media can be is boring, which could still happen even if a it does everything right on a technical level.
Yeah but I would be lying if I hadn’t urge to skip few minutes ahead when watching this for first time but after rewatching this anime I have grown to appreciate what is was trying to show. Mirai Nikki has special place in my heart despite its hiccups.
Honestly this show is a lot better when you accept Yuno is the main character. And yeah I remember wondering wtf was happening a few times as a kid watching it.
@Calliforniaz Same, because "Piddles" is one of the most FRUSTRATING protagonists I have ever seen in an anime... I'm certain Shinji would smack this kid upside the head and tell him to man up.
This anime is one of those that make itself seem "deep" with random mumbo jumbo. Like how I feel with the classroom of the elite series, bunch of convoluted problems and scenarios that get perfectly solved by the plot for the MC
Kinda felt the same with parts in Stone Ocean. Why do all these prison convicts know everything about anything to a molecular level ? Still enjoyed it tho.
Well no Cote honestly has a good story with diverse characters in the light novel, the anime was just made to promote it. And overall, it’s a 4/10 adaptation.
I was 11 years old when I saw pictures of this anime everywhere because it was so popular. In fact, it was so popular I didn’t have to watch it to know the story. People were obsessed with Yuno and I kinda was, too. I was going to watch it but for some reason I didn’t. I’m thanking my little old me for being obsessed with shoujo animes instead😭
One thing I kinda find interesting about the story is what makes each future diary unique. Your notetaking style prior to receiving the device determines what notes you get back to you. Piddles takes notes on random shit so the phone tells him random shit in turn, just nothing about himself cause he's apparently humble like that. Yuno's notetaking is stalkerish, so her phone tells her Piddles' next moves which can help Piddles out when she works with him. Third's phone tells him about people to kill and where the are, just not their actions. With those examples in mind, I figure that if Kira was in the Survival Game, he'd be the Holder of the Vigilante Diary which would tell him the names of criminals to kill while requiring him to find out for himself what they look like.
That's probably more the sentiment among people who still enjoy it today. I'm not big on anime, but my friends were. Around late middle school early high school someone recommended it to me, I immediately loved it for ya know, dumb fun. Other people around me were not thrilled with me saying "I liked it because it was so stupid and insane that it was entertaining as hell." And then I went on the internet hoping to have someone back me up on it, only to get flamed lmao. At the time a lot of people definitely thought this was an intellectual master piece.
"You know how nowadays, every character is an edgelord serial grapist?" You said SO much with this one line. I absolutely despise grape. It's NEVER justified! Not to the main character, and not BY the main character. I find it absolutely astounding how there's just no other way in these detestable anime to take revenge on or hurt a female character. It also shows a SEVERE lack of imagination. She burned down your village: grape She tortured and graped you: grape, then maybe turn her into your girlfriend. Seriously, what grape victim EVER wanted to keep their grapist around after the fact????. I'm looking at you, Redo. Also, with this one. What good did graping Flare do? She'd literally already banged him SO many times! It is literally THE go-to for every situation with a female villain/prisoner/villager these days.
Something occurs to me three months later. Why is Yuno competing at all? She could have waited for the game to start so this reality's Yuno has a diary, killed her, taken the new diary (if it is still functional), and then made sure this reality's Yuki wins. Then she can continue to be a god, he can be a god, and they can rule over a not-destroyed universe.
Right? Also what's the point because they all destroy their worlds after winning so why does the cycle continue? The end, the ova really didn't make sense. Might just be me tho. Also Akise, what happened to him in the end? I think he was in the ova? But didn't he die in the series? Is Deux making himself N a new universe after each game including Akise n that little toddler girl with Deux because I think Yuki had the previous one trapped in his dark remnant of the previous universe/timeline? Years later I still think about it.... 🤔🫠
I'm pretty certain the diary doesn't function after the owner dies, but to the same extent Yuno can still be literally God outside of her own world. Why did she lock away her godhood? Who knows.
One might think that a 14 years old girl who went through the horrors of this game and has her mind broken does not have the cold logic of a 30+ anime weeb thinking about the story for months. But no, every time a character is not making a perfectly reasonable all-knowing choice it must be a plot hole. Also, we don't know which diary old Yuno had, but she specifically wrote a Yuki diary to make the game plus easier.
@@Chraan “But no, every time a character is not making a perfectly reasonable all-knowing choice it must be a plot hole.” Yes, because we see characters with inhuman abilities to gather resources for their schemes make inhumanly dumb decisions. Plothole.

I rewatched it last year and I liked it. Sure, every criticism here is valid, but you dont watch this show for the well written story and character motivation. You watch it because its an interesting premise, has the most iconic yandere ever created and overall its really fun ride.
I think what made it so good to us when we weren't looking with a discerning eye is that the moment to moment writing is very fluent. Like if you have constant amnesia of what happened before, the writing *feels* correct.
@@Crispy1961 I liked it as well. I did like some of the characters as well, Minene, Nishijima, Kurosou, etc. I did think Yuno’s background was interesting, the show has a lot of interesting premises, and if I’m being honest with you.

i remember the joy i felt seeing yuki finally acting like the alpha male i hoped to see him become and how immediately it was taken away from me. the way it was edited here brought me back to those same feelings.
by that point in the show i remember having just completely given up so nothing that happened on screen mattered anymore, i was pretty much watching just because watching yuno do crazy shit was funny and i was like 15 at the time lol. Like, I didn't realize it at the time because i was an unaware kid, but this show is the textbook definition of cringe, like the whole thing, it's literally how i learned what the word truly meant because every episode i just felt this deep embarrassment for the main character and i didn't know what the feeling meant, i just knew i wanted it to stop lol. Also felt it for the other characters as well who were constantly dropping the ball the whole time and making dumb decisions, letting the main cast do whatever they want basically. Nothing made sense, and the part where he became "badass" is actually where i went from "uncaring" to hating the show because it's like "where was THIS the whole time?... ohhh it's a script.. BRUH"

This show was something else. It was my first exposure to "so bad, it's good". I laughed my whole way through it and had a blast. 3/10, highly recommended.
Every important character in this show is absolutely insane. Every single one of them. No exceptions. The only thing that could be argued as a bad plot point that is not explained by mental issues is the fact that the main duo pretty much fights all the other diary owner by sheer coincidence and no one else is eliminated without them getting involved.

I hate how writers write villains and then give them “deep emotional” baggage and a “broken” past just for the sake of story. It would be nice just to see a bad guy be bad for no reason at all or if there is a reason make sure it’s internal struggles not an external source.
@@toxpov3612 Villians can have sad back stories but when every single villain has a sad back story then it becomes repetitive and also expected. “oh this villain is a villain because he stubbed his toe… just like 50 other villians”. Imagine having Yuki's diary. It's really op. Yeah it doesn't give you info on anyone else but when people are after you it's really the best one to have
yeah except not really. We see this first hand, when yukki still got hit by a bomb explosion at the school despite being warned about it ahead of time by his diary. iirc its explained that because yukki is like an observer, so his diary mirrors that and only tells what would happen to the area around or people near but not to himself

@@silvally5464pretty sure there was never any confirmation of exactly what his diary does
His diary will tell him where his victims are located, as well as how he kills them.

This is why Miyazaki lamented the absolute state of modern anime. Bad writing and one dimensional characters.

I think you need to point out that the concept of the show is based on the japanese trend back in day to keep a diary on your phone. Since it's your own diary, it is limited to your own inputs so it doesnt always show everything that happens in the future. This will explain some of the plothole points you mentioned. Kind of a wild take, but I think the fact that Yukki never really changed throughout the show and never redeemed himself is sort of true to life. Well, he seems so disconnected from regular life that this seems plausible. As someone who used to MD, this really isn't far-fetched.
You know one is in trouble when the characters one is probably most likely to like(at least in my kid/teen-memory) are:
-A terrorist who blew up how many teens and had fun doing so
-A funny superhero-knock off who dies basically right away(though at least there is some epilogue-attention)
I remember really liking the anime because the sheer entertainment factor somehow tied the plot together in my head.

For me, this show was so much all over the place that it became boring to watch.
Honestly this show is a lot better when you accept Yuno is the main character. And yeah I remember wondering wtf was happening a few times as a kid watching it.
I had a part of the script where I say it’s really “the yuno show” but I ended up scrapping it
“I fear that if I talk about Piddles I will snap” summarizes my mindset rewatching future diary
@Calliforniaz
Same, because "Piddles" is one of the most FRUSTRATING protagonists I have ever seen in an anime... I'm certain Shinji would smack this kid upside the head and tell him to man up.
@DemonicRemption actually no way you just said that one of the most insufferable and poorly written protagonists would tell this guy to man up
@@uselesswasteofhumanflesh Shinji can be insufferable but definitely not poorly written, he is definitly much less of a wimp though
@UselessWasteOfHumanFlesh Nah, Shinji is a decent Protagonist
@Mecha Jay right, a decent protagonist is someone who whines non stop and sexually assaults girls in comas
The best part of this summary was the persona music for 10 seconds.
And all of them have to have tons of detailed depictions of every kind of abuse you can imagine to make it seem dark.
well with cote the entire point is that the mc perfectly solves them
Well no Cote honestly has a good story with diverse characters in the light novel, the anime was just made to promote it. And overall, it’s a 4/10 adaptation.
@@XCOLEXful hey listen that's Jojo, that's a completely different rabbit hole
I was 11 years old when I saw pictures of this anime everywhere because it was so popular. In fact, it was so popular I didn’t have to watch it to know the story. People were obsessed with Yuno and I kinda was, too. I was going to watch it but for some reason I didn’t. I’m thanking my little old me for being obsessed with shoujo animes instead😭
"I am not using her"
"I am utilizing"
That cracked me up bad.
I think most people do enjoy this one because of how ridiculous it is tbh. That's why I enjoyed it. Everyone was absolutely mental.
The soundtrack is amazing though
This exactly. Just about everything in this video is a good point, but sometimes I want to watch a mindnumbing and fun show
Same here. I don't know why people trash on it. It's not bad entertainment, or a bad anime.
This. It wasn't bad and if someone asks me about what's yandere, then I'll tell them to check this anime or its manga.
From what I remember this show was super entertaining. Yuno was def the best part. She’s so insane that it makes everything fun to watch
@videoplayback wym asians be like?
@videoplayback bro what 💀
@videoplayback ???
@videoplayback_are you smoking
I am SO GLAD I found this channel, your use of humor for almost any situation is absolutely masterful. Every time you post it makes my day.
"You know how nowadays, every character is an edgelord serial grapist?"
You said SO much with this one line.
I absolutely despise grape. It's NEVER justified! Not to the main character, and not BY the main character. I find it absolutely astounding how there's just no other way in these detestable anime to take revenge on or hurt a female character. It also shows a SEVERE lack of imagination.
She burned down your village: grape
She tortured and graped you: grape, then maybe turn her into your girlfriend.
biggest fukin plot hole ever
Plothole.
"I fear that if i talk about piddles i will snap" is a beautiful sentence that i love with all my heart
Same😭😭😭
I remember loving this show when I was like 12, went back to watch it recently and received the rudest awakening. To this day, my mind cannot understand how a single show can be so bad on so many levels.
Damn I watched it when I was about 14 or 15 I’m finna go back and watch it again lol
I only remembered I had watched this when I saw this video. Sitting on your ass doing oxy and watching anime all day for a year was a shameful decision but im glad the pills delete the embarrassment of having to say that I sat through all this garbage completely sober
As someone who's literally never seen or heard of anything relating to this anime, I can confirm that this is one of the greatest videos ever on the internet. My only sadness comes from the fact I will never be able to watch it for the first time ever again.
i remember the joy i felt seeing yuki finally acting like the alpha male i hoped to see him become and how immediately it was taken away from me. the way it was edited here brought me back to those same feelings.
Ong.
@@user153xhzbso8e unrelated but ong fr fr?
by that point in the show i remember having just completely given up so nothing that happened on screen mattered anymore, i was pretty much watching just because watching yuno do crazy shit was funny and i was like 15 at the time lol. BRUH"
@@thekamotodragon It's a relatively accurate depiction of what a teenage boy would react like when thrown into a cat and mouse death game to be god lol what did you expect? A stoic shounen protag that conquers all through the power of optimism and friendship?
@@alexanderorr2528 I think that’s what they’re used to, to be honest. Yuki constantly making excuses for Yuno, and having to suck up to her simply because he relied on her for survival. The weird thing is, I do like the anime, actually. But, it definitely has it’s problems, I don’t think the characters were meant to be good people or people with morals, it was meant to represent a tragedy.
This show was something else. It was my first exposure to "so bad, it's good". I laughed my whole way through it and had a blast. 3/10, highly recommended.
3/10 💀💀
Such a high rating of 3/10 is only because of the female characters
3/10 pleb
Only a pleb wouldn;t realize the greatness that is Yuno Gasai and Mirai Nikki
@@alexanderorr2528 Mirai Nikki is embarrassingly bad. Sucks that such a good song got wasted on the op of a terrible anime.
Iirc they were actually being targeted because their diary combo was too strong which can go some way to explaining it.
@@1001011011010 yeah that sounds right, the boy's diary covers the most ground cuz he records everything, and the girl records what the boy does, so they have the most information
Nah wasn’t that white hair boy kinda cool? I liked him when I watched this as a kid I dunno
The problem is, it’s doing that typical anime thing where the author thinks that “insane = evil mastermind” with absolutely no other explanation.
@@Z0Z33KY He was. But he was also crazy af, in a different way than the rest.
"do you wanna do a tarot reading" had me SCREAMING at my job omg
I remember this anime had gotten some hashtags like “intellectually taxing” and “Another Death Note” back in 2013, but after watched two episodes, I felt “intellectually insulting” may be a more precise tag.
To be fair it's intellectually taxing, just not in a good way
Maybe by “intellectually taxing” they meant it was making them lose brain cells
Not like Death Note was nonsense-free, either.
people would do anything to ignore black lagoon
Intellectually taxing because if you think about it for a second then you're completely exhausted.
I hate how writers write villains and then give them “deep emotional” baggage and a “broken” past just for the sake of story. It would be nice just to see a bad guy be bad for no reason at all or if there is a reason make sure it’s internal struggles not an external source.
Not an anime but lord dominator from wonder over yonder
sympathy for the villain can be great but just a villain who is just fucking cool and evil can be just as good
Then people will complain about a plain, shallow villain. That doesn't work no matter what way you look at it.
Kotomine Kirei from fate stay night is my favorite example of that. Sadly the heavens feel adaptation doesn’t do him justice imo
@@toxpov3612 Villians can have sad back stories but when every single villain has a sad back story then it becomes repetitive and also expected. “oh this villain is a villain because he stubbed his toe… just like 50 other villians”. I think a good example of a balance is joker. Joker fell in acid and went insane. He had a bad backstory but he was an okay guy before falling into the acid.
@@rivershen8954 That's why Yuno is such a perfect match for him. Her diary fills in that gap with perfect precision.
