Boy, that isn't how they did ours in Remsen, Iowa. One guy climbed up to the "gangplank" surrounding the tower and, with some sort of torch, started cutting the body of the tower apart, square by square. With each new piece cut away, he'd heft that over the railing and let it fall to the ground, and you should have seen and heard those pieces of metal slice into the ground....WUMP! He wasn't very big, so he must have been really strong. (A 2nd helper stood down below to make sure no one got in the way of the falling slabs of metal.) Hated to see that thing come down...it was like a friend. We lived in the 3rd house from the tower, and so it was a great place to play, including trying to catch the drops of dew in our mouths that would form on the outside of the tank and eventually fall to the ground. It would also overflow sometimes so we had a torrent of water to play in. If not that, it was a good place to play a game of baseball.
