I made this in my air fryer and it turned out so crispy. Thank You for the recipe!
Awesome! Glad you tried it and liked it!
@@inthekitchenwithmattcan i use olive oil???
@@ArenitaDelMarAzul yup
Boil the thick cut fries after cutting them but the key is to not over boil them until they are soft. u wanna put them in a bowl after straining them cover it with a plate and give it a nice shake.
u wanna rough up the edges of the fries before finishing them in the air fryer . More roughed up edges = more Crispy goodness.
Yep the boil method works great, I show that with my thin crispy potato chip recipe.
How long would you typically let them boil. 4-5 mins roughly?
@@Ianlew1 add a pinch of salt to water and heat it up. Once water starts boiling.Max heat. 3 mins. The key is to use thick cut fries for the boiling method . It is way better and more consistent for thick cuts
@@mak3129 thank ya

Welcome!
Those look Really Tasty , Thank you for sharing.
Thanks! You are welcome!
Air fryer fries are the best. That’s the only way I eat them
Awesome!!
@@inthekitchenwithmattu should have just deep fried them u put oil on them
Deep frying uses so much more oil than I used, which should be obvious.@@chucky3285
@@inthekitchenwithmatt u right I used your method using the least amount of vegetable oil and honestly the fries did taste a lot better without it they are dried pieces of potatoes im trying to lower my cholesterol and saturated fat intake
Yeah just a bit for flavor and it helps create a better texture to the fry. You can certainly leave it off entirely, but the fries just don't turn out as well. To be a bit more healthy you can try a bit of coconut oil or avocado oil, but that small amount of vegetable oil is not bad either. Glad you tried it!@@chucky3285
I just made this as a young cook and my family loved them! ❤
Awesome!
Thanks!

omg so good thank you matt

Good ole French fries!
Yes!
Hi I’m confused with water to use, tap water or filtered water?
Either, but if your tap water tastes gross, use filtered water.
Ok tysm!
@@BroooklynPlayz You are welcome!
im gonna try
Good luck!
Does anyone know the name of this gadget and where I can get it? Thank you!
It is just a french fry cutter. It can be found on Amazon. That particular one is called natural cut french fry cutter. But there are better options available.

How to make them crispy, my fryers always become soggy
My fries*
Try cooking them a bit longer. Also did you follow this exact recipe? You really need to soak them first in cold water, and do the double fry method (low heat, then high heat)
@@inthekitchenwithmatt Tried exact recipe. As you did in video
Cook them longer@@Ak-Crazy-Tech-Official
Hot water or cold water?
Cold water
Nice
Thank you!
You mean toaster oven?
Nope, I mean air fryer. Air fryers are different than toast ovens.
🤤🤤🤤
Thanks so much!
I have that same gadget
Awesome!!
What is the name of the gadget and where can I get it? Thank you!
👍🔥
Thanks!
This is wrong i had kept the same amount of time but got burnt i feel uh must reduce time
It isn't wrong. Everyone's air fryer is different. This is what works for my air fryer. You may need to adjust the length of time in your air fryer. You can also pull the basket out and check how done they are every 2 to 3 minutes. So they don't get burned.
When I use my air fryer I use no oils none at all and all my food come out delicious My french fries my fresh cuts french fries from potatoes everything that's it don't make no sense to have a air fryer you got to use oil.
It is for flavor, you don't have to use oil at all, it is just for flavor, and it turns out way better. And the purpose of the air fryer is so you don't have to deep fry something it isn't to use zero oil at all. A couple of tsp of oil is drastically different than a couple quarts of oil. also why are you watching this video if you already know how to make them? haha
Or u can go to the store and buy French fries 😁😆😂
That can be said with any homemade food!! Why make cookies when you can buy them, why make a cake when you can buy one, etc. That defeats the purpose of making things at home, plus people enjoy cooking.
I mean if u wanna be lazy about it sure
@@inthekitchenwithmatt oh I'm 11 and I have frozen French fries that's why I made that comment

0 seasoning
It has salt. Salt is a seasoning and usually the only seasoning on french fries. Other than that use your imagination and put whatever you want on it.
They’re literally fries bro what do you expect? Do you season your milk before pouring your cereal in? 🤦🏾♂️
bro u never had seasoned fries???

They look dry and burnt
They aren't burnt. And French Fries are supposed to be dry! lol they aren't supposed to be oily and wet.
Does this work for air fryer ovens too?
Yep
@@inthekitchenwithmatt
I tried it and it was great!
Thanks for the recipe!
@@Zhost.Figures Awesome! You are welcome!
Thanks Matt. Will definitely try that in my air fryer.
You are very welcome! :)
Hi Matt, suggestions on best type of potatoes for making fries like this?
Russets if you can find them.
Just got an air fryer yesterday. Trying to eat healthier. If i skip the salt would it be ok if i use garlic powder, pepper and mybe a small amount of paprika?
Yep you can certainly skip the salt :) All those other seasonings will be great.
Whats the difference vs frying in terms of texture, taste, mouth feel?
Deep frying will always taste better in my opinion, but it uses so much more oil and isn't as healthy, but that is probably why they taste better haha. But, the air fryer works great and still produces a nice french fry. You will just have to try it and see for yourself. They still taste like French fries.
yay thank you I’ve trying to make French fries but I have no deep friers
You are very welcome!
I love how he replies to each an every comment ❤
I definitely try to!
So simple and short, just what I was looking for! Thank you!! ❤❤❤❤
Welcome!
I will try this today we have a lot of potatoes,
Let me know how it turns out!
Is it okay to keep the skin on? I heard potato skin is good for you
Yes absolutely you can leave it on!
Is the salt for seasoning purposes? If I want to use other seasonings should I add it to the water or should I just seasonings after drying?
Yes season with salt or anything else right when they come out of the air fryer and while they are drying. The salt in the water is to help remove more starch from the potatoes. But you will want to add more salt after.
Wow thank you so much for keeping it short and simple. Trying this now!
You are welcome!
I usually boil them first, gonna try soaking in salt water this time!
Boiling works great too!
i did this but i was too lazy to skin the potato and i accidentally left them in the fridge overnight instead of 30 minutes are they still ok to eat..? xD
You left them in the water in the fridge overnight? Yes you can drain them, pat them dry and then lightly drizzle them with oil then put them in the air fryer.
Yeah Duh, just drain them !!!
I used this recipe and it turned out so good thanks 🙏
Awesome! You are welcome!
I will try this now and probably turn them black
Good luck!
YUM
Thank you!
Can we boil the potato before air frying it
Yes, but don't boil it too long otherwise it will be too soft and lose its shape. And make sure to dry it after it comes out of the water, before frying it.
Oh my god your a lifesaver now I don’t have to go to McDonald’s all the time😊
Glad the video was helpful!
i tried it it is amazing thank you
Awesome! You are welcome! Glad you tried it.
i noticed that air frying gives it that burned colour i can see why people fry vs air fry but still was a great recipe to try.
Yeah when all is said and done, I prefer deep fry over air fryer, but the air fryer is healthier, and uses way less oil.
Best way to cook fries. However, used frozen fries, they will taste better and look restaurant quality.
I have made french fries every which way over the years, the air fryer is a great way, but the only way to get true restaurant fries is to deep fry them, since that is how it is done in restaurants. The best tasting that I have found is making them this way th-cam.com/video/xe0qzUeWy9Q/w-d-xo.html (very old video) And yes I do freeze them!
Love the way my man explain in this short video ❤️
Thanks!
@@inthekitchenwithmatt sir i tried your recipe half hour ago but at second time frying in air fryer , my fries are burnt 🫥 what is my mistake here ?
Check your heat, and it just means you cooked them too long the second time. The amount of time will vary it is okay to pull out the basket and check how done they are every few minutes. @@sandstorm6862
Do I have to preheat the air fryer?
Nope, I never do with these.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt Thank you so much
@@joaquin6242 Welcome!
What if ur air fryer doesnt have a basket? Like it only has an openable top to put the fries in
Then you will just have to use what you have. You may need to turn them more so they evenly cook
I skipped a lot I just cut them and salt them and air fry them lol
haha, they will taste better if you remove more of the starch from the potato.
Tysm for this recipe I will definitely be going to ur site to cook
You are welcome!
Today I'll cook them for sure, Thank you sir ! Gby
Welcome! Good luck!
My wife bought me an Air fryer but I think I'm gonna stick with my deep fryer when cooking fries.
Try reheating your leftover french fries (if any) from like Mcdonald's etc in the air fryer. They taste really good. So if you aren't making them in your air fryer you can definitely reheat leftovers. It is one of my favorite things to do with the air fryer. Pizza and french fries reheat amazing in the air fryer.
@@inthekitchenwithmattI’ve done that and it tastes amazing😃

Did you order them fries/chips from France r they French no stop with the French fries
NOPE. They are called French Fries here in the States. Period. And many other places in the world.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt even just call them fries 🍟
@@paulmegahy6937 No. When you go to McDonalds, Burger King, any restaurant that sells them, they are called French Fries. That is literally their name here in the States.
Thanks Matt you’re the best!
You are welcome and thank you! :)
Great results. Gotta try this asap👍🏿
Thank you! You are welcome!
Didn’t boil em first
Nope, don't need to, but you can if you want. For this recipe they were soaked, only.
Pro tip: beef tallow instead of oil works best, or clarified butter. (avoid seed oils like Canola, Soybean etc. They are poison)
Lots of oil choices, olive oil, coconut, avocado, and yes beef tallow and clarified butter are great. The good thing about the air fryer is you don't need much oil at all.
No oil into airfryer
wrong. Every air fryer manufacturer says to use a little bit of oil on the food. One for flavor, two, to help the food get crispier. BUT you can still cook food in the air fryer without any oil at all, but it won't taste nearly as good and won't be nearly as crispy.
Where did you get the French fry cuttter
I got it many years ago at Bed Bath and Beyond. There are better versions out there now, you can find them on Amazon.
Could I leave it in the water overnight if I wanted or no?
That may be okay, I have never left it in that long.
Is it okay to not put in fridge? Coz I don't have one.
Yes just use as cold as water as possible.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt Thanks!
U don't have a refrigerator ?!? 😳
Air fryer: I will cook food without oil.
This guy: *add cooking oil*
Air fryer: I ain’t cooking that bro.
Umm you completely miss the point. French fries are DEEP FRIED. With a ton of oil. This uses I tbsp of oil, HUGE difference. It is merely for flavor and crispiness. You don't have to use any oil at all, but they won't taste very good.
Very clear info
Thanks
