  • Inspiring Journey from Mechanical Engineering to Google Summer of Code 2024
This podcast features an exceptional Mechanical Engineering student, Perminder Singh, from my alma mater, BIT Sindri. 🎓💼
In this episode, we delve into his remarkable journey from taking his first steps in coding to becoming the only student from BIT Sindri selected for Google Summer of Code 2024. 🌟
Despite academic setbacks and initial disappointments in open-source contributions, his resilience shines through. After dedicating 5-6 months to an organization that ultimately wasn’t chosen for GSOC, he didn’t lose heart. Instead, he pivoted, contributing to another organization in the last month and securing his spot in the prestigious program.

In our conversation, we cover a range of topics including:
    1. When did he start coding, and what inspired him to take the first step?
    2. Why did he choose to start contributing to open source, and how has it influenced his approach to coding?
    3. What setbacks did he encounter on his path to Google Summer of Code, and how did he overcome them?
    4. What project will he be working on during Google Summer of Code 2024, and what aspects is he most excited about?
    5. How does he believe that participating in GSoC will affect his career in the tech industry?
    6. How does he plan to balance his college academics with the demands of GSoC over the 12-week period?
    7. What are his plans after GSoC concludes? Does he intend to continue with open source, or focus on DSA?
    8. What advice would he give to students from non-tech backgrounds who wish to transition into software development and start coding?
This podcast is a must-watch for anyone looking to be inspired by a story of persistence, adaptability, and the relentless pursuit of goals. Whether you’re a student, a budding developer, or just someone who appreciates a good comeback story, this episode is for you. 🎧
Tune in to get inspired, learn from his experiences, and understand that setbacks are just setups for greater comebacks!

Thank you sir for explaining every little bit about the open source.
your code for the app crash and blur one is clean and written in glsl language, now I am curious how do learn glsl and how do you come to know about open chemistry.
Moreover the best part, which motivated me was that the company has chosen you over the IIT Madras student whose rank was 5th in jee advance, this make me feel wow 😮 I want to do it !
Thank you sir for sharing your experience and i will be connecting to you for future guidance regarding open source.
Thank you swati mam for making such informative videos.
