I started playing Rocket League about a month after it came out in August 2015. Eventually I discovered then-called JHZER's videos and got super into learning how to freestyle. After a while I joined my first team called Hexicon as a freestyler in around July 2016 and later Pulse in September 2016. My style has changed a bunch over time, nowadays I really enjoy playing mutators along with freestyling with my friends. I'm not huge into competitive but I find that fun as well. Rocket League is a cool game.

I played controller for a week or two, then switched to kbm. I liked kbm, mostly because of the thousands of hours i put into computer games, but i just liked the feeling way better than controller.

I played MKB from Jan 2017 until June 2020. I went from D3 to looking like B1 for a few hours. Probably took 30-40 hours to play as well as normal, with occasional blackout moments on less used controls. My XBox Elite S2 just had problems last week, so I had to readjust over the course of 4-5 hours to get back (I hit Champ 1 before last season ended).
You lose the ability to flip in specific directions other than the basic 8-way, it takes a tick longer to transition to air roll than if you have paddles your fingers always touch them, and there's no throttle, but those losses actually aren't too bad. I also have a keypad with analogue switches (Razer Tartarus Pro V2) which gives throttle to keys, so that really helps.
With the very minor difference in capability, it's definitely nice to know I can play on a laptop with no controller and still kick ass.
There are certain tradeoffs for KBM and controller.
KBM: Your movement is more consistent, but you have less ways to move your car.
Controller: You have more ways to move your car, but it’s easier to mess up your movement since it’s hard to be precise with your movement.
In other words:
KBM = Consistency
Controller = Variety
You can air dribble and reset a fair bit on KBM, search up specific impulse on TH-cam (not me) and you’ll see what you can actually do on keyboard

I play on k&m, my suggestion is boost=shift, jump=F, powerslide=spacebar, camera switch=V, and I think that's all of it
