Thanks for sharing what you've learned and your plans moving forward. The changing weather patterns have been a challenge these past few years. I have been gardening 10+ years and I need to focus on plants that can tolerate the heat. There is no longer a true spring or winter the temperatures get hot sooner and stay warm longer. This year my peppers are doing well and I agree with what you said about eating right out of the garden. I will definitely be following your lead. Thanks for the inspiration.

Np! 😊 Ten years…that’s awesome! I hope to be able to say the same down the road. And yes, here’s to eating fresh, more. 💚

I am a second year gardener. Spacing has been my biggest issue. Im in Florida so i deal with a lot of snakes. And with the overcrowding in certain areas I am more hesitant to go to that part of the garden due to fear of snakes, which causes me to neglect those specific plants. So I will definitely be changing up the configuration.

I struggle with the same thing…being scared to reach into or walk through densely packed areas and the plants get neglected. It’s definitely another reason I want to stop the overcrowding. Thanks for chiming in! 😊

I really have appreciated all of your good advice.
I am in my third year of growing in raised beds and my second year of planting a fall crop.
I live in Massachusetts. Years ago my husband and I had a lovely vegetable garden, but since then I have only grown flowers.
I have had some success, but mostly failures. I am learning, though, and enjoying! 😊

Great great great chat! I think about all these same things every year and the only thing I seem to stick to is tweaking my grow calendar for our garden. The grow calendar helped me a lot once I found out about it my second season, in 2021 I started really following it and making it work for us. In 2020 I was watching everyone's channel and doing what they were doing and I was messing up bad! Leadfarmer was talking about grow zones and grow calendars. I design my whole garden a season ahead and I always end up with too many plants and I end up over crowding. Every season! I wish I would stick to my plan, but I don't! LOL Just like going to Walmart with a list, and I end up buying way more than what's on my list! 😒😒 Anyway, thanks for the chat! I was planning to do the same chat. I always try to do one at the end of every season. Try to do an evaluation of my garden and my garden skills. I think you are doing a great job! Just keep making your plans and keep trying and keep gardening! Happy gardening my sista!!

I think we go in with our best intentions and when things get busy you wing it and do the best you can. It’s clear to me that you have learned some valuable lessons and have applied them because your garden looks great and has been super productive! So keep doing what you’re doing. 😂😂 at the Walmart list. I think I’ve finally learned that my grocery lists are to make me feel better when I rationalize to myself that I only went over by a few items instead of what could happen without one. 😂 I’ll be looking forward to your video. Tfw Lisa! 💚

Great video, every year I make adjustments. I've found that every year is different and just when I think I have my plan figured out the garden proves me wrong 😂

Thanks! There will always be something, but at least I know what to anticipate in a best-case scenario for some things.

I agree whole heartedly about harvesting. You want to that food from the garden and straight onto the table. I like to go out to my garden and look at what needs harvesting and plan around that for dinner. Preserving and mass harvesting is for weekends when the weather's bad and you can't get outside.
Right now, my garden is a little bit of an experiment. New house, new soil, lots of work to be done to get things put to right. I have a tiny little spot that I'm trying lots of different things in. I'm using the square foot method right now. That's one large plant per square foot of ground for things like tomatoes, mustards, collards... Anything I like that does well I'm saving seeds from for next year.

That sounds exciting to experience your garden in a new space. Congrats on your new home! :) I want to test out the square foot method a little this year as well, along with mono-cropping. Let me know how it works for you. :)

Wise observations! I love that you’re thinking about next year already. I can relate on becoming overwhelmed and neglecting plants/harvests. I just recorded a video mentioning that idea yesterday, but that won’t be published for a bit. I’m still catching up on editing. 😅😹🤦🏽‍♀️
I’m a 10+ year indoor gardener and a 5th year outdoor gardener. I mostly focused on tomatoes, herbs, and flowers. This year I expanded to fruit/nut trees, fruit bushes, other veggies, and permaculture.
Getting ready for new seeds, plants, and methods to garden always seem great at the beginning. Then I realize what I started and suddenly want to escape to the couch with my cats. Finding a good balance for exploration and meeting goals can be challenging but so worth the hard work.
You’ve been really successful and I enjoy finding another gardener who is thoughtful and reflective about their garden. Keep up the amazing work and good luck with your fall garden planning! 💕🌱

Thank you! I appreciate the kind words. It’s all a part of being human. I haven’t started fall planning yet, but soon. You’re doing great with getting your homestead set up quickly. It may be a lot now, but it will absolutely be worth it. I’ll look forward to seeing your reflection video. 😊
