One of the most amazing moments in human history. I remember that day like it was yesterday. Got home from high school, and watching the McNeil/Lehrer News Hour, and they interrupted the broadcast to show that East Germany opened the East Berlin city to allow people to move freely to West Berlin. That to me was the nail in the coffin that told me communism was on its way out. Incredible.
I was 18 years old and I could not believe it. I watched television all night long. At the end, it was not just, that i could meet some relatives in East Germany easily, it was the change of the world order. This moment I will never forget and I am happy that some guys from overseas see it in the same way. On the other hand, there so many retared guys, who always speak about Nazis. I just wanna tell them explore the world and get open minded. These guys have a huge problem with themselves and their situation. If you ask me, what nation I belong to, i would always say first: "I am European", i would say secondly tell "German" for sure, but is it really necessary to belong to a nation? Nationalism was exactly what the Nazis tried to put in peoples mind.
Why is it that in the 21st century 2014 we can't have uninterrupted conversations with with journalists and broadcasters on the news? yet we had no problem with communications 25yrs ago 1989..
+MultiVinyljunkie Good question. I do certainly appreciate your curiosity. And I am being television producer in domestic channel in India would like to reply you - they will shoot the journalist talk through questioning by telephone calls. After receiving the footage - they will fill with blue chroma shot. Not much live coverage were done international broadcast till 90's era.
Train trip from Hamburg during August 1976 into West Berlin memorable. Disappointed in talented East German personnel used for such inefficient purposes.
I remember watching this unfolding on tv in the US as a freshman in college. Something that seemed forever was falling.
My 3rd grade teacher was German and she cried when the wall came down

In a 1989 TV news studio they had that large interactive virtual screen no worse than what we have today almost 30 years later.
