I watched the original documentary of Philippe Petit. He spent 45 minutes on the wire and made 8 trips from one building to the other. I remember his comment that it was no more dangerous to walk across the towers than it was to walk across a wire at 8 floors off the ground. If you fall, the result will be the same anyway.

    • @scottball2796

This movie took some serious artistic license with the police actions that day.
Not a single cop leaned out to grab him.
They knew any action on their part might cause him to fall. They opted for the safest action and that was to let him finish on his own.

Doing something like this takes courage and Petit really had A LOT of it! He's not the only daredevil to do something big like this involving the Twin Towers. In 1983, Dan Goodwin CLIMBED all the way to the top of the North Tower using suction cups. And in the 1970's, a daredevil jumped off the South Tower with a parachute and in 1990's, another daredevil did the same thing. They all survived uninjured. They were arrested but the owners and people in charge of the towers did not press charges because no damage was done and nobody was hurt and plus it was great publicity for the towers. So they all got off with paying a small fine.

Because no one doesn't want to rewrite history and forget that 9/11 happened, they lost family and friends to the attacks in those buildings as well as America's innocence. I was nine years old when 9/11 happened, didn't remember a thing and didn't know what it was until the 10th anniversary when I finally saw the footage. I've been to the One World Tower which was cool but I wished I had seen the original World Trade Center instead of seeing them being featured in movies. It seemed like life was easy and nothing to worry about. I felt when the towers fell, it left a hole in our hearts even to those who were too young to remember. I had no idea this film existed. I saw the documentary in the theater way back when it came out 20 years ago and was briefly sort of obsessed with the story.
Good casting with Joseph Gordon Levitt as Petit though.

People in big cities so easily become trapped in a mindset where they forget how to dream and be truly human. I worked in an office building in London once where some of the workers would go up on the roof now and then just to have a coffee and a cigarette. There were rails all around the edges so there was no real danger of a accident. The management was so enraged they put a badlock on the door, even though it was a fire escape. They basically hated the idea of people staring at the sky and enjoying the silence so much they'd rather risk a fire disaster.
Stunts like this remind us of how important it is to stop time now and then, and let your soul soar towards the skies.
