Remember my mom bought the first ever color TV (Sanyo) for my whole family to watch this World Cup live then... My family and the neighbors also enjoyed this event live with so many excitements... Still remember names of my favorite players then: Platini, Tigana, Fernandez, Joel Bat ... of French team and especially Vasily Rat, Dasaev, Khidiatulin, Protasov, Oleg Blokhin, Belanov, Kuznetsov, Demiachenko, ... of USSR team ... A time to remember ! 🥰
Brilliant goal from Rats. It looks so special when the ball flies into those classic rectangular box goal nets, with the netting set far back from the goal-line.
@@alsukharsky when they lost the final in 1988, they were missing the best centerback of the tournement due to injury, i don't get his name anymore, big strong ginger bastard with curls and had to play aleynikov at the back. he was no match for van basten. game over.
Soviet Union had an incredible Team in 1986 World Cup and would have probably got the finale if it would not have been stolen by the referee against Belgium in 8th finale.
My two favourite teams at the World Cup Mexico '86, USSR and Denmark. The Soviets should have really won one tournament in the 80's, could have won two. They were a very honest, precise side with ferocious long range shooting, which takes a lot of practise. They were exponents in this artwork from the Dynamo Kiev style of Lobanovky's 'Arithmitic Method'. For me, Mexico was the last classic and enjoyable world cup.
It's the 1st WC game I ever watched. I was just turning 10 I'm French and this was all awesome. That Russian goalkeeper Dassaev was legendary. These Russians were very talented opponents and athletes in general. Platini's freekicks were super close each time and this French midfield was a cool thing to watch ... USSR later lost to Belgium in overtime. The host Mexico shot one of the most fantastic volley ever, but lost in PKs to Germany and to their ''monstro'' goalkeeper Schumacher. France defeated the 1982 winner Italy and the magic Brazil. There were PKs in 3 of 4 of the rounds of 8 ... the other one was the crazy England-Argentina .... that was all epic. France-Brésil was fantastic and we were defeated again by Schumacher right after, like in 1982. But the real treat was Argentina and Maradona. He did very high-level stuffs in one of the most epic WC ever. Among all things he did he kindda avenged the Argentinian honor towards England with his two incredible goals. Bc 4 years before England stroke violently Argentina for the Falklands. I would only discover years later how big and meaningfull that was, esp. w the way he did it. That was perfect and that was way bigger than sport to the Argentinian people at least, but to the world too. Then he delivered another masterpiece and two other goals against Belgium. And cherry on the cake the finale was also dramatic. From 2-0 to 2-2, then 3-2 w Burruchaga in a close game ! It was kindda magic as they say. Playing w our lovely neighbours Italy and Belgium was nice, but it was more tensed w our other neighbour Germany. I remember the adults were way more tensed bc of the 1982 drama and many other things I guess. That was all fun to watch too. All in all this WC really enlightened my childhood starting w this game
1982 and 1986. must of the rest were not so good. it became worth and worth. 1974 was also quite good because of holland and poland. forget the germans. pure boring stuff. as in 1978, 1982, 1986....even in 1990. could never convince me.
Yeah easily 86 were the best World Cup. One could argue that 1970 had some all time classic teams (Brazil, Italy etc), also this was the case with 1982, but Mexico 86 was something truly special. Great sides like USSR and Denmark went out as early as the last 16 (both were good enough as trophy contenders), tough teams like Spain, England, Morocco and Belgium, and the ever fighting West Germans who somehow found a way to the final. Showing real strength in the process. I also want to make a shout out to the Brazilian 1986 side which I believe is highly underrated. They played some spectacular football, perhaps the last World Cup (Mexico ‘86) in which they played ‘futebol arte’ (sorry for spelling).
@@Vladimir-vz8ez Greece in 2004 was a joke. I still don’t believe it wasn’t a setup. I mean they really weren’t that good. France, England, Portugal, Czech Republic, Sweden were all better than them. What a beautiful game. Incredible games in 70s and 80s.
Football as art
That Rats goal was a thing aesthetic beauty.
The French goal was pretty impressive too
The most impressive thing, though, was Platini's freekick that bounced off the post.
I always remember the commentary of, "RATS BEATING BATS"
Dasayev what a goalkeeper!!
One of the best in all times.
Yep
Which makes Van Basten’s goal against USSR in 88 more impressive
The best in the 80s!
Yes but Hagi and Steaua put 5 in his net in 1988!
This is definitely the best soviet team ever beautiful to watch
