I read the wiki and i found out that Ludo is not a bird he is a Kappa. Kappa are Japanese mythical water-dwelling creatures that, by legend, inhabit the ponds, rivers, and lakes of Japan. The word Kappa means "river child" in Japanese.
It was so cool to see Star dip down without her wand bc in the finale of S1 she dipped down but with her wand. Then ludo finding the other half of the wand with stars wand basically being tainted since it shouldn’t be like that.
Poeple theorize that what she did in the finale was actually her first time dipping down. I very much agree. especially how the thing she did in the finale to destroy the glass chamber Marco was in was never explained and brought up ever again, and how this episode with her "first time" dipping down is the first episode of season 2 AFTER the finale where she did something similar? Tsk tsk. I see you showrunners, I SEE YOU.

Fun fact (not a spoiler): Glossaryck was the magic mentor for literally every queen of Mewni before Star's mom! He's as old as... maybe as old as the Diamonds on Steven Universe. (I'd say this is a need-to-know fact, still not a spoiler.)
