It was just like a walk through memory lane and was really got me thinking of how much we went through with these characters
Even though this is a year old, I agree the nostalgia was an adrenaline rush for me. Idk, the song and him looking at it all made the criminals look a bit badass? Tough to explain. Like they're all part of a dangerous and complicated system.
Walt’s ego got him caught. When Hank was talking about the cook being a genius, Walt’s ego got the best of him. He convinced Hank to recheck the evidence and that’s when Hank discovers the clincher that put him on the hunt for Heisenberg.
You're the dumb fuck lol. Hank never would have known about the meaning of the initials "W.W" if Walt hadn't convinced him with his ego that Gale was not the mastermind. And if you recall, those initials are what caused all of this.
The diner when he got drunk and was insinuating that Boticher was only a copyist + the fact he left his dedicated book (maybe he didn't even read the dedicace) within reach of everyone are his two major mistakes, and two caused by his ego/arrogance
@Just different No your the dumb fuck he is right its Walts ego that actually gets him caught, towards the end Walt becomes less cautious and more erratic, becoming the king is some kind of parallel for his failings at grey matter, thats my theory.

Gus certainly didnt trusted Walter,he thought Walter have 3 months more to live so he used him just to get recipe for blue sky, even though it did not work for him because walter wanted to work with Jesse he would not keep him for a much longer.
He went from a façade, an emblem of toxic masculinity into what a real man should be. He died a fuckin legend. Hank's arc made him the real hero/protagonist of the story imo, with Jesse being the victim and Walt being the antagonist.

@Legendary Niwatori; Yes there is, but Eh, Canadian Gamer said; "Seems absurd at first, but then you realize the entire show took place during the time span of a whole year."
My favourite scene of the show is when Hank closes the garage door and says "all along it was you" and then Walter White says the iconic line "yes, Hank, I am Breaking Bad.".
Of course Hank doesn't want to be right on this one. With all his heart, Hank wants something to magically appear that exonerates Walt, but every piece of the puzzle that he puts together does the opposite.
Orbrun ... dude. Walt was probably the fucking last person he wants Heisenberg to be. Imagine that. The best producer of meth in the world was your family, you had dinners together, you spent time in his home and you spent time with his family. For over a year you looked at Heisenberg, yet you didn't notice. What do you think police will do? Pat him and say "Congrats, it took you only a year to notice your own family is running meth empire"?
bullshit. he didnt give walt any chance to explain or give him a deal, he was a complete asshole as usual when he found out and only reason he didnt throw him in jail in 3 seconds is he needed proof
I'm absolutely convinced the only reason Hank doesn't want Walt to be Heisenberg is because he thinks of Walt as a lesser being. It's extremely obvious in almost all their early interactions and it was his narcissism that caused him to not be entertain the notion that Walt was Heisenberg. If Walt is going to be Heisenberg, Hank will have to accept the fact that Walt's a match for him, maybe more, and that would be a blow to his cop pride. Hank is not a good person. He's an arrogant dick convinced that the things the DEA does are good (which would require being morally blind in the first place).
Can we take a moment to appreciate the fact that they didn't have Hank pin all the photos up on the wall, connect them with strings, and label them with sticky notes?
Any detective worth their salt uses that technique, because any case that big has too many strings to visualise the entire web in their head. It's not a TV cliche for no reason, it's a common practice for all law enforcement
I mean it doesn't happen all the time, but in some shows a veteran actor may end up directing some episodes. That mostly happens when they become executive producers. For example, Jon Hamm and John Slattery directed some episodes on Mad Men.
StooGP on the office Toby usually directs some scenes where he doesn’t appear at all. It’s funny because all the characters seem to hate him to the point he becomes a serial killer.
And when we see the Heisenberg sketch against the light, making the drawing itself visible from the blank side of the paper, it means that Hank is looking THROUGH Walt's disguise. Really well put up, Vince G is a genius.
@@johngojcevic8731 the first comment was making fun of people who overanalyze the show, like the ppl who talk about "the moment when walter became Heisenberg" and all that
This is literally Hank trying to put together the story of Breaking Bad over 4 seasons by looking at photos and evidence. Hank was the Walt of detective work.
I mean not really. He had the book from Gale that had gales initials and it even said “the OTHER w.w.” with the same handwriting. At that point a 5 year old could figure it out
Hank was bad at his job. He had Walt dead to rights in season one with the missing chemistry lab materials and didn’t even consider him a possibility. There were glaringly obvious signs pointing to Walt throughout the entire show that Hank just completely whiffed on. Walt all but admitted to being the actual Heisenberg when Hank put it on Gale, otherwise Hank never figures it out.
@@jeremygilbreth8333 He was both great and awful at what he did, just like Walt. He had fantastic expertise, but his pride and ego stood in the way of him fully understanding what he's doing.
How good of a plot twist would it have been if the entire series was shown from Hank's perspective and this is when it was finally revealed that Walt is Heisenberg? Or would it have been too obvious?
Pug Life yes, it would have been an interesting plot twist, but they would have to change the perspective of the entire show. This would make it incredibly boring. Seeing everything from Walt's point of view is what made this show so interesting and entertaining. Truly one of the best tv shows ever created.
It wouldve been obvious. especially considering the internet age. Those sketchings of heisenberg, If the show were to take this approach and have hank be the fpp, the skeychings would have easily been linked to one of the few main charavters in the series.
I find amazing how the series builds up Hank to be this cocky bully while in reality, when you strip down his cockiness, he's a really good cop, and a very smart investigator.
Amazing that Hank spent 5 and a half season looking for Heisenberg, gathering clues and dedicating an insane amount of time researching evidence, continually dedicating time to the case even when it was essentially closed........only to solve it when he was taking a shit and decided he wanted to read something. Also pretty amazing that Walt bent over backwards to make sure there was no evidence of him and nothing that could attach him to the crime or business.......only to so stupidly leave a book out that was gifted to him by a suspect of the case Hank has been working on the entire time AND he knew Hank knew about the W.W. initials.
It wasn't done out of stupidity, but carelessness. Here is the difference between the Heisenberg and Walter White persona one is calm, rational and careful the other side is impulsive and careless these both are the same person, but over the course of the show his Heisenberg persona becomes more and more dominant.
No. I agree with Mike R. Have you ever read stories of serial killers, hackers or other deviants? Or how about a fictional character like The Riddler? Narcissistic personalities leave subtle but impossible to find clues because they want the attention. Meaning, whenever someone does something incredible, even if they don't want to get caught, they will make sure there is some proof, some souvenir, that connects them to it.
The amusing thing is Hank got his current job because his former superior failed to realize Gus was a drug kingpin despite being friends for years. The funny part was that Hank was already way more guilty than Merkert was of mishandling a case. Merkert was specifically dismissed because the ties to Gus Fring were not taken seriously. Hank dropped the ball early in the first season, he had Walt cornered and he completely missed him. When they found the gas mask, they were able to quickly trace it back to Walt's school and confirm 2 gas masks were currently missing in the inventory as well as a significant amount of other equipment. So of course they logically deduced that the equipment was stolen and presumed the thief is connected to the new ultra pure meth and the two missing drug dealers. It's established that only Walt and the Janitor have keys to the lab supplies room. They also agree it's possible a student could have swiped the keys. What they never did was actually consider Walt to be a suspect for even a moment. Here we have this mysterious meth that is purer than any of the DEA have seen before by a large margin. They already confirmed that the gas mask was used in a cook that yielded the exact same meth they found, so the cook was local. The mask was traced back to the school to a room where only of the only people who has access to it is a Nobel peace prize winner chemistry genius whom Hank already knows has cancer and is financially struggling. Nope, nothing suspicious here.
TheIrishEnigma I think Hank probably had some subconscious suspicion that he didn't want to consider. I mean, who would want to even think to accuse their brother in law with lung cancer? But as the series goes on I think Hank secretly considers this to me more of a possibility, which culiminates with the 'Walt Whitman' scene when he goes through all the possibilities of what 'W.W' could stand for. Maybe jokingly at first, but in that moment I think Hank is seriously considering Walt a suspect because of the mounting evidence suggesting someone of his likeness. Hank might not be quick to spot the obvious, but he's not an idiot. Which is why I don't see this realisation as some kind of out-of-the-blue revelation he never saw coming. He probably saw it coming; he just didn't want to admit it to himself.
eiffel0108 Makes sense, that previous conversation with Walt must have stuck with Hank for some reason, subconsciously troubling him. Which would explain why that memory came back to him so quickly when he got his first big clue. (Or at least the first big clue he actually handles properly lol)
+TheIrishEnigma what bout when Hank believe he cracked the Heisenberg code when he suspected Gale to be the one and Walt didn't like someone taking credit for his work (as u said previously) and gave Hank one more hint that lead to Gus being busted/killed
I always felt like Hank was looking for something to prove that Walt was Heisenberg in this scene, but on my latest rewatch I think he was desperately looking for something to prove that it couldn't be him.
@@ronmathewjoe we aren't shown what's written down, but hank probably figured it out due to whatever was in those files and making logical connections. plus there might be more evidence we didnt see, its just condensed down to that short montage so we dont have to see hank literally piece together everything we already know from the past 5 seasons
@@ronmathewjoe Here’s what I think happened based on the order of the pictures shown: Hank so far only had the book and it’s annotation as evidence, he already corroborated that it was most likely gale who wrote the message, so he went looking for more evidence. He knew he was connected to gale, his only lead so far, so he had to be connected to Gus fring as well, so he started looking around that but he couldn’t find anything. Then, he remembered tuco, and pinkman, whom he still believed was connected to tuco’s death. He probably remembered that Walt disappeared just as gonzo’s corpse was found and tuco left his headquarters before they were raided, and pinkman’s car was found at tuco’s desert house. The next lead was tuco’s uncle, who killed Gus fring with a bomb, so he now knew of two possible connections Walt had to Gus (via gale) and tuco (via pinkman) which would connect him to tuco’s uncle and the eventual bomb that killed Gus. Next is the gas mask, which came from Walt’s high school, and that was found just as krazy-8 disappeared and just before blue meth started appearing on the streets. This leads to the next big lead, the methylamine heist. Despite not having any way of knowing it was Walt, hank probably started noticing similarities of movement with Walt and the man from the video, adding to his growing suspicion. And of course, the final lead, the drawing (probably seized from the temple of saint death the twins left it in, or other cartel related property, which would be another direct lead to the Salamanca family, the cartel and fring) who under closed examination, looked eerily similar to Walt. That, added to all the other clues (and stuff like Walt appearing just as badger was going to give them Heisenberg, the phone call just as he was getting to the RV (and pinkman)) probably lead him to the conclusion that Walt was Heisenberg.
@ben marks lol you got hung up on a word, what this dude said is still true, its just not the definition of a montage, but its the equivalent of a montage

I like how it’s obvious Walt is Heisenberg with this evidence (now that Hank has seen the book), and Hank has proven himself to be an excellent detective, so this isn’t a scene of him failing to see the truth. It’s of him seeing it over and over and doing whatever he can to prove it wrong.
1:22 gets me everytime, all the heavy hitters are gone...and hes trying to process it on how mild manner Walt was responsible for all this. Masterful storytelling Love how the first picture he took out was Gus, love that Vince made hank as intelligent as Walt, only on that side of the law

It wasn't his pride that got him. In the show he literally said if he comes forward with the case he wouldn't be able to protect Skylar and the family. He'd also be forced to get off the case and resign as a DEA agent. People seem to forget this small but important detail.

Even watching this series for a second time, it’s still pretty good. You start seeing things that you missed or forgot and it’s a really good refresher.
MetroVerse It would have been possible in a bad soap. If we ever saw everything Hank did we'd suspect Walt was either Heisenberg himself or somebody who works for the meth kingpins.

This is one of the most satisfying scenes in the entire show.. We all wanted Hank to find out eventually. Seeing him go through each case by case solving the puzzle was just so damn satisfying. By far the greatest show television has ever produced
i like how breaking bad is basically a mystery crime drama but the other way around with the criminal being the protagonist and the detective as the antagonist
A protagonist is the lead role, main character that you follow in a story, an antagonist is someone who opposes the protagonist, in this case the protagonist turns into a villain, whilst the antagonist goes from slightly annoying to heroic depending on how you see it
@@bhawnaarora557 thats not how it works, protagonists arent necessarily heroes and antagonists arent necessarily villains. it really comes down to whose perspective the story is being told from, and in this case its walt, making him the protagonist and hank the antagonist, regardless of who is the hero and who is the villain.

@@sl_ipper Yep. Walter was really close to adjusting to the situation, respecting Gus, and then just settling down and cooking. Those dealers killing kids would have led the cops to Gus eventually; they were a security risk. Valuing them over Walter was just stupid.
I love this. Imagine getting a drama bomb like that and realising the mystery that’s been perplexing you for over a year, every day, has been smiling at you over the dinner table the whole time. The man you shed tears for. I don’t know how people root for Walt. He’s an asshole to me from like episode 3. Toxic in personality, arrogant, aloof. He only stopped being the mild family man when he realised he had it in him to do heinous, remarkable things and still sleep at night. The worse the things he did, the more powerful he became as be understood himself a little more with each act. Unfortunately, his ego outgrew his ability. And here we are, a man who’s obsession and tenacity grew along side walt’s power. Except he doesn’t have the weakness of arrogance. He’s working out of partially principle, because he hates criminals, and partly spite and need for vindication. He’s found the monster. Now all that’s left is to trap it and snuff it.
Once you watch the whole show, you realize Walt was an egotistical narcissist from the very first episode and you lose any respect at all for him. In the very first episode Elliot and Gretchen, his old college friends, offer him a good job with great benefits and payments for his cancer treatment. Walt could have swallowed his pride and simply said "Oh, gosh Elliot, that's so kind of you. I don't know what to say... thank you. I accept!" and they all would have lived happily ever after. But nope. Walt's ego couldn't allow anyone else to help he. He had to do it all by himself. All through the show Walt has multiple opportunities to quit while he's ahead. He could have cooked for Gus, taught Gale his recipe, and be set for life, for example. Mike says it himself at the very end. "You just had to blow it up! You and your pride and your ego. You just had to be the man. If you'd have done your job, known your place, we'd all be fine right now!"
@@Rockhard1492To be fair, the reason that things went sour between Walt and Gus was Walt killing those 2 dealers to save Jesse.

Bullshit. Hank could care less about Walt. At this moment he just wants it to be Walt so he can finally catch Heisenberg.
Orbrun ... dude. Walt was probably the fucking last person he wants Heisenberg to be. Imagine that. The best producer of meth in the world was your family, you had dinners together, you spent time in his home and you spent time with his family. For over a year you looked at Heisenberg, yet you didn't notice. What do you think police will do? bullshit. he didnt give walt any chance to explain or give him a deal, he was a complete asshole as usual when he found out and only reason he didnt throw him in jail in 3 seconds is he needed proof
"A chance to explain" lmao

Hank was bad at his job. He had Walt dead to rights in season one with the missing chemistry lab materials and didn’t even consider him a possibility. Hank was this close… THIS CLOSE
Amazing that Hank spent 5 and a half season looking for Heisenberg, gathering clues and dedicating an insane amount of time researching evidence, continually dedicating time to the case even when it was essentially closed........only to solve it when he was taking a shit and decided he wanted to read something.
Also pretty amazing that Walt bent over backwards to make sure there was no evidence of him and nothing that could attach him to the crime or business.......only to so stupidly leave a book out that was gifted to him by a suspect of the case Hank has been working on the entire time AND he knew Hank knew about the W.W. initials.
Yeah that was pretty stupid coming from Walt.
no part of walt wanted to be caught. He just liked all of the power and attention and didn't like it when some loser was getting all of the credit.

Hank, the kind of guy who watches all five seasons of Better Call Saul before realising his actual name is Jimmy McGill.
Walter never won the nobel. They gave him a prize for HIS CONTRIBUTION to the research of the noble prize that gretchen and elliot won.
GTAram855 Yeah except his family knew what was up, they knew he wasn't getting the credit he deserved.
How? Minus the drawing, none of the other evidence points specifically to Walt being Heisenberg.
@@ronmathewjoe
Here’s what I think happened based on the order of the pictures shown:
Hank so far only had the book and it’s annotation as evidence, he already corroborated that it was most likely gale who wrote the message, so he went looking for more evidence.
I like how this is a montage of everything that has happened throughout the series.

i like how breaking bad is basically a mystery crime drama but the other way around with the criminal being the protagonist and the detective as the antagonist
i dont think hank fits the antagonist role though. thats reserved for gus and jacks crew, as they are inherently evil
Walt is the antagonist and hank is the protagonist but the story is told from the antagonist's view
@@bhawnaarora557 Not Exactly, Walt is THE PROTAGONIST of Breaking Bad!! The Protagonist is the one from whose point of view the entire story is based/viewed from..... Similarly, Thanos is the Protagonist is Infinity War(Director said so)
It's simple; we solve the Heisenberg.
Hank decided to try what usually Walt was good at. Analyzing the facts.
this scene is great as a breaking bad fan because its literally hank just pouring through the first few seasons of the show, all the deaths, and angles, and heists, realizing what we now realize. yes HANK YES! ITS WALT!
What was truly amazing for me is how foreshadowing that "you got me" moment was ,with hindsight, regarding the W.W. initials. Amazing because, who in their right mind would have predicted that Hank would have connected back to that W.W. moment and solve his befuddling case about who Heisenberg was while he was taking a shit? God this show was so brilliantly written.
"I did it all for YOU Hank! I knew you would solve it!"
This is definitely one of my favorite montages. The song choice is perfect plus the context for what’s happening is great
The fact that Walt pretty much admits he's Heisenberg multiple times but Hank just laughs it off
After watching Better Call Saul Walter White is much more terrifying than before. In BCS we got an insight in the life of Gustavo and how untouchable he is/was. The fact Walt got rid of him shows what a monster he was and that no one could mess with him.
Tbh watching it all just shows if you wanted gus, just get hector involved, gus’s pride couldn’t let it go
Gus ended up causing his own downfall. If he had avoided one of hundreds of easy mistakes he could of survived.
@@sl_ipper Tyrus even got a bad feeling. He was sitting in the car, going "just let me do it".
@@TheNinja94a he could of respected his cooks more, fired those dealers, etc
@@sl_ipper Yep. Walter was really close to adjusting to the situation, respecting Gus, and then just settling down and cooking. Those dealers killing kids would have led the cops to Gus eventually; they were a security risk. Valuing them over Walter was just stupid.
Hank slowly realizing that there may be an imposter among us
I love this.
That's when Gus realized he was too much of a loose cannon and tried to replace him with Gale and later Jesse. Amusingly, for once Walt's compassion fucked everything up lol. After that, killing Gale and Gus was just self preservation. Somehow Mike forgot that.
@@fascistlobsterexactly. the reason Walt couldn't just do his job and know his place is because he couldn't help but look out for Jesse all the time and then Gus began planning his "disposal"
@@erakattack It was always about control with Walt. He didn't want to be working *for* Gus, he wanted to be working *with* Gus but that situation reminded him of the reality - he was not a partner, he was just the chemist making drugs for the real leader who called the shots.
When he killed those dealers he did it as much for Jesse as for his own ego.
I love how when we watch their perspective through the show, they just look like normal people and friends we know, but, in these pictures, they look like suspects and victims that emanate fear, even though we know them "personally"
